if you plan to not expand fast or mine out the map, do supply drops

Artosis knows a lot about starcraft but this isn't the first time he's said that supply drops can be better than building depots in a timely manner and he's still not right. BaBy just uses them so much because its better to supply drop than be supply blocked for too long.

In longer games where mining out is a factor you get supply for free rather than mining out faster

Basically, every supply drop 'creates' minerals that didn't exist on the map beforehand, whereas mules just mine what's there faster. Idea being in a longer game the terran ultimately benefits from x additional minerals 'created' via supply drop.

Supply drops don't eat up minerals, so they save you 100 minerals that you'd mine, while mules don't 'save' you any minerals, they just mine them faster.
Everyone's fond of saying that it's real smart in certain situations, but it's usually used for supply blocks, and is almost never practical, despite what a lot of people seem to think.
