If females want to integrate in eSports, how come they participate in events like this that only segregate them further?
I'll be honest with you, at first I tought the same way as you about female only event.
But men and women aren't the same, i'm not talking about skill, i'm just talking about physical difference. That difference is enough to make our own tournament, like "french only tournament, or diamond only tournament etc..." It's done, in order to make people who got something in common like a nationality, a gender, or a level, play together.
I think, thoses tournament are great, because i can play, and meet new people with them. But that doesn't mean, i don't enjoy regular tournament.
I'm not taking part of "female only" tournaments, because i'm bad, and i want to stick with other girls who got a lower average level on this game. I'm taking part of it, because it's entertaining.
When i play this game i want to be considered as a gamer equally capable as any other player, regardless my gender. But having the same abilities as a man, doesn't mean I have to hide my gender, and pretend man and woman is the same thing.
Plus I don't want to only think about "female development on the esport scene" when i play this game, I don't care that much about what people think about me or the other female player to be honest. If there are people thinking that those tournament are for womens, because they're bad on this game, well it's ok, i can live with that, as long as i have fun on it.

Ok, just to clarify: we (the admins for the cup) are totally pro female*trans participants! The tournament is supposed to be supportive towards marginalized groups and we do not want to re-create the forced gender dichotomy, while still offering a "safer" and encouraging environment.
However the standard ESL rules do require voice verification - we know that that is very restrictive and does not work for several people. But if we look at the veralynn-incident we know that some verification is (sadly!!) necessary. Despite that we try to make it possible for all female-(self-)identified people to participate, for example if someone is mute we might go for video chat. So please just contact me on ESL and i will make sure we find a way

I'm sure that it filters out the boys who would like to mess with the competition for some reason, but I doubt that it would have stopped VeraLynn from saying "hello" and have DeathAngel play on her account.

wow, you obviously you completely misread me there. still of course i am sorry that i hurt you, although that was not my intention.
i was trying to say that i know it is stupid that people expect people to have certain voices and stuff. but that i do not make the rules, that turtle entertainment / esl makes them. and that i will do anything in my power to include everyone. and i never wrote what you had to pass or do, but just said "talk to me, female identified or whatever you call yourself works for me".
Despite that we try to make it possible for all female-(self-)identified people to participate, for example if someone is mute we might go for video chat. So please just contact me on ESL and i will make sure we find a way
sorry, that i am not in a position with more power and that i am not allowed to change the rules in general that way or the title.
i am working on the injustice here, please try to not kick people as hard who are at least trying to be allies agains the gender matrix

Another ESL admin here. We know from experience that girls are more likely to join a tournament if there are only other girls in it. Also it encourages other women if they see Female players and give them more interest of gaming in general.
This creates an environment where this minority group can find others with the same dilemmas. New friendships are established during our tournament and we are very happy to host them for this sake. No money or price pool, just a fun tournament.
If you are transgender, identify as female and want to join the tournament, please contact one of our admins and we'll work things out.

It's women's cup. Not female. Female refers to a specific biological sex of an organism and is by definition not a very inclusive term.
