In S3 of 2014, Scarlett and Huk made Ro8 in Premier, in S1 of 2015, Kane made it to Ro8. Now, let's see if Masa can do it too and keep Canada from falling into irrelevancy
3 Groups without Koreans, and all 3 include 1 of 3 SEA players and 1 of 3 real NA players =P These groups are perfect for these regions, I would be surprised if petraeus would be the only SEA / NA player in ro16
Dang. That attack by Mana with somewhere around 8 zealots and 2 DTs at home, made him lose 3 colossi because he didn't have enough to buffer. Close game.

Also, wtf twitch is lagging now out of nowhere.
So you think P should win if they engage in such a fashion with a smaller army? I mean, that's usually how it goes when storm is out, but storm wasn't out. Might as well give zealots 300 hp.

Since almost everyone is a foreigner, going full foreigner is too common to accurately predict the results of the foreignering.
lol
It's true though. Snute went ultimate foreigner vs Kelazhur, that was a complete surprise. I was also surprised MajOr didn't go full Korean at all in his group, not even one game.

he used to dominate Polt in TvT as well. but he's been so underwhelming this year.

Hydra is becoming a westerner at an alarming rate.
it's all part of the plan. hydra, violet, and jaedong are all slowly turning into foreigners both in and out of starcraft. just need captain america now.

That's why terran whining is disgusting. He could have said that he eated storms like a diamond player.
The way he plays makes me feel like he just desperately wants to avoid lategame because to him it's unbeatable. His midgame pushes are pretty scary and lethal while the way he played once storm+colossi were out just screamed "kill me, idgaf anymore"

I hate so much when pro players make dumb balance complaints. Now I have to deal with diamond terrans saying to me on ladder that my race is disgusting and I should kill myself.

Late game Protoss (4+ bases with storm) is objectively stronger than Terran and so hard to beat that most Terrans rather not even try.
Me an a few people were having frame rate issues on Echo when it was just in TLMC, so me an Uvantak spent about 3 hours testing to figure out what was causing it. He left a little easter egg in there as thanks. There's also a devourer somewhere in there because my icon was one at the time

Well, I guess MaSa is on ROOT which is a decently big and popular team. And maybe everyone in the audience is registered on TL and knows about Firecake's history of BM.

Also the map still lags a lot when watched in replay with the ProLeague lobby during PL.

the only thing that would be a way to exploit Firecake's style is cutting hellions and going very greedy

I dunno, I think a better macro player than MaSa would have been able to exploit the openings Firecake's build leaves.
Looking forward for the next game. Should be a good TvZ.
Edit: is it me or isn't Dustin Browder nearly as enthusiastic for HOTS as he was for Starcraft 2 back in the day? He looks exhausted and honestly a bit bored. That fake smile near the end doesn't help.

I think either would be possible, yeah. Definitely not doing the MaSa, getting supply blocked, not denying creep and not dropping when there are no mut-muts.

the thing is, the way Firecake plays in ZvT is very korean-esque with a fairly heavy queen opening and then late mutas that allow him to get 80 drones without dying, provided he multitasks well enough. but yeah there are definitely ways to exploit the roach opening

he is the ZERG EXPERT. Hey at least he asks the play by play questions which i'm sure apollo couldn't have done. Still PiG is a fan favourite and i also really enjoy having him there. Would be cool if he casted more though.

He looked like he had lots of fun when casting with Maynarde at Katowice. Now that Redeye's gone he'll have to host more events in the future so I'm a bit concerned he'll never get to cast.
Here's a solid idea, just let messioso host, everyone loves him.

Not to be blunt, but who is he? I have been following SC2 since the first week of BETA, and WCS is literally the first time I hear about this guy. I've never seen him in any of the premier tournaments like MLG, Dreamhack, or WCS even.
To me it just seems as if they hired a third person just for the sake of having one.

he is the ZERG EXPERT. Hey at least he asks the play by play questions which i'm sure apollo couldn't have done. Still PiG is a fan favourite and i also really enjoy having him there. Would be cool if he casted more though.
Top SEA player, GM on Korea, friendly, goodlooking guy, excellent coach as well. He's a pro, he really works hard to be a good player.

I think that's what he wants though... :/
The few times he has casted he looked angry and upset
I remember reading him saying he considers himself a commentator first, not a host.

So have players like MaSa, so that's nothing to go by. The level in WCS has pretty much crumbled since Blizzard kicked the Koreans out of AM/EU.
Can't help but feel that neither Apollo nor PiG are sure who's supposed to be the host.

Apollo is the host, PiG is the expert for post-game analysis, that's basically it.

It always depends to what you compare. He is really good for NA I'd say. Just not his best games today. But even his best games won't get him into the ro16 in WCS I think. Solid ro32 material if he doesn't have to play a korean in the challenger matches.

