I'm curious on why you changed it to boogey from boogie?

I have been a bit inconsistent between spellings...trying to converge on one. As far as I can tell, both are equally "valid"

Okay, fixed. I had to turn off everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, including sound, mouse, scroll speed, and basically anything that can affect performance in any way. I am now only a smidge quicker than the boxes, so little as to be unnoticeable unless I'm looking for it. But, god, did that suck. I was getting beaten by bronzes, and earlier this week I was matching golds. Egad.

Game is now playable! Yay!
Incidentally, my lappy sits right next to the router, so signal strength is only attenuated by about 12 inches.

Could be other programs open that is eating cpu and slowing it down. Like things on your minibar or processes running you can't see. Possibly even a virus running in the background eating up ram and whatnot.

Checked them. I'd like to turn off the Toshiba notification thingamajigger, but it doesn't have an "off" function and deleting it voids the warranty.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Basically I went into the Starcraft 2 options menu and every flier that said "may affect performance" I turned off. Now running 16 sound channels, mouse acceleration off (which I normally have off anyway, I don't know why it turned it back on), voice toasts off, resolution 1280x720 (the lowest I can go and still have widescreen), and everything thing else but health bars and flier helper turned off.

End result: A playable game. Quite playable.

Also, just noticed the irony. Lol at myself "I was getting beaten by bronze players" when I'm in the bronze bracket and have 1 win and 2 losses. Well, I did say I don't have a clue in my blog. Guess I should save up and buy one.

Hey Tricky, I'm still having a problem checking your profile on SC2. Might be bnet's problem. I'll be on tonight from about 7pm EST- 12EST so find me there and we'll get these matches done

Random question for discussion since Bnet is down right now- I was told earlier this season (around the first week) that race-changing is not allowed during the course of season one. I was random before the season and declared a race (zerg) so that I could focus on that and have been regretting the decision for a few weeks. This is a somewhat unique situation and I don't expect the rules to be changed for me, but I just want to talk about the possibility of changing this in the future.

After the scheduling was changed to lineup format, meaning that essentially matchups are random draw, it seems like it no longer made a difference who was what race. If you're in the gold bracket, you have one of three people that you could potentially play against but you have no idea who that will be anyway. What would be the problem with allowing people to change race over the course of the season? If there are concerns that people would race-pick to give themselves an advantage in certain matchups, make them declare a race at the start of the week when lineups go out. I don't even see a problem with race-picking given that the player would have to play at the highest level of any of their races anyway, but I can understand if others don't like the idea.

Essentially, it just seems like this rule can be irritating to some players that want to experiment with another race while not really helping anyone at the same time.

the main reason i would want a 'known' player is so that it is easier to practice a build against a specific MU, if you so choose. Having a race submitted at the same time as a lineup would solve that problem, but i feel that could still exploit the metagame in that you could game the odds if a team has two zerg, and you know your TvZ is great, one might pick terran.

Not that i think that anyone is trying to exploit this league in any manner, we're all here for fun, and that would be ridiculous.

Im actually fine with someone race switching mid season as long as it doesnt become frequent and its stated before a week's matches are drawn. It seems to me that its basically the same idea as dropping one player for another mid-season. However, hand choosing one's race per week feels wrong to me. switching to random, awesome, picking a race each week is not really so random, or awesome imo.

Worst case scenario, we're only stuck as a race for a few more weeks in the regular season, and two more for the post.

I like both posts so far, each with fine points...if a guy is gonna switch, switch...just make sure I know. Some of the guys in this league dont play all weke until their games, but some of us, myself included, are usually nightly playing and practicing for these games...so it hurts us to practice for 1 race only to have that pulled from under us. so if someone switches, just make it known well before that weeks games.

The question of sticking with a race was, as you mentioned, because we want to avoid race-picking. That's why teams send their lineups to us and then we release them simultaneously, so teams can't pick matchups that are better for their specific players, and also why teams can't change their players in the lineup unless they can't actually play the set.

