Ok maybe not that bad but still, plus, people are gonna talk more when they ARN'T watching starcraft so couple those two factors together and those numbers sound totally reasonable to me. Lets say one fifth of the time was spent playing SC, and discussion doubled during the downtime... that sounds about right. This is a great point. There was a bit too much delay, and taking literally an entire day for 8 Bo3s is a little ridiculous. I agree. Cut the fluff! The few games I did catch today were good, long, exciting games(except for white-ra). NASL needs to realize that their only redeeming factor is the great players at their tournament and tastosis. Everything else is fluff, and the production is sub par to bad. Not that I'm hating on NASL. Ultimately this is good because the players get paid and we still see great games. But I am saying that things really need to change; nobody likes the fluff and the production is by far the worst of any major tournament Yeah, GSL can do 2 GSTL series which are bo7 (with a lot of downtime in between for choosing players and discussing games, breaks etc.) in like 4-5 hours lol.

I feel bad for the players that had to pay to fly in and only get to play one bo3 where they might not have played very well. I totally agree, especially thinking of Ret.
I don't see why there should be no loser's bracket. These players came from all over the world, why shouldn't they play some more games? Time cannot be the problem, since there was no need to cast EVERY game live on stage (considering today's tempo, this indeed would take a week).
But setting up a double elimination format for only 16 players? MLG does this in the open bracket, I really don't understand.

I actually contemplated going to this event and watch/meet and greet live. Glad I didn't if this thing last just over 12 hours with only 16 players. eek!!! I'm sure NASL production will improve, but this was a REAL BAD start for the league if they wanted to legitimize e-sports in the USA. WAY too much downtime.. i feel bad, i can't imagine how the players feel with so much downtime.
I'll continue to check in tomorrow, but if the audio issues and massive downtime aren't fixed.. ;'(

I think the number 1 thing they can do is, as soon as a match is over, get the next players in the booth starting to set up. Do it while the intro movies are playing. That way, they're ready to go.

They had an entire season + playoffs to get to the finals, there's your double elimination, only instead of double it was like quadruple. This doesn't make any sense. So they have to play every week for 9 weeks, and then their reward is to come in and possibly play only 1 bo3?
On a different note, They definitely should have lowered the prize pool and got more production stuff rolling. Koreans really want to go to MLG, not because of the prize pool (where first plays is 10 times less than the NASL's!!!), but for the fans and the amount of fun they have. NASL has it completely opposite. A ton of money for the players, but not that much production value.

I don't know about others but I'm only criticizing NASL in the hope they improve and fix these problems they have and give us another amazing SC2 tournament to rank alongside Dreamhack, GSL and the like. I mean I paid money to support it and I'm not even asking for my money back despite the issues just asking them to fix it for the future.

So I was sort of half watching this event and was under the impression that it was done well enough, but it seems like everyone hated it. Can someone tell me if this is legitimate or is the internet complaining because they always do?
I'm pretty sure MLG Dallas was much worse, but people are acting like NASL just tried to kill their mom.

exactly. take away the pointless intros and have a bo5 that is actually worth it. problem solved.

The NASL does nearly everything wrong.
The only positive things they have are the game itself, tastosis/day9 and of course the price money(which leads to good players). Otherwise nobody would watch this rly bad show.

It was mostly the amount of time between matches. During matches were watchable, though there were sound issues.
Edit: I made a point dozens of pages back about the same thing with MLG Dallas, and this being an extremely negative thread compared to that one. The thought was that people were more distracted during the Dallas LR, with eagle cams and jumping cats memes.

the fact is they had so much downtime they could of fit in alot more games, there was so much breaks it was killing me... why make it best of 3? make it best of 5 atleast.. I mean with so much spare time, why not??

Is there a one single person responsible for this debacle? who is the lead organizer?

Do it exactly like MLG; put the headliner games on the mainstage, and then the other games get played in a different area but are streamed by another caster duo. Problem solved.

Can somebody direct me to the "dark.force new fanboy" thread?

Honestly, this was nothing as bad as MLG Dallas. Sure some sound issues and it took 12 hours (lol that is kind of ridiculous), but at least the games went off pretty flawlessly and the stream was up the entire time.
