He saw every drop? Obs was on top of the drop in the main for all 3. The only drop he didn't "scout" was the 2 medivac drop onto the 2 colli in the main base.
Other than that every drop Maru tried to do was scouted.

Certainly you can. Coda is good map for turtling Protoss. No dead air space on the edges, you don't need that much observers. If you delay your upgrades a little and save chrono for observers, you are fine and you see every drop miles ahead. Also herO opened with a SG, he could go into phoenix colossi.

No the best protoss in PvT would be Parting, but that's not because of his defence but his overall PvT game sense, knowing when to attack, defend, cheese, all-in, etc.
The protoss with best defence in PvT would be probably Rain.

The only reason why Terran can even play vs Protoss is the ability to drop, it's an assymetrical advantage, but not one which is imba however fucking frustrating it is to deal with goddamn drops

sOs is cheesy... and crazy, while Bbyong is quite crazy himself, craziness is basically sOs's middle name, so sOs counters Bbyong's playstyle by BEING more crazy himself.
Rain just macro's up and let's Bbyong go to his crazy stage and then Bbyong got a better feel of the game.

Well its to hard to scout for protoss. Terrans have scans they can spot with cheap marines and they have their speedvac so they can react to a drop coming. Zerg has creep spread, overlords, overseeers, zerglings to spot and mutas to kill the drops. Protoss can only really use the observers where you neeed to build cloususes from the same building and Phonixes kill medivacs so slowly that hero makes voidrays instead of them and that didnt even work as you could see, Only mass phoenix styles can deal with the drops okayish but i don't see any koreans do these and make them work...

Hallucinations and observers are good, as are Blink pokes. Tons of Protoss players play styles designed to repel drops in PvT and these usually involve splitting your army in two between nat and third. Protoss wins a lot in late game and are often able to defend, just as Terran is often able to win through drops and whatnot. It's not a problem at all.

Yes they are annoying but without drops the game is unplaybale because P turtles till storm/colossi and 20+ warpgates and gets a 60+% winrate. Go watch some recent Zest PvT games. I feel that this is a stupid "way" to balance the game because Terran has such powerful drop potential because they can never head-on fight a Protoss late game army as long as the Protoss doesn't fuck up. Even with nukes Maru couldn't do it.
On paper it looks balanced because Terran has sort of "counter play" against protoss late game army, but its frustrating for both races, Protoss because the drops are so powerful and for Terran its because they can never fight against a protoss late game army.

Hallucinations and observers are good, as are Blink pokes. Tons of Protoss players play styles designed to repel drops in PvT and these usually involve splitting your army in two between nat and third. Protoss wins a lot in late game and are often able to defend, just as Terran is often able to win through drops and whatnot. It's not a problem at all.
Hero splited his army into 2 groups didn't spot 2 medivac that were coming to his main and lost. For me it seems like you have to get lucky when defending drops, hero didn't make any big mistakes and one unspotted drop ended the game.

They can fight it, depending on composition and timing and positioning. See the SCV pull for example, which relies on the timing window just before storm with only three colossus. A heavy viking count which gets one free volley on a heavy colossus army can roll it as well. But yes, the game overall relies on Terran doing mid-game damage in order to either win or to gain an immense advantage until they can straight-up destroy Protoss.

Drops are insanely strong on maps like Whirlwind or Catallena. On maps where 5 observers covers every access path from the air for 3 bases they are not. Also you can place cheap pylons or zealots. On 3 bases you can use even probes, Protoss is about gas anyway
herO used a hallucination for his "middle" spot and it fade out when the drop happened. He should have noticed some medevacs are missing or he should have an observer there, or at least have a pylon on his edge of main so he could have seen that drop few seconds earlier(I don't think it would help that much though).
Drops are fast and strong, but they are not that strong against P. Against Maru I would dare to say that go for 1/1 from 1 forge and go stupidly rushed storm(splash doesn't ask about upgrade deficit) or go more blink stalkers or double robo(so you can have those observers and colossi at the same time). You have to survive mid game.

They have a larger stake in the game anyway, so it makes sense then if they do balance whine a lot. At lower levels it doesn't matter so much, only to your ego if you think you lost a game because of imba drops

at least the way I've gotten it, and I might be wrong, you only use pylons and probes when you haven't gone a generally standard build. That is, defensive Blink into Coloss, Coloss into Blink and so on. Builds which are more gas heavy or offer less time to build obs due to an SG or Dark Shrine or heavy Blink pressure eats up the gas so you rush to coloss without more than like one obs or so.

After the very successful defense of the beginning, Classic was 10 probes up but Maru had the bigger income and defending the third base seems very difficult on the map. Classic split like a champ, had flawless multitasking but the trades were barely in his favor if they were at all.
Of course it's also because Maru has a perfect control himself that it looked so impossible for Classic.
I'd say, on this map, against Maru when he's playing at his best, protoss needs some successful cheese in the early game.

Easier said than done...the non stop harass by Maru is extremly hard to stop..i don't think that there is a Toss pro player that can deal with Maru's harrass and at the same time do the harrass.Of course this is valid only for a Macro build.

I have to 100% disagree with stu. sOs doesn't have zest's execution and this game showed why. Zest would NEVER EVER EVER have lost the way sOs just did. Losing those immortals to pure blink stalkers (which is something only herO does, because it sucks) would never happen to Zest. He would laugh, smack it down and win the game that way, as you should. sOs threw his lead away there.

yes it would have, herO had more gates than classic and classic for some reason kept trying to expand (could have almost been his downfall)
In the second engagement herO sniped the immortals and was only 1-2 stalker behind. Imagine now a second fight without those immortals because his stalkers stayed long enough in the first engagement to kill them.

Maru vs Classic was really good quality. Classic play almost perfectly, but Maru was even better !
Honestly the only big mistake of Classic in game 3 was to aim for the late game. Maru in this form seems uneatable on this map if you don't cheese him. I can't see a protoss win the game that Classic lose. Even a flawless defense from Rain would not have been enough I would argue. He was on fire, never letting his opponnent breathe.
I'm glad Classic managed to get out of the group nonethless, he deserves it after this game against Maru.

Median outcome: Maru 35-34 Classic they had the exact same rating at 2235 I could be wrong but I believe there is are further unshown decimal digits for ratings. I remember picking 2 people who the same whole number rating and it not coming out to 50/50 when I matched them up so this is more than just same rating to the 1s digit I think
Could it be related to MU specific ratings?
