If this was truly the tournament to find the best in the world, it would be 27 or 28 Korean players and 4-5 foreigners. Just have fun with it and don't try to use it as the ultimate test, because It's not. It was a lot more Koreans and a lot more foreigners in the beggining. I'm not sure how to respond to this, because I don't understand the point you're trying to make. Yes the regionals had lots of Korean players, because it was the KR regional. What should have been done is give more seeds to WCS KR and WCS asia if they wanted to make it the hardest tournament to win. As it stands now this is no more difficult than an MLG, perhaps even easier. You don't even need to decrease the number of players from other regions, just make the tournament bracket suitable for a larger number of players. This. The reaction that a ton of koreans withdrew from the tournament just proves that this is by far NOT the most important/prestigious tournament in the world. Meh. Did it prove that GSL code S doesn't mean much, when Rain forfeited his spot? That's different because Rain is a kespa player who has never before seen the light of a foreign day. Also not sure how voluntarily he gave up that spot. However, tons of people dropping out of a tournament like this is different. No, his hand was probably forced. But the same thing was most likely the case for MVP and MC, who went to gamescom to do sponsor-work (and play IEM).

Yeah, so their teams decided that this tournament isn't as important it seems to me. Which I'm sad about.

I dunno. In a way it feels like those Koreans who just decided not to participate in the first place are the players that are not really cut to the task one way or the other. When we are talking about 100k USD for the winner all the player who didn't participate are pretty much irrelevant, no matter their reasons. Right now we are only looking at the people who actually are taking part and so far it looks to be an awesome tournament.

Like I said, the prize pool was only announced two months ago long after the qualifiers and WCS KR was over. The players had no idea how much the tournament was going to be worth, for example Team Liquid sent Taeja to the MLG arena instead of letting him play in the WCS KR qualifiers. I'm sure they regret that decision now, but there was no way to know what the right choice was at the time.
Blizzard is to blame, they should have announced the prize pool along with the original announcement of the WCS early this year. That way the players could clearly see it was worth their time to give everything they have to make it to the world finals. At the time of WCS KR the community consensus was that no one really cared about the tournament compared to a GSL.

The prize pools for blizzard run tournaments have always been pretty good, even the regionals had a good prize pool. it would be pretty safe to assume that the global finals would have a pretty significant prize pool.
ofc you can never be sure...

Sure, you can assume it would be a lot, but to state from the beginning " The winner of the world finals will get 100k " it sends a message to the players.
They will say " shit, I better care about this tournament, It's worth more money than winning GSL twice. "
That way, they all try their hardest in the qualifiers and you don't have Mvp and MC dropping out of WCS KR early on.
We could have had Taeja and Mvp at the world finals, which would have made this a much more interesting tournament. Obviously It's still going to be a great tournament but with a little more careful planning it could have been better. Something to work on for next year.

I'm sure there were other factors involved
