Pretty clear that this entire game was prepared by Journey rather than a last minute strategy out of desperation. It's pretty smart when you think about it:
Since Journey was able to secure the Gold as his main base, suddenly taking Base 3 (and 2 along the way) is much easier, especially with the buildings in the middle of the map. If you were to traditionally expand from your main to the gold, you'd have a lot more issues with space control + he's able to take both bases faster, which is why Journey has a supply lead right now.
Artosis dismissing a gold lift, when really it's a well thought out strategy.

Agreed there is a strategic, positional advantage for base progression. Your more-established new main (gold) is now a defensive line to protect your two expansions.
But: you are MUCH closer to your opponent, who gets a mining head start. That makes you substantially more vulnerable in the opening. I think the question is how long you need to survive to make the gold-first worth it? 5 min? 7 min? 10 min?
