CANCELED!! CANCELED!! CANCELED!! CANCELED!! CANCELED!!
TourneyPlay SoCal Sept 24th and 25th 2011
Official Event Site: http://tourneyplay.webhost4life.com/tournaments/TPSoCalEvent.html
I am officially canceling the SC2 part of this event.
I AM SORRY to all of you who hung in there with me on this. I HATE canceling, but it just does not have the registrations to make it worth any of you showing up.
We are possibly changing venues also, to unload some of the Venue Cost Burden, as the Black Ops community which is mostly LA Based is not likely to make a large showing, thus making this event hard to justify. I am still running a Smash Bros and SSF4AE/MvC3 regional event though, so if you are at all into those games, we are still 100% doing that.
I am looking for a South OC venue for an event in November/December, in which I want to do SC2 at, since my monthly event in Seattle is successful, I would like to replicate it down in the SoCal area and do something every 2 months, so I am working on a venue for it.
Again, I am SORRY for all of the trouble and confusion.
Thanks --Chris (GC Guy)
PS - If you had already registered on Galaxy4Gamers, please ask for a Refund from them. If you have problems with them doing it for you, CONTACT ME and I will get on them.
If you paid using the PayPal, I will process those refunds on Wednesday Sept 21st.

Working on sponsors for this event right now.
We will be running the following tournaments: Smash Bros Brawl 1v1 and 2v2 Smash Bros Melee 1v1 and 2v2 StarCraft2 1v1 Super Street Fighter 4 AE 1v1 Marvel vs Capcom 3 1v1 (maybe) Call of Duty Black Ops 2v2 or 4v4
|
Needs more sign ups.
Reg site is still being developed and will be up in a day or so thanks to my friends at Galaxy4Gamers
|
i missed this event last year'ish? (forgot how long the last UCSD tourny was); I will try to make it this time.
|
Please do! Spread the word on this one! This event will be HUGE all in all and I would love to see SC2 presence STRONG at this one!
Registration site will be up any day now. Tech difficulties on it, but almost solved.
|
This sounds like a lot of fun. Will probably be there :D
|
Gonna be there for suuuuuuuuuuure. I might be the only high school student though, lol i hope not.

Pretty cool. If I'm still in town by then it might be cool to watch.
|
Where exactly is this going to be? We have a big SC2 community at UCSD and I'm sure many of us would like to get in on this! I've linked to this thread on the UCSD SC2 facebook group, so a bunch more people know about it now. Also, I'd like to make myself available as an on-site streamer / caster, should you need me. I'll PM you.

yeah how can you post all these details and leave out the most important one (the actual location)?
|
will be entering ucsd as a freshman next month... i'll be there for sure :D
|
Why is the venue so expensive T_T.
|
Pretty awesome initiative, saw your other LAN's through Edward's stream. I will sadly miss his Asian presence.
You might want to get in touch with the UCSD CSL team, they can probably help you out and they're all good manner guys. Should have plenty of seats now that Xeris graduated.
Also, I'd agree it's pretty expensive Any food or drinks that will be provided?

I will get the exact room on here in a couple of days.
I am working with some of th people who help do WGF every year. I am one of the top TOs in the US for Smash Bros, so I know the WGF set up pretty well.
Also pricing changes coming. Will prob $25 ($5 venue, $20 event). I am waiting for final costs of this thing to come in so I can better estimate what I need to charge.
I wanted a bigger "entry fee" to make the Prize worth it. I also have some interest from some of the Seattle area big names to come down if the prize pool is right (Ranged comes to mind).
I will have a LOT more info on this after PAX as I am doing some major sponsorship arranging there.
|
Sounds awesome! Looking forward to hearing more details about the event.

