Yes, it's disappointing. Yes, it's not being a gentleman. Yes, it's unfair. Yes, it's even cheap! But it's in the god damn game, you can't blame MC for not using everything to win. I get the feeling people are whining because they like to whine instead of actually thinking about all the circumstances and reasons

The production value of this tournament was incredible. I remember 2gd from when he casted wow and quake live and this is the first time I've seen him at an SC2 tournament, I hope there are many more in his future. Guy is a professional.

The thing is, MC can have both.

He could win so much games and tournaments AND be (sometimes) a gentleman.

That would gain him so much more fans and make him even more famous and awesome.

He has won the money, everybody knows that he is able to own and win.
It could be time to show people that he is also a huge baller.

Great GREAT tournament overall! I didn't thought that this small tourney on one day would be that big in the end! So amazing! I dont even know how to put that in words!

THANKS SWEDEN! :D :D :D

People already mentioned it. MC was trying to be a gentleman and provide entertaining games by spotting White-Ra a 2-0 lead by not 4-gating. Can't blame him for playing to win after being 1 loss away from elimination.

Cheese happens. Get over it. Yeah you can say that it didn't entertain you. There is 15k on the line, and cheese was a good finishing move from MC. Props to him.

Personally..I'd kind of like Blizzard to do something along the lines of making warp in possible only in the field of a Warp Prism. To balance that out perhaps Warp Prism would need to be a bit cheaper or so. That'd also give a reason to convert Warp Gates back into normal Gateways (a function which at the moment has little purpose) while making Protoss macro a tad bit more demanding.

Well, not like a scrub like me can make calls on that (and this thread is probably not the right place for that anyway). Just kind of feel I've seen all PvP has to offer today.

Great tournament loved evrything about it. Only sad about the ending of finals and (not really whining but noticing) the fact that protoss just seems to win most of the times when both players play equally good.

Don't post bullshit about how MC needs to cheese to win, or how he doesn't have real skill, because his achievements have already proven that he's one of the best SC2 players in the world.

the guy 4 gates and other all-ins like 50% of the matches. It's 6 months already and i still can't see what's the hype around him.

I think the hype surrounding him is partially due to the fact that his execution and mechanics are generally perfect, which is pretty much why he has such a high success rate when he does play a standard 4gate game like everyone else. He's able to dictate the entire game; he seems to be in charge at all times.

And obviously, plenty of other people play standard half the time too. But when you win most of your games by using any strategy, there's really no reason to change it up too often.

Look, you cannot hate the player, or say he is a bad player because he is cheesing. If MC could win all the time with 4 gate, who gives two cents whether he would get annihilated in a macro game. Thats like saying I am the better golfer because I can drive the ball 350 yards and hit every green. If I three putt all the time and still lose to you I am not better. Period.

Even if MC would lose consistently in a macro game (which isn't the case) what the hell does it matter if he can win before the game becomes a macro game. He has no need to play a macro game, why should he? You cannot argue the results, MC is winning. Alot. If you're going to say MC is bad because you don't think he can win a macro game it doesn't make sense. Last time I checked for any game or sport skill at the top is judged by results. A team might have the strongest players, and the strongest stats, but if they team doesn't perform they still suck. If you say MC sucks because you don't think he has the macro game skills you're basing it on some ridiculous arbitrary criteria that have no grounded basis. You could be the greatest player ever at playing games past the 10 minute mark, but if you lose all the time before then your terrible.

Additonally if MC is so cheesy and not all around strong the word should be out. The prevailing notion in both SC2 and BW is that cheese can't really take you far if other players expect it. If MC is that cheesy, it shouldn't be too big of a deal for other players to start adapting and shutting down his shenanigans, and if he is truly just average in other areas he should struggle. If he doesn't he is either insanely good at his 4 gate, cheese control (which makes him a great player); or he actually has alot of skill at macro games as well.

It's one thing to argue if MC is a complete player. It's another entirely to argue about whether or not he is good, there is literally nothing that supports the claim that MC isn't good.

MC won fair and square. Cheese is part of the game and you play to win yada yada yada , totally agreed. However , this (last game) was not fun. Same way I wouldnt like IdrA to win MC by 6-pooling him I didnt enjoy MC proxy pyloning WR , especially not after those games. Granted , everyone was at the edge of their seats trying to see if WR scouts it , but thats mostly because they wanted him to scout it. I dont mind people liking this and cheering for it/him , but - for me - he didnt show the better player in those matches. I dont care what his record in PvP is , I dont care what his accomplishments are in GSL and the past , in this game we saw WR actually expand in PvP (!!!) and win , sneak probe into his enemies base with his whole army in there and win. Its just something different from the same old PvP 4g v 4g or 3g robo 3g blink etc.

