The time has come for our twenty-eighth IGN Pro League Fight Club! This is a weekly king of the hill showmatch series. Basically, there will be a 1 vs. 1 best of 9 showmatch each and every week, where the winner will earn a $500 prize and a $100 bounty on their head. For example, if a player wins three weeks in a row they will have earned $1,500 and a $300 bounty. If a NEW challenger defeats him, they will earn $500 for the showmatch, take the $300 bounty home, and have a new $100 bounty placed on their head for each week that they win.
When: Monday, Aug 06 11:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also broadcast the match repeatedly afterwards!)
StarTale's Squirtle has joined the ranks of HerO and Sheth with 3 consecutive Fight Club wins! He's taken down CoCa, VortiX, and Illusion with ease, but this week he faces another amazing challenger in TSL.HyuN! Will HyuN be able to crack the Squirtle code, or will Squirtle take him down and become our first 4 time winner of IPL Fight Club?! Tune in tonight to find out!
OH HELL YEH COME ON HYUN GET IT DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hyun is my favourite playerand his ZvT and his ZvZ are his most famous match ups, his ZvP is good and although he made mistakes against genius that wasn't his best play.
Squirtle got absolutely destroyed by Symbol. Symbol is Hyun's teammate therefore Symbol will teach Hyun how to beat Squirtle. I am going to call Hyun > Squirtle 5-1 with Squirtle doing a successful cheese or all in.

I wonder if he's going to play well or abysmally today.
HyuN just needs to stop doing stupid three base all-ins and lean on his mechanics as his only saving grace. If he plays his ZvP like he does normally, he should be fine.
TSL zergs really like their drops in ZvP, in general TSL zergs seem to favour drops than other zergs. I've even seen shine use drops against bio terran.

Are you talking about his supply lead? Cause Zerg always have that when going pure roaches. He was definitely in with a fighting chance before the massive fail drop, and imo hydras only have very specific uses, and certainly not on a map that big so going them was an odd choice, it pretty much depended on Squirtle fully committing with his blink stalker immortal army on creep, which Squirtle never did, he just poked, then sat back on 4 bases.

Did I kill the thread or am I just really boring?
Not supply lead. He was harassing really well but then threw away a huge chunk of his army with that one mistake. I can see why he chose to run up the ramp but I think if he didn't do that he woudl ahve won.
HyuN playing the old school ZvP Roach/Hydra/Corruptor. I'm not convinced it will work, especially because of how much compositions have improved, though it does kill Colossi really fast.
well he had 1more base, just making more unit and throwing them at the opponent works if you have the income for it. Also the hydras was protected by roaches and they do good dps

I can't see it changing things that much when it doesn't affect their speed on-creep and requires Hive tech.

If you build the Gate close to your mineral line it's easy, you can just defend your Gate and play pretty normally. If you do it at the ramp you'll need to wall off with another Gate and Pylon to stall time for your Zealot.
Entombed valley is a map that really attracts zerg cheeses and all ins, I feel that if gateway builds became more popular the heavy amounts of blind cheese on entombed may go down. Just my opinion but I rarely see standard ZvP on entombed.

Tasteless managed to plug in the middle of one of the bigger engagments of Mvp/Squirtle g5, that's still quite an achievement.

Ret would not be pleased, unless one of the rules was having to constantly plug the players.

Honestly surprised to see Hyun make it this close of a series but I'll be more surprised if he takes the whole thing. Still rooting for Squirtle to finally break the FC record, though.

he do have 70% win ratio vs protoss so Hyun is good in this match up, really good

I remember watching Slayers vs TSL live, and someone (may have been one of the casters) mentioned that Hyun was performing better than Symbol at the team house. That definitely put him on my radar, but a statistic like that, yeah. I wouldn't have guessed that. Pretty sick winrate.
Hopefully it goes 5-4 and we get more games out of this.
On August 07 2012 10:17 Fusilero wrote: What did hyun do? I was listening to the cast while playing lol and I hear kevin orgasming over neurals from hyun.
Hyun got most all of his broodlords vortexed, and they were all going to die to an archon toilet. Hyun neuraled the mothership and cloaked all his broordlords as they came out saving them from the archons and won the engagement from there.
On August 07 2012 10:17 Fusilero wrote: What did hyun do? I was listening to the cast while playing lol and I hear kevin orgasming over neurals from hyun.
Nothing special really, just a million infested terrans after vortex, then he neuraled the MS for 'bout 2 secs afterwards which cloaked the BLs, but it wouldn't have made a difference, no way Hyun would've lost that fight with that many infested terrans anyway.
On August 07 2012 10:17 WilDMousE wrote: What happened? everyone's just OMG
Squirtle cast a great vortex, trapping most of the brood lords. Hyun then threw tons of infested terrans in front of the vortex, then waited until just before everything pops out and neurals the mothership = everything is cloaked and the toilet didn't work. Proceed to clean up army.
On August 07 2012 10:17 WilDMousE wrote: What happened? everyone's just OMG
He apparently neuraled the Mothership at the right moment to stealth his BLs and prevent the archons from raping them.
I also think the mass of the mothership being at the right place caused the BL to spread out. Hyun couldn't have known that Squirtle had no obs so that his BL's would be cloaked.
Seen Destiny do that a million times, a lot more impressive at times than that was too, but I guess since it was against Squirtle we all gotta freak out...meeeh

