Well. Mech was a deathball composition. And still is tbh.

It's a hell of a lot more exciting/positional based than broodlord infestor, and it requires more skill to actually use compared to bio as well. Bio is about trying to force mistakes from your opponent, where as to win with mech you need to be super airtight and not make any mistakes yourself.
Bio you can throw armies away and it means nothing, mech is all about being strong as hell.

I was really hoping that HotS would revive factory styles, but the Viper just seems too good against big, expensive units vs. Z. Well, Maru did win game 1 with Mech. He won game 1 with Hellbats drops.*
Well technically he got ahead with hellbat drops, but won with the mech push.

he's right, maru could have taken that base as a 6th and retreated before the remax came instead of staying to die.

maru is really good at multitasking and microing, why would he waste his potential playing mech? Mkp is the same thing, terrible builds over and over, at this point I can't help but wonder if they would do the same with a different coach.

Way better than mass tanks thor deathball mech crap of WoL. Mech in WoL was just another deathball that was hard to get to. Didn't function interestingly at all in TvZ anyway. Never got why people had such a hardon over it. That last game may prove atypical, but there was a lot of on the fly strategy in evidence there. That I love to see, rather than pre-prepared builds and games so often being decided more on execution. You could tell Soulkey kind of had to think his way out of trouble. a need for being good at on the fly strategy disappeared over time in WoL though Well true, or when it's in evidence people will claim the games are 'sloppy' invariably.

The time when you HAD to tech to BLs because the power level was high enough that you had to cheat like vs Protoss deathball.
5 tanks its a game
10-15 tanks oops hive tech baby.

That's why he had plenty of Vikings, wasn't it? If the Vikings can't stop your army from being blanketed in clouds or abducted, then there's not much point in having them. You also need them against corruptors sniping ravens and BC, AND against BL switches. Mech has to have a large cloud of vikings. I suppose, but I think with enough Ravens you don't need that many Vikings. The Corruptors Soulkey did have evaporated to a few missiles, plus there's Yamato.
Vipers can do there job (blind tanks) before they die. Mech is useless without tanks << zerg.

In it's current state... Nothing. But it's interesting to see once in a while. Setting up a minefield in the front of a zergs base and then putting all your barracks rally points there is not so much more exciting either.

Opter.. You know better than to Ad hominem a perfectly reasonable point. We had full vision, and saw what was happening. Maru, did not so he's likely to make mistakes we would not. Getting into a location with 180 degree concave against him with 2 high grounds from which to attack killed Maru. At the same time, Soulkey was down to double-digit minerals. If the two bases had been killed, Soulkey would have needed to all-in into a more favourable position for Maru.
Whether the two bases could be killed or not is of course debatable, but so is every other what-if situation.

Well done Soulkey.
I feel like that build is really strong if you get ahead with your initial hellbat drops. But even thought Maru didnt that time, he stayed on pretty even footing until he lost his army in his big push. Felt like he kinda over made vikings, that supply would have been much more useful in more ravens/tanks. He needed to deal with those swarm host, their cost/damage ratio was HUGE in that game. So efficient.
Lets go Flash!!!
