He should have killed Soulkey bases back to 4 then go back, recuperate, regroup. Not suicide his tank count.

Sadly mech lives and dies by hellbat drops. It will likely only get worse from here.

That's why he had plenty of Vikings, wasn't it? If the Vikings can't stop your army from being blanketed in clouds or abducted, then there's not much point in having them. You also need them against corruptors sniping ravens and BC, AND against BL switches. Mech has to have a large cloud of vikings. I suppose, but I think with enough Ravens you don't need that many Vikings. The Corruptors Soulkey did have evaporated to a few missiles, plus there's Yamato.

I was really hoping that HotS would revive factory styles, but the Viper just seems too good against big, expensive units vs. Z.
Well, Maru did win game 1 with Mech.

Yup. I wish they had scourge to take out colossus / battlecruiser or whatever. Blinding cloud is good enough vs tanks anyway. I love Abduct. Makes no sense but it looks amazing and I like what it does. What makes no sense about it is that a Viper, which weighs half a ton at best and flies can use it on a Thor, which weighs at least 10 tons and stands firmly on the ground. Other than that, my favourite ability. Joink!
I bet Abathur could explain it, that dude is smart

It'll probably become important to mix ghosts for emp into these compositions. basically this. you will need some ghosts once you push out. defensively mech was very fine with buildings, turrets, vikings and ravens but offensively 5 or so ghosts will be key. How can you micro this army then? you have lets say 4-6 BCs, Vikings, Ravens, Ghosts, Tanks and filler stuff. Should be really hard.

Sorry, but I play that style of mech every game on ladder and I've been barking on how it can work.
He made the mistake of not killing both top bases when he had the chance and he pushed unsieged down the bottom without taking the bottom base. Huuuuuge mistakes.
That game was still in Marus hands all the way until he couldn't secure that bottom base.

And this game was also pretty close, Soulkey just played extremely well.

thx Maru for not playing bio.

Maru won game 1 with hellbat drops.
I hope to see more Terrans take lessons from Baby and experiment with big army movements in medivacs (a la BW). Should be more viable now with speed too.

What exactly is fun about mech? It plays out as defense+hellbat drops into move across map with army meant to be invincible. It's the BL/infestor of terran.
