Well, if you go hydras, you need to make sure the protoss is getting late colossi. If the protoss has 2 colossi out before your push, you wouldn't trade very cost effectively and the muta switch can't be dealt with by stalkers and the zerg is behind. The runby in the second game was the winning move more than the hydra bust. The weakness of hydras has always been AoE and their inability to retreat. Late Colo deals with the AoE part and when you have a much bigger army, you don't need to retreat. So Life took advantage of it. Again, I think the build comes out a bit behind against non-late colo builds. But the meta has been shifting to late colo lately so it was really smart of Life.

It's the fact that they can just make alot more of them than the other races. Noone would complain about broodlords of zerg couldnt get 10+ of them instantly but just a few ![]()

It worked because it was unexpected. All zergs go ling/infestor or roach/ling in the mid game and turtle for their Tier3 comp, so all protoss tries to counter that style of play. When Parting blindly does a build against low ranged units, it's no suprise that he gets wrecked against fast hydras.