Mana's PvT is not very good sadly, he was really disappointed with his skills in the matchup when I watched his stream a while ago. I think Masa can still advance now, would be nice if he gets to play in Toronto .

Mana's going to keep choosing Heromarine until Marine beats him.
how can mana "pick" heromarine, if he is the last player to pick an opponent =O?
Well, he's not the last by default, Snute also finished 4th, so they'll draw between one of them. Aside from that, I don't think Marine is a super popular choice for a lot of Premier league players.

I think mana would need win HSC 11 ( if there are WCS points) to be able to pick before Snute /= but not sure tbh ^^

Iaguz: [failing to see over the depot wall] What's happening out there? Firecake: Shall I describe it to you? Iaguz: [turns] Hmm? Firecake: Or would you like me to find you a box?
Firecake's low apm is also due to the fact that he doesn't spam in early game nor micro his drones, he must have a very low average for the 5 first minutes of the game and accelerate after.

Yeah he has 120 apm while macroing up and spreading creep at the start. I'm sure it went up once he started attacking.

No that happened when he had already lost and got swarmed. I'm talking about the initial runby when his army wasn't being engaged yet. He reacted poorly to that.
it really amuses that normally you'd never wall off with ebays after scouting 2 base roaches, but iaguz knows Firecake has only 1 build and it's not roach aggression.
4 hours 20 minutes for 9 games... So much downtime...
(At that ratio and if ESL was to cast HTC Best of 69 between Snute and Bunny, it would last between almost 17 hours with a 35-0 stomp, and 33 hours for a 35-34...)

Or an entire weekend if there were a lot of long games.
Firecake plays this ZvT very intelligent. His creep spread lets him survive until baneling speed arrives. That's why his econonmy is great and he can throw down a 4th easily. ZvT 101 one should think.

his economy is great because he overdrones and then dies

How about getting ForGG, Hydra and Polt?
I'm not sure what the rules of the group draws are but you probably can't get all 3 of them in the same group.
Groups are IIRC 2 1st place and 2 2nd place that weren't a part of the same group in the ro16. So no SD/ForGG together but you could get ForGG/Hyda/Polt/any other 1st place player

he overdroned once, he'd hold if he wouldn't make those 11 drones just before the fight

No, just how modern ZvT has to be played in order to defend against the Terran parade push. Then you just pray and hope the Terran mines out before you do.

Yep. Though I think a macro hatch would've helped.
While game 1 felt like a solid one blow knockout, game 2 felt like someone just bashing his fist in the other one's face until the guy just passed out.

It's surprising how, after five years of starcraft 2, there are still casters pronouncing the world 'lair' as 'layer'. It's equally surprising how it keeps catching me off guard, and I automatically start thinking "which layer of what?"

the WCS teaser is astonishingly great. can't say that often enough. the G1 advertisement following is a bit like drinking champagne, only to follow up with a big mac.

It's really funy. I love how different heroes and map objectives are. Creates a lot of cool interactions.

boring and too simple
Still that's why it's fun to play with friends of all skill levels and I like that you don't have to farm 20 minutes, you get right into the action. Definitely a fun game imo, just not fit as a main game, since it is indeed very simple.
they are all bad compared to star wars so who cares
Starwars is shit, even the "good" ones are just okay.
Actually, the prequel has great choreographies. Also, there's not much better in life than lightsaber fights. The original sequel is nice to watch . However, I'm too young to have experienced the star wars hype. The SFX must've been astonishing in the 70ies.

echo, coda... not even one full season and already sick of the amount of games we see on these 2 maps. Says also a lot of the design of the other maps.

What? No. The Hobbit movies are the worst. I hate them more than naniwa.
But the prequels man, the prequels D:
Natalie Portman is totally hot, making up for a bad story. The acting was decent. Jar Jar Bings was like the biggest reason to not like the prequels. Oh, and the droid slapstick. And the french bad guys. Also, I like all actors involved besides Hayden Christiansen

It was Indiana Jones in space, that's why it was fun. It was like Avengers without cringe-worthy scenes of the characters fighting or doing science. Guardians of the Galaxy is basically Star Wars.

Nah. Rewatch Obi Wan vs. Anakin in III, rewatch the arena of II, rewatch Darth Maul vs. Obi Wan and Qui Gon in I. Awesome scenes. Samuel Jackson was decent, I found Jar Jar Bings the most annoying, the droid humour just bad and Count Dooku not too great.

There are no tournaments because there are no local players, and there are no local players because there are no tournaments. Its a real Catch-22
it all comes down to the ladder really. No one good plays on NA ladder cause no one good plays on NA ladder (also it's full of hackers and that's Blizzard's fault but still). And as a result, no one gets good in NA

NA does its duty by giving its spots to Koreans.
I'm currently looking at a list of all people liquipedia has as being from the US. Its basically, in terms of people I'd expect to be able to get into premier Suppy Qxc Xeno Puck
With Neeb being in there if he still played (does he?).

