Turned the Stream off before the finals had no interest in watching PvP at all. But apart from that the tournament was Amazing, such a good day of Starcraft probably the best I've seen so far. 2gd should definitely get more gigs after this so much better than the usual awkward hosts and interviewers and they definitely set the standard for production.

People need to realize that this is a job for players, this is how they make money for living, by winning.
They are not playing the game for fun or entertainment.

Hell if i was in the finals and having the chance to win 15k$, id play as dirty as possible.. Id even go and like take out the batteries or spill some soda over opponents keyboard, or basically do anything that might give me an edge over the opponent.

Of course they will do whatever it takes to win and cheese counts as a win as much as a 40 min long macro game.
In the end the guys and sponsors that pay the checks dont care that the winner won by cheese or long macro games, they care that by his name theres a number 3 and by opponents is a number 2.
Also trophies, medals nor money dont care if u won them by cheese or not, neither if u deserved them or not.

I was actually pissed off for the first time watching a game tournament after all those years of doing so. I mean I probably shouldnt post here since this post is full of blind fanboyism but hey , here goes.

MC won fair and square. Cheese is part of the game and you play to win yada yada yada , totally agreed. However , this (last game) was not fun. Same way I wouldnt like IdrA to win MC by 6-pooling him I didnt enjoy MC proxy pyloning WR , especially not after those games. Granted , everyone was at the edge of their seats trying to see if WR scouts it , but thats mostly because they wanted him to scout it. I dont mind people liking this and cheering for it/him , but - for me - he didnt show the better player in those matches. I dont care what his record in PvP is , I dont care what his accomplishments are in GSL and the past , in this game we saw WR actually expand in PvP (!!!) and win , sneak probe into his enemies base with his whole army in there and win. Its just something different from the same old PvP 4g v 4g or 3g robo 3g blink etc.

Then again this is a strategy game and he clearly picked the best strategy in the 3 (maybe even 4) out of 5 games of the series. Its just kinda sad that this is what this matchup has turned into. Cut probes - win , expand - lose (most of the time) , basicly 1 base all-ins and cheese is what defines this matchup. Im a fan of blame blizzard not the player so thats excactly what Im doing: fix the god damn PvP matchup - its so damn annoying to watch!

Anyway thats just my oppinion on that feel free to disagree

i didnt like Incontrol proxying TLO @ MLG either, but in retrospec you gotta do what you gotta do. To the viewer it leaves a bitter taste but they are playing to win not to please/entertain us.

I dont disagree on that , I said it. I disagree with the viability of this option being there...

Just because of this conversation, I'm going to spend all day on the ladder doing Proxies and DT Rushes.

Go ahead by all means but it won't improve you as a player which is the point of your practice, isn't it?

If "cheesing" is clearly the best way to play a matchup (like PvP), then practicing it will definitely improve you as a player. After all, skill is measured by how much you win.

You play sports to win, doesn't matter who's better or more entertaining. In the end, only the winner and prize money is all that counts.

Taking nothing away from either player, purely from a fan / spectator standpoint, game five was a fizzle to an overall bang of a tournament.

This is how I feel. But apparently on the Internet you are not allowed to be disappointed that game 5 of a tied bo5 series in a finals worth $15k between the 'best player in the world' and 'the best foreigner in the world' ends at 3 minutes because of a 2 gate.

That's because you don't get it.

You don't get it, that's freeking super dupper intelligent to 3 gate blink all in / 4gate rush / proxy on the last 3 game of a final. The reality is: MC could not win PvP against White-Ra in a straight maccro game / high tech oriented play (robo) so he decided he would cheese 3 games in a row and win with his superior army control / game sense. He deserved it, but the game is dumb if you can win 3 time in a row at that level of play with such nonsense 10 years old build order.

The game is so dumb that MC is hands down the most dominating player, even though he only relies on rushes (the way he executes his rushes is impressive nevertheless). Considering his playstyle, I don't expect his domination to last much longer. People will figure out ways to deal with him/the game will get patched, and then the solid players will start to shine. At least that's what I hope.

Definitely the best pvp series I've ever seen,

Game 1 - White ra with the hero probe

Game 2 - MC just missed that timing where the nexus was building and the colossus wasn't out, I feel if he didn't go for blink he could have won if he attacked sooner

Game 3 - Crevasse is almost as bad as scrap station when it comes to 4 gating, no other options

Game 4 - MC gains that crucial early advantage and presses it with amazing micro

Game 5 - CHEEEEEESSSSSSEEEEE

Definitely entertaining if albeit short :D

I'm sure I'm not the first person to write it since theres 580+ pages.... but...

