I've heard of a game between Scarlett and Bomber you could watch! Banelings are suicide units and are wasted and aren't able to hit all units essentially. Not a fair comparison at all. They also cost half a supply, don't have to burrow before attacking, force quite a bit of micro out of the opponent and can be built close to a battle in a matter of seconds. My point was simply that each race has really cost-effective units... Banelings are so much more difficult to be cost effective with though dude that you can't compare the two.
In a major engagement, I think they can be compared to one another. A widow mine in a mineral line is tough to clean up, and mines along your reinforcement path can also rack up quite a few kills over time, but in a fight, they both force out splits from your opponent and then do varying amounts of splash damage. In some engagements, none of the mines hit any banelings, and the terran loses horribly; in others, they get good hits off and the zerg forces are cleaned up. Is terran really that OP as to warrant a WM nerf? To me it seems that both races, in ling bling muta vs bio mine, have similar functions within their armies (even though the terran forces will ofc be a tad more cost-effective since z relies more on economy).

That doesn't take into consideration the fact that a baneling is much much more likely to do nothing. A terran with decent splits can nullify banelings pretty well, a widow mine is ALWAYS gonna do some damage as you have to sacrifice a unit to trigger it since it's too hard to snipe them off when they're burrowed and there's a big army near them. You need more banelings to be even close to effective than you need widow mines to do there job.

Sure, but time is also a resource. How many factories would you have to build and how long would they have to be producing to amass the same amount of mines as a zerg has banelings? I'm not saying 1 baneling is similar to 1 mine, just that cost-effectiveness isn't a widow mine patent.

Oh Polt ... what about mines ?

You maybe need a factory to make mines ? ^^
Btw i stangle the next protoss talking about how he hates scv pushs :D (warpgate >> scv push for all-ining )

But you don't need the same amount of mines and banelings to do the same job. One factory making mines is more than enough, while you need a lot of banelings if you wanna do anything with them.