Then again this is a strategy game and he clearly picked the best strategy in the 3 (maybe even 4) out of 5 games of the series. Its just kinda sad that this is what this matchup has turned into. Cut probes - win , expand - lose (most of the time) , basicly 1 base all-ins and cheese is what defines this matchup. Im a fan of blame blizzard not the player so thats excactly what Im doing: fix the god damn PvP matchup - its so damn annoying to watch!

Anyway thats just my oppinion on that feel free to disagree

i didnt like Incontrol proxying TLO @ MLG either, but in retrospec you gotta do what you gotta do. To the viewer it leaves a bitter taste but they are playing to win not to please/entertain us.

I dont disagree on that , I said it. I disagree with the viability of this option being there...

Just because of this conversation, I'm going to spend all day on the ladder doing Proxies and DT Rushes.

Go ahead by all means but it won't improve you as a player which is the point of your practice, isn't it?

Considering I never really bothered to learn how to cheese properly and usually focus on strictly Macro, this WILL be an improvement for me as a player in the sense that I'm expanding my options in any given match-up.

QFT! I never get why people in sc2 hate cheese THAT much in box tournament series. In bw lr threads their is so much hype if someone pulls out a well executed cheese and the defender tries to hang in their. In sc2 lr threads their's just hate.

I think there is a lot of BW like enthusiasm in SC2 also, but there's a very vocal minority and a lot of sheepish followers that think that to HATE or be Disgusted by something makes you interesting, more Powerful. But those negative emotions just give a minor satisfactions and it is, in the end, emotionally very draining. The need for a new Highs of Negative energy is required almost immediately, hence the many negative posts, but let me tell you, You will never be satisfied unless you accept that your powerless. You can't change a thing.

In the contrary, I enjoyed myself, have a big smile on my face and am feeling great and whenever, tomorrow, next week or in a couple of months something reminds me of this tournament I will feel great again. Who's the Winner now.

great series! i'm happy white-ra managed to take 2 games off MC, so epic

he may win the most, but that doesnt make him more skilled than others, he is good at making precise builds and timing attacks other than that, i cant name a thing he is THAT good at.

Ya hes only good at making builds and executing them better than other people, which is only you know... like... most of the game....

His micro is amazing.
His game sense is amazing.
His strategical decisions are pretty amazing.
You don't win 2 GSL's, Dreamhack, etc.. from being some middle of the pack scrub that only knows how to 4gate. 4gating every game doesnt even get you far in Diamond league on friggin ladder, its not gonna win you GSL's. You seem to forget he has to play other matchups, not just PvP, and PvP is based around 1 basing. You people are so god damn hard to please. Its sad seing ppl just qq up and down the street after a really great tournament, and a really great series.

omg thx! i dont understand how ppl can say MC aint good. if it is so easy please go and win all he has won yourself. if it only takes a lil bit of cheese and some 4gating. :D jeez.

Are you trolling? He got severely outplayed in the first 2 games. If MC is "playing to win" why would he give white-ra a 2-0 lead.

Why disagree? It's been in SC1 for what, 13 years now? And it makes for some entertaining spicing of matches. This is not cheese as you get in your ladder games, may look the same but it's nowhere near the same decision process that goes into why it gets performed, stop thinking of WhiteRa as a victim as you once was on ladder, he's not, he's probably banging his head on a wall now for not seeing it or laughing his ass off with MC instead of crying.

May not have been the most visually attractive game in SC2 but I can't remember a more effective cheese or any other game that was decided purely in a mind battle, did even more than 1 probe die that game? Did even 1 probe die that game?.

cheesing on ladder is stupid, but cheesing in the finals of a tournament is ballsy. 100k people watching you take a huge risk. if you lose, you look like a complete ass. if you win, you still look like an ass

IMHO, I think the cheese hatred comes from people wanting to see an epic game for the 5th game of a best-of-5 finals.

i didnt know pvp could have interesting games. i get excited by the stakes, drama, and storylines and less by the game itself. dont get me wrong, i love a great management game but that is incredibly rare and shouldn't be forced or manufactured.

Wow I can't believe there are so many QQers/Blamers for a pro playing to win. And it's a god damn PvP, it always has been like this, we know that it sucks and is boring to both players and fans. What would you do then? Late game PvP isn't much different too. Would you do something just slightly less boring to lose $15k?

Yes its true players play to win. But you shouldn't forget, at the end players are entertainers. That's why they have fans and why TLO seems to always be the fan favourite, he his the best at deviating from boring play. The money for the wins, comes from the viewers. And if viewers don't like what they see, there's no money for players. Some of the fault for boring plays is the players, but the other is of course, the game. If boring play is rewarded through being more effective, then that's we see more.