If White-Ra had won Game 5 the same way, people would be sucking him off in this thread for having such big balls instead of crucifying MC for doing the same thing.

I think people have to understand, MC only cheesed in one of those games. in a b05.

That's just a smart thing to do.

Players whining about 4 gating, proxy rax, etc, really need to acquaint yourselves with the matchup. These strategies are essentially standard, you should scout and expect them. That is how bad the PvP matchup is right now. Don't blame the player for cheese, Blame the matchup. MC barely cheesed at all, because the strategies he did, which might be cheese if it was against Zerg or Terran, is standard in PvP

He is such a nice and friendly dude, married and from east like me, so he realy need that money.
But cant have it all, he won many cups, got good sponsor and job as well not including sc2.
Hope he will be better everyday.

The thing is, MC can have both.

He could win so much games and tournaments AND be (sometimes) a gentleman.

That would gain him so much more fans and make him even more famous and awesome.

He has won the money, everybody knows that he is able to own and win.
It could be time to show people that he is also a huge baller.

Great GREAT tournament overall! I didn't thought that this small tourney on one day would be that big in the end! So amazing! I dont even know how to put that in words!

THANKS SWEDEN! :D :D :D

People already mentioned it. MC was trying to be a gentleman and provide entertaining games by spotting White-Ra a 2-0 lead by not 4-gating. Can't blame him for playing to win after being 1 loss away from elimination.

Are you trolling? He got severely outplayed in the first 2 games. If MC is "playing to win" why would he give white-ra a 2-0 lead.

He was obviously trying to entertain the foreigner biased fans. He only 4-gated when he was about to lose the series.

All-ins add an exciting variety to the game. I thought the last game was quite exciting, watching White-Ras probe just barely miss vision of the pylon.

Macro games are not always more entertaining. If players agree to no rush 15 that would be boring and they might as well be playing BGH.

But imagine that White-Ras's late scout would spot the pylon. Or wouldnt scout the wrong base first. Or that he would place his 2nd pylon at the ramp (and scout the gates).

I understand you, I was "OH the scout misses the pylon!". Then "OMG he scouts the wrong base". Then "Oh yeah also pylon at the back". It was clearly over by then.
If White-Ra would've have scouted the pylon or the the correct base he would have had time to react.
And I bet a great micro battle with shitton of tension would've occured.

I dont say there was no excitement in that game. I say there could've been more excitement

Overall (disregarding MC/Idra game2) this "Dreamhack" was awesome.
Good games, great production value, nice interviews, awesome casters, and an AWESOME host (first time I ever heard of 2GD but he instantly won my heart (he also won the heart of many of my friends)).
Easily on par with GSTL. (And I seriously cannot decide which tournament was better).

I just got home from this event. I went there not expecting much more than some good games with wait times and whatnot as usual with these kind of streamed tournaments. Oh how wrong I was!

Mind=Blown

Everything was just awsome and the 7 hours I was there really flew away.

NASL just got a guide on how to host a tournament.

To Hot_Bid and all you other well educated SC fans.

Im a casual viewer. I watch some GSL, maybe TSL if I find the time. I dont play SC2 at all actually, even though I did play for a few months when it was released. I feel like im a good example of a "noobish casual viewer" and part of a crowd that the E-sport and SC2 scene really wants to get more viewers from. Now I do understand that for you that final game was really smart and all, but for me that didnt happen. And if SC2 want to make it bigtime I think they/we/production/casters need to find ways to make cheese like that feel just as epic as a 40min slugfest.

Im loling so hard at the MC haters. Just do me a favour allright.. imagine being in his shoes for a while (I understand it must be difficult since he is a winner but at least try). Wouldnt you do whatever needs to be done to get the money and the win? Im not implying he would lose to WhiteRA in a macro game, MC was by far and away the best player in that tournament in all aspects, im just saying cheese is in the fking game get used to it already.

The guy had just lost the first 2 games of a bo5, was so stressed out by the possibility/almost reality of being thrown out of the tournament from a lesser opponent and what does he do? give in to a quick 0-3, go back to the hotel room and cry it out? Nope, hes too BALLSY for that. First manages to micro like a god in games 3, 4 and then takes a huge risk in the freekin FINAL DECISIVE GAME going for that proxy and pulls it out flawlesly.

I mean solid as in a well rounded, macro player. Like MVP if you want. I never denied the fact that MC is currently the best player in the world.