This ^. The casters didn't really point that out, but Hyun has like 12 full energy infestors that all dropped mass IT. The mothership vaporized instantly when it went back to Squirtle's control.
The engagement wasn't actually unfavourable to Hyun. Squirtle did cut off like 1/10th of the army.. but it didn't matter.

Yeah I mean, it was a desperation move for sure, it's not something that Zergs can plan for or rely on because it will be very common that an observer will be right there even if you get the neural off at the right time.

No way, Hyun was dead.
he used about 12 or so full energy infestors for ITs, that's about 100 eggs, you can pretty much solo the entire army with that -.-

All squirtle had to to was not let 12 infestors drop full energy on his army. He seriously had 7-8 BLs and mass infestor only.
It was the climax of the game and HyuN was playing from behind.
Of course it was huge, and no he wasnt going to win the game right from here. Maybe he'd won the fight (and thats not even sure), but he had no economy to replenish his army

Doesn't matter who you are, SC is a game about limiting your errors, thats where you get better. There is no such thing as perfect play, so you capitalize on the other guy's mistakes.
Its like chess, or any strategy game known to man. If you wanna have perfect play's go play lost vikings

No. I can't understand the hype.
What is so amazing about that? Mechanically it's not difficult.
Decision wise, well he has fucking 16 infestors. It's not great decision making.
Did he position well atleast? More that Squirtle left his mothership sitting over the area with almost no units around it. That was completely unnecessary.
There was nothing that hyun actively did to make that awesome.
It's just kind of sad when Cats calls that one of his top 5 pimpest plays for all of sc2.

One time, me and a friend were 2v2ing ZP against TT. So we get to the lategame, and we are up against a 350 supply 3/3 bioball. So my P friend gets 2 huge vortexes off, and then when the bio pops out, I fungalled and he stormed. Sickest game ever!
Where am I going with this? Context matters, and crazy shit happens all the time on ladder. But when it happens in a competitive match for cash, that's when it really becomes incredible to watch. Seeing something happening one time on stream on ladder is much different from seeing something happen when there is $500 bucks on the line.

I doubt Destiny's done that a million times. It wasn't just a neural to cloak his own units. It was Hyun consciously targeting down observers (protecting infestors) and then resisting the temptation to immediately cast neural, waiting until just before the vortex runs out and infested terrans hatch.
TSL zergs are scary good. They're the reason why TSL is my third favorite team behind MVP and Startale, and Hyun happens to be my favorite TSL zerg of all!

I think you'd have to watch the replay second by second to conclude that. It's entirely possible (or probable..) that any observer there died instantly to incidental fungal/infestor terran/corruptor and that the mothership NP was more or less at a coincidental time. He had to perform like 70+ actions on his infestor group to get all of those ITs out. /shrug

The timing of neural was definitely not coincidental. Hyun knew Squirtle was out of observers. Though Hyun might have been "lucky" in getting the opportunity to kill all the observers in the first place, I give you that.

5 best uses of BL/Infestor, actually. Look, if you came to shit all over that sexy play, don't. Me and my brothers mouths were wide open in awe while we were watching that. It was epic.
Besides, as a counter example, at MLG Columbus marineking took out partings entire army sans 3 HTs and then lost his bio ball to three of the best placed storms ever. SOOOO GOOOD. Let us freak out.

A lot of people forgot that Hyun threw a good chunk of his army before the fight even started because he move commanded a bunch of units. On top of that, Squirtle got a pretty good Vortex on a bunch of the Broodlords.
Everyone has seen countless Neurals on motherships, just not one very often that turned the tide of the battle so drastically.