I'm gonna wait for location confirmation.
|
Location is locked in. My contact at UCSD is on vacation, which is the only reason I dont have the room # with me. But I have a map of room and everything. We also secured the 1000 sf room next to it for additional space.
|
Will this be for NA Only or is open for everyone? I live in Baja and is like 40 minutes away from the School.
|
kinda wondering why there's a venue fee when it's BYOC and you're using a school that you don't own
|
I have to pay UCSD for the space, thus a venue fee.
Anyone can come.
|
EAST BALL ROOM is the room
You all need to Pre-Reg though, we CAN NOT take cash/payment at the door.
I will be available Friday night to take some last minute registrations, but just go to G4G and register there.
|
having trouble signing up for this event; everytime i try to enter it it makes me create a new account even though im already logged in on the galaxy4 website.
err nvm tried logging out / back in.
now it says i have to deposit 3$ but when i click on link it says game over.
edit:
went to Money tab on the left nd entered my billing info / CC# / etc..
so now the problem is.. how much do i put in the amount when it says Deposit,
30$ or 3$? if 3$'s theres a charge for a small deposit.
|
I am investigating that issue this weekend.
In the past G4G did not charge anything extra for registrations to my events since their sponsors where rep'ed at the event.
If they are charging extra on top of the event entry, then I will set up an alternate registration process.
|
How are you guys making the brakets for SC2? in registration order? Because it would kind of suck to sign my brother and I and get to play our first match against each other lol.
|
We will have ppl officially sign in when they arrive (not register but check in). We will break ppl into League Level standings (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat, Diamond, etc...) and seed the bracket based on that. We will try our best to not place ppl who road together into a first round match, or even 2nd round if we can avoid it.
|
hm i think those people should get more than 1%. In a 100 man competition thats 1200$ for 1st and 30$ for 9th/10th. thats pretty cold..
|
There is only so many %ages you can pay until you are out of %ages.. its about 100 of them
The fact we are even offering to 10th place is unheard of in a Local or even small Regional. usually we would only pay out to 5th or 6th.
PAYPAL REGISTRATION IS COMING in a day or so.
|
We need UCSD StarCraft2 group to show up BIG to this!
|
any1 from UCSB(santa barbara) plan on going, if so msg me on TL/ingame: brobocop.374. i don't got any1 to carpool w/ .
|
can we come spectate free of charge? not sure how this is all gonna work, but im down to watch some starcraft edit: i mean in person at ucsd, not in game, just for clarification
|
Spectators: So the $10 Spect Fee is for the Smash/SSF4/MvC crowd mostly. True Spectators are FREE
People that want to come and play against others in casual (or Friendly) games, need to pay the $10 Spect Fee as they will be playing as much as anyone in a tournament and using resources we need for the tournament.
|
I want to come to this but sign up is broken . I'm having the same issue as Cuhz...
|
|
This is going to flop hardcore. Sorry, Chris.
EDIT: Let me clarify. I think UCSD has cancelled the event. You might want to talk to the people that helped you reserve the venue.

i agree it's silly i'm just providing a semi-rational-sounding reason :-p I'm more interested in hearing if it's still on based on what thunddr said

What Group Name did you register for the room under?
|
|
|
Dont bother with G4G registrations... they have had some MAJOR issues in showing what is and is not registered. We have about 10ish registered right now between G4G and PayPal. WE NEED MORE THOUGH!!!
Should this be a $25 entry? Will $5 off get more registrations? (I would of course refund in cash at the event those who already registered for $30)
THIS EVENT IS 100% ON!! There were venue issues, AZN_Lep worked through them for me (one of the guys that runs Winter Game Fest) and we got it all tied up. 100% GO GO GO GO
SPECTATOR FEE Issue -- We can not have 50 Smash players show up who pay nothing and use our set ups that we need for tournaments. We have a set # of set ups for SSF4/MvC3/Smash and we need those for the event not for campers to play $0.50 money matches on. Spectator Fee is a NORMAL practice in 99% of console based events.
|
So we have to register through paypal??
And yes 30 is a bit high. I think 25 would be better and get more signups imo

Pat = AZN_Lep GameClucks = Chris/TourneyPlay (in Seattle WA)
What needs to happen to get SC2 ppl to this? I have a decision to make on keeping SC2 or dumping it for another game. I would prefer SC2. I need 30-40 SC2 players to make my goal to cover costs. $25? $20? If I drop it and it only results in 5 more people that does not cut it. Also dropping entry means prize pool goes down a lot also.
I have to decide on this today... as I am down to the wire. I run a successful local in Seattle every month, the goal of this event was to be something bigger then a local.. thus the higher entry.
|
dump it. UCSD already has WGF which is an awesome event and is free
|
Yeah.. I agree that it should be dumped. I live about an hour and a half away and wouldn't consider going to this. Yet, I'm down to drive 3 hours to events that actually has a lot of people + cheaper sign up fee.
|
I'll have to agree that it may be better to abandon SC2 for now. I'm sure if you run the event with lower costs in the future, you will get an awesome turnout. I understand why they're mandatory now, but if it's possible in the future I guarantee it'll have a great response.
|
T_T I wanted to play. If you cancel then next time make sure registration works at the start... I think there could have been a good turnout but no one could register and then people saw like 2 people on the list and didn't want to sign up.
|
Yeah we had some issues with our registration and some last minute venue issues. It was sort of a perfect storm of badness...
Not canceling it yet. Dropped price to $20. Waiting for some info on other events to see what total attendance will be.

I can't register using method 1. it takes me a page that says "Game Over" and redirects me to the homepage.

if the event still goes on; for 20$ i think i could make it,

Also, I didn't mention this at all, but space was going to be a huge issue as well. PC gaming in general takes up a lot of space and if you were going to run 4-5 tournaments...well you're limiting the number of participants you can hold anyway. I needed PC East ALONE to run a SC2 tournament for 108 people.
