Great news! From now on, female Starcraft II tournaments on ESL are to become monthly recurring events, so you will always have another all-female cup to look forward to! The next one takes place this Sunday May 18th at 5 pm CEST.
As always, these tournaments are open for players from ALL LEAGUES and ALL REGIONS (Note: the cup will be played on EU, unless otherwise decided). We were very happy to have players from Bronze to Master in the last tournament and hope to continue in the same community building spirit! So that everyone gets her fair share of playing, we decided on on doing a double elimination bracket. Also note that there is no price money, but the winner will be interviewed on our news page.
Find the sign-up page, rules, bracket and other infos on the page of the cup.
Hope to see you too! And feel free to promote the cup as big as you want. If you have any questions, please post it in our ESL female Forum or contact an admin. For more info on the tournament go to its page directly.
We are trying to get the tournament streamed and will let you know as soon as we can confirm a streamer.

If females want to integrate in eSports, how come they participate in events like this that only segregate them further?

Why foreigner only tournaments...? Why bronze/silver/gold league only tournaments...? Why Americas only tournaments...?
Because these tournaments allow certain groups to gain experience and that is good for the development of the whole scene! And if someone takes the time to organize a tournament for females only, let them. It's not hurting anyone or anything!!

And there I thought we would have to wait at least half a page before the first stupid comment.

Probably not, since i guess that would spawn a large wave of dudes who suddenly turned transgender.

It is a completely different thing to discriminate between players in terms of ability, e.g. Bronze, Gold etc, than it is to discriminate against them based on their gender or color. Black players only cup - are you comfortable with that? Maximus Black so has that one.
However, when a certain group is under represented in an activity then it is good to see efforts being made to address the issue. I hope that they can stream it.
This one belongs to Scarlett. You go, girl!

It's unfortunate, but I'm not delusional enough to think I would make it past the first round on anything but a bye.
I really don't think there's an argument that a trans woman on HRT would have any advantage in a female-only video game tournament, probably opening a can of worms here but oh well.

Do you really think a pro player like Scarlett would compete in a "no prize money" tournament ? It would like your boss telling you : "Hey you're going to work on sunday and i won't pay you", and you would be like : "hey yeah no problem" She needs to pay bills you know

I'll be honest with you, at first I tought the same way as you about female only event.
But men and women aren't the same, i'm not talking about skill, i'm just talking about physical difference. That difference is enough to make our own tournament, like "french only tournament, or diamond only tournament etc..." It's done, in order to make people who got something in common like a nationality, a gender, or a level, play together.
I think, thoses tournament are great, because i can play, and meet new people with them. But that doesn't mean, i don't enjoy regular tournament.
I'm not taking part of "female only" tournaments, because i'm bad, and i want to stick with other girls who got a lower average level on this game. I'm taking part of it, because it's entertaining.
When i play this game i want to be considered as a gamer equally capable as any other player, regardless my gender. But having the same abilities as a man, doesn't mean I have to hide my gender, and pretend man and woman is the same thing.
Plus I don't want to only think about "female development on the esport scene" when i play this game, I don't care that much about what people think about me or the other female player to be honest. If there are people thinking that those tournament are for womens, because they're bad on this game, well it's ok, i can live with that, as long as i have fun on it.

Ok, just to clarify: we (the admins for the cup) are totally pro female*trans participants! The tournament is supposed to be supportive towards marginalized groups and we do not want to re-create the forced gender dichotomy, while still offering a "safer" and encouraging environment.
However the standard ESL rules do require voice verification - we know that that is very restrictive and does not work for several people. But if we look at the veralynn-incident we know that some verification is (sadly!!) necessary. Despite that we try to make it possible for all female-(self-)identified people to participate, for example if someone is mute we might go for video chat. So please just contact me on ESL and i will make sure we find a way

I'm sure that it filters out the boys who would like to mess with the competition for some reason, but I doubt that it would have stopped VeraLynn from saying "hello" and have DeathAngel play on her account.

wow, you obviously you completely misread me there. still of course i am sorry that i hurt you, although that was not my intention.
i was trying to say that i know it is stupid that people expect people to have certain voices and stuff. but that i do not make the rules, that turtle entertainment / esl makes them. and that i will do anything in my power to include everyone. and i never wrote what you had to pass or do, but just said "talk to me, female identified or whatever you call yourself works for me".
Despite that we try to make it possible for all female-(self-)identified people to participate, for example if someone is mute we might go for video chat. So please just contact me on ESL and i will make sure we find a way
sorry, that i am not in a position with more power and that i am not allowed to change the rules in general that way or the title.
i am working on the injustice here, please try to not kick people as hard who are at least trying to be allies agains the gender matrix

Another title for Maddelisk !

Another ESL admin here. We know from experience that girls are more likely to join a tournament if there are only other girls in it. Also it encourages other women if they see Female players and give them more interest of gaming in general.
This creates an environment where this minority group can find others with the same dilemmas. New friendships are established during our tournament and we are very happy to host them for this sake. No money or price pool, just a fun tournament.
If you are transgender, identify as female and want to join the tournament, please contact one of our admins and we'll work things out.

It's women's cup. Not female. Female refers to a specific biological sex of an organism and is by definition not a very inclusive term.

I dunno, I think some people would like a chance just to play with progamers so why not have professional players participate in a tournament with out prize pool. Professional athletes do that sort of charity / promotional stuff all the times playing with kids and aspiring athletes.

TL is so funny in this regard. I haven't yet met a single transgender person IRL, yet every thread remotely conncected to women is inevitable filled with a trans discussion. It's like an obsession. I am sure that ESL, begin one of the most reputable organisations in the whole SC2 scene, is able to make everyone as comfortable as possible without having to spell every fringe case in the rules explicitly. So people can leave their pitchforks for a better accasion and enjoy some SC2 instead, if they wish.

This is awesome! I love tournaments with any sort of restriction of entry!
|
|
So is there any streams/vods of this?
You don't really grow a scene if the tournaments that support it happen in obscurity with none the wiser.

Normal people don't care that there are transgender people who like the same things they do or go to the same websites they do. I'm transgender and I want to play in a female tournament. If I can't discuss it here, where am I supposed to go, a trans-free quarantine website so you don't have to be exposed to people that aren't straight white cis-males like yourself? For the record, despite numerous problems with ESL's very transphobic policies, Zolor and sherazade worked very hard today to get me into the tournament. I had a lot of fun and I hope zombie grub wins.
You sound like a tumblr person o.0
You may be transgendered, and feel hurt, but you don't need to have such an attitude my friend.

Yea the archiving function was turned off yesterday so no VOD's.. Sorry about that! There will be a next time though
This was my first time casting a SC2 game+Tournament and I was very happy with the feedback I got. I will keep practicing to make it even better next time, as we will try to hold a tournament once a month, with respect for the holidays of course

Yeah, that was close, i think i shall have stick to a banshee opener / raven / tank instead of trying a 15 gas expend on waystation.
Sadly, this tournament lacked of master player, overall it was fun, but a lot of good player were missing.
