Because in this stage of the tournament it's split in two parts (one for the Kespa-players and one for the non-Kespas).
nono, it's because each group is Match 1: A vs B Match 2: C vs D Match 3: Winner of 1 vs Winner of 2 ---> Match 3 Winner advances Match 4: Loser of 1 vs Loser of 2 Match 5: Match 3 Loser vs Match 4 Winner ---> Match 5 Winner advances

this format is known as 'dual tournament' haha
Basically GOM format but Bo1 =/
GOM used this format for an entire year, but it originated from OGN.
I think Bo1 is fine in BW, because it's not as random as SC2 can be. Bo1 is not that great for SC2 as it was for BW.

Dual Tournament format is used in OSL and MSL long time ago before GOM used it, lol.
And maybe I exagerated with 50% luck, but Bo1 Groups is much Luck-based in SC2 that in BW.
I can understand tradition, but it's a pity that they stuck with bo1s imo. OSL may be the better tournament overall and with a ton more history, but the current GSL Code S format is the grand prix of giving everyone a chance and ensuring that the best player on the day advances. Unfortunately, this is not.
I predict players getting cheesed out and lots of whining/bans to follow.

lol
People complaining about Bo1s were always wrong anyway.
I disagree. Tradition is not a valid excuse for having a poor format....(or most anything in life for that matter). GSL's current group system is better because it cuts out all the random shit that occurs in a best of one.
It is not a poor format. Bo1 groups was fair in BW and always worked fine.
OGN still dont know well SC2 and that it is a game based 50% in Luck...
50% luck with 3 people winning 9 GSLs. Okay.
Edit: grammar.
Yeah I don't agree with the 50% Luck but Bo1s have no place in SC2.
How many of those GSLs have Bo1s? Not many. Which is the point of this conversation.
Bo1s in SC2 is absolutely horrible.
Yes, looked at versus any one player it is a Bo1..but in the overall context every player is essentially playing a Bo3, albeit possibly against varying players from their group.
Yeah, bo1 is bad. Everyone knows how easy it is to lose one game in SC2. Not even due to big mistakes.
Does anyone know why ESportsTV is blocked in Germany? Never been able to watch the livestream. I know there will be restreams or something but still...
I could see the players having a lot of respect for the tournament so much that barely any of them end up cheesing, maybe. Would be a shame to see 2rax all day every day (although only three terrans).
I haven't seen San play in ages. He's had a real roller coaster of a career in SC2. In honor of the old days, when GSL was first starting I hope that San crushes both DRG and Symbol to rise to the top of his group.
Korean tournaments usually go for quality, not quantity of games. If they show this on TV, then it's a stupid idea to have bo3. It would take up all the broadcasting hours of other games. Realize that their TV channel is not just for Starcraft. They have other games to broadcast, too. If you have a bazillion games played, then they would go down in history as just a bunch of games, which is hard to remember whether one is epic or not. With fewer number of games, epic games will be remembered forever.

Their main audience is Korea. A TV channel get more viewers that a internet stream. But I guess they will get english casters soon (I personally dont care, If casters are not Artosis/Tastelees I prefer korean casters to the other ones).