The rules stating that you can't change races/players/etc during the season were for the sake of stability, but as this is the first season we're giving more leeway regarding that stuff. For example, supposedly teams couldn't get new players throughout the season, but we've giving them to teams that need them anyway, as you've probably seen by the posts I make everytime there's a change in a roster.

What I'm saying is, you can ask us to change your race for the season, but we can't let you choose your race for each match.

@ Errant- Unless a team has all potential matchups being one race (and none do) you can't really effectively race-pick anyway. You are guaranteed to have at least two potential matchups no matter what.

As for there only being "a few more weeks", that's an extremely long time to play something that you aren't enjoying. Waiting until July to be able to use another race just sucks and as you pointed out, we're all here for fun. If someone was to change races that person would probably be worse than they would have been for the short term. I'm not even saying that I would change, just that if I knew that I had option I would consider practicing as other races.

This isn't a situation where I had a bad streak and just want to switch today. I first asked about the race change in week one and have since put in over two hundred 1v1 ladder games. I very well may not switch, but I find myself in a place where I am just not enjoying playing Z. I'd rather get the ball rolling on a discussion sooner instead of later.

@Ksquared- yeah I know this is basically the Chobo Protoss League, but I would be looking at toss .

What it comes down to for me is that I don't see how at least having the option could hurt anyone. I mean is anyone seriously opposed to this?

Ok, so changes are allowed? I'm guessing the admins will need to discuss the specifics but that is good to hear.

I personally have no problems with anyone changing to any race, even last minute.

After reading a number of articles and running some statistics, it strikes me that roughly 88% of all players fall within a range that encompasses worst to 1 deviation from the norm above mean (because 88% is one deviation from the norm both up and down from the norm plus the bottom range below one deviation, therefore: 1 deviation ~ 37.5%, 37.5 * 2 = 75, 75 + 12.5 = 87.75%). Therefore, it stands to reason that since Bronze - Gold encompasses roughly 60% of the SC2 population, then most (if not all) of the players in the CTL fall within the "needs lots of improvement" metric, and most fall below the mean average for skill. Therefore, gaming race matchups is rather pointless for everyone in our league.

Yes, I was on a losing streak vs. Zerg (curse you Stephano!), but with the "timings" that my opponents were hitting (max out on roaches at 16-18 minutes) it's really my fault that I lost to them, not their relative skill level.

That, and the league is for fun! I prepare for each match by playing a match against a random "very hard" AI, just to warm up my tendons and fingers and turn the SC2 switches in my brain to the "on" position. Matchup is kind of irrelevant.

Finally, if you do allow race switching, I'm going Terran. 1) we need variety, 2) I was in the Marines, and 3) I want a change of pace, and 4) the larvae mechanic is slick on paper, but it hurts my head in game. I'm getting a little tired of magic robots making wierd noises at me when I click on them. I want them to cuss and shoot things. Oh, yeah, and air units totally kill me. I want 50 mineral AA units.

Though without force fields . . . sigh, you can't have everything, where would you put it?

Nice points fire & errant. I see exactly why howlin and the admits implimented the rule though. Maybe a team can put in a request for a single race change over the season to say Zerg to random for example. However it does help stability and less confusion if its locked in and its not like you have to play 1 game a week of said race. More of ace or less if the week off. I see both sides. Good topic. I think the season race lock creates a character in your mind, like Parker the amazing terran! Lol just sayin. Ps sry for typos. Typing on phone.

We're not enforcing specific race-changing rules, if someone wants to change their race they can ask us and we'll update your information. The thing is, we have several reasons for not allowing race-picking: we made the teams based on racial balance; it prevents unfair advantages for the race-pickers; having fixed races allows for some recognition of the players (for example, I can tell by the top of my head that Cracken is zerg, ErrantMind is terran, Daxis is protoss, etc); it makes the process of making player statistics easier; it gives more stability to the league overall, etc.

If there's a big reason why players would want to race-pick before each match, that's fine, we can change that. But for now, we should only allow for players to change races for good. Of course, that doesn't mean that you only have one "race-change" available for the season or something like that, it means that if you want to change race you can. Just tell us.