Actually I wasn't expecting any US player to get here, except maybe Xeno over iAsonu. I just wanted to point out that it was a big issue for a US game, and as USA is a populous country, not to have a single US player in the most important tournament there is outside of Korea. That is all.

Just forbid cross server play for WCS competitors. Quite simple actually. NA ladder needs a revival. If they did that, every Korean more would actually help immensely when it comes to practice. Like having ForGG is definitely a huge plus for European players and Bunny and the other top players were actually sad when MC, First, Yoda and the rest left.

iAsonu has been playing really well lately in chinese tournaments and apparently has a pretty high ranking on the KR ladder. He just doesnt get a lot of attention since the chinese scene is so tucked away. I dont think it's safe to say that Xeno should have gotten out of his group. iA seems like the better player

And its not like it would solve the problem either. The LCS gets away with such strict residency requirements both because of the weekly live even aspect and the fact that every region has at least a competitive team or two. A "WCS USA" or even a true WCS AM wouldn't solve the issue of there being nearly no Americans, let alone Canadians or Major that can stand at the world stage. Honestly league got lucky the TSM/C9 exist in NA, Fnatic/SK in EU, and the lot of Chinese teams that, even before Korean imports, still could be great.

NA does its duty by giving its spots to Koreans.
It's times like these where I feel like we need full citizenship locking for WCS. No more Koreans period.
Which would be unfair since GSL/SSL aren't region locked and some guys like Polt and ForGG would be forced to leave the regions if they wanted to continue to be pros, after years of living there.
Well it's either we sort of fuck over 2 or 3 pros who have already wons tons of money and fame, and possibly save a scene or let NA rot like it has been for years.
We either go full region lock and give players some actual motivation to be the top of their scene, or we force Koreans to practice on NA and give them some our players some good practice so they can compete better on a world level. Right now we have neither of them and the problems are only getting worse

maybe they should at least make all the koreans even live/play in the regions like they "intended" instead of giving out special exceptions to players like Stardust so they can just have an easier time qualifying
I have no idea why players were sad about MC and co leaving.. It's not like they came close to winning anything last year with a year full of Koreans in the EU ladder... -.-

Because now it's hard for them to find good practice. So it's kinda like being sad and happy at the same time I guess? Sure they have it easier to win money now, but some top players actually care more about becoming better .

I'm currently looking at a list of all people liquipedia has as being from the US. Its basically, in terms of people I'd expect to be able to get into premier Suppy Qxc Xeno Puck
With Neeb being in there if he still played (does he?).
Can't even count Qxc and Suppy. So it's really just Xeno and Puck. Xeno really should have got out of his group..... damn
I forgot about Neeb. He looked strong last year. Then he must have stopped playing or something.
iAsonu has been playing really well lately in chinese tournaments and apparently has a pretty high ranking on the KR ladder. He just doesnt get a lot of attention since the chinese scene is so tucked away. I dont think it's safe to say that Xeno should have gotten out of his group. iA seems like the better player
True. I admit I don't know much about iA so I just assumed Xeno would beat him.

Let's be real for a moment. If Polt, ForGG and Hydra hadn't been allowed to compete in season 1, do you think a player associated with the NA region would have won? No, their level is too low. As someone else said, the NA scene has to be revived another way (stronger moves against maphacks and forcing people to actually use their regional ladder for example).

Well in the long run they could actually win championships due to the better practice and in the end win even more money I guess? Well anyway that's what Bunny said and I see his point, ask him yourself if you want to know more about his thoughts .

So we force better players to play on NA how? Making Koreans do games on it dind't really hellp because they half-assed the bare minimum amount, so what do we do? I mean, argueably the 2 best ladder players in NA in Scarlett and Kane are going to school at the end of the year so we lose them soon even. And Blizzard hasn't given a shit about maphackers for a long time we can't expect them to start now.

If the coaches in Proleague complain about maphacking rather than talk about their games, you know it's an issue. I have no idea why Blizzard is so lax about that, but it's a huge problem .
As for the ladder, force the players playing in the NA region to practice on NA ladder for starters. Players like Stardust and JaeDong practice pretty much exclusively on the KR ladder.

Let's be real here, Blizzard is lax about hackers because they dont' dedicate the manpower to Sc2 to even come close to dealing with it. It's doubtful they ever will. As for your 2nd point, thats quite difficult to do with the prevelance of smurfs and barcodes, but that's basically the only way to do anything I guess.

And Ro4 will have at least 3 Koreans :D
they thought that last time. they were false.
only because of bracket luck, no foreigner beat a korean that weekend.
and there will be 4 or 5 koreans this time instead of 3.
Firecake AKA white Myungsik made it out of his group and so did Myungsik in GSL. Blizzard should not even let these BM'ing kids compete in large scale tournaments.
