Ever heard of modesty? Or he said it because even they have the same mindset of all the "cool kids" here on TL and get flamed like the rest of us for even suggesting the koreans arent untouchable just because everyones so used to BW where nonkoreans didnt have half the opportunities to play profesionally and seriously like they do now in sc2. I have no doubt that the koreans went into the day not taking it too seriously because they just thought theyd own, but that was their mistake and it doesnt mean they "didn't try" during the actual games. Ive never heard of professionals wanting to lose to people who are viewed as inferior to them, they might underestimate but they try to win obviously because it looks even worse on them if they lose.

and no one's that fricking modest, come on

No one wants to lose, least of all on TV but if, for example, you have a super secret strategy you've been saving you sure as hell aren't going to use it in a "for fun" showmatch days before you play a big money tournament against the same group of players. wasn't NaDa known for being awesome at macroing but also being able to execute all-ins quite perfectly?
Im trying to find a point in your statement. The reason NaDa wasnt able to execute his all-in perfectly was because of TT1's cannon and great ability to nullify NaDa's banshee harass. Not because he wasn't taking it seriously.
|
To ONLY reason Nada went all in is because he lost his banshee, HE WAS DOING A STANDARD BANSHEE OPENING IN TO EXPO, LOSES HIS FIRST BANSHEE, MAKES A SNAP DECISION THAT IF HE EXPOS HE WILL BE WORLDS BEHIND AND GOES ALL IN. That was not his play from the beginning it was his only choice after going banshee and doing very little damage vrs a toss that already has an expo up and yours isn't even started. Stop complaining about the Koreans not trying everyone is out there to have fun, its no different that pro league all stars, when only pride is on the line. Its supposed to be fun and all you guys do is bitch and complain about one thing or another.
I had a great time watching this event, and im super syked for tonight.

I like how the Huk seems to be well-liked among the Korean guys.

I'd like to reiterate that nobody here is trying to make excuses for the Koreans. People are speculating on statements that OUR OWN FOREIGNERS made in the interview. And like I said before, it could be that our own foreigners are just humble as hell, but I don't think they'd downplay their wins like that if they actually thought the Koreans were being serious.

I hope the Korean team is taking it seriously. I'd be fucking pissed if I flew halfway across the world to play and my opponents weren't trying their best.

It seems to me 'not taking the event seriously' is a cover up excuse for 'severely underestimating the world team.'
This mindset seems pretty evident, especially in the case of MarineKing.
PS Mega LOLZ at all the TT1 bashing before his games.

It honestly feels that the foreigner community is putting korean pro gamers on a pedestal. If the koreans lose in an online tournament than it's latency, "I mean no way koreans could lose to foreigners, just wait till it comes to a LAN setting". GSL World Championships comes along, "The koreans weren't trying, if this were BW then the koreans would dominate. SC2 is too easy blah blah blah..."
In the early stages of BW the skill gap between koreans and foreigners wasn't actually that bad because no one knew what the hell they were doing, relatively speaking. As the game progressed the koreans pulled ahead because of the amount they practiced, the culture surrounding the game and the opportunities for them. Same thing starts with SC2, the skill gap is quite close and if history repeats itself the koreans will eventually become these untouchable gosus that foreigners dream of beating. However foreigners have become proactive in keeping up this time around, the ROOT pro house, MLG/NASL/IGN PL/TSL all the sponsorships and exposure to the foreigner world, and players are practicing a ton more and understand what must be done to become top tier players. That understanding and execution wasn't present in BW and that's why the foreigners fell so far behind. Sure SC2 is a lot less mechanically demanding than BW, but is that really a bad thing? Should you have to play like a machine to be good at a "strategy" game? Is it really sooooo bad that a RTS becomes focused on strategy? This game is still developing and the foreigner community is developing right along side of it and gaining on the koreans in a new game.

Apparently so... People really should read posts more thoroughly instead of seeing the words "Koreans weren't being serious" and posting bitter knee-jerk posts about making excuses.

If I stomped 4 Koreans, I too would think that they weren't taking it serious, but than again that doesn't mean that it's true and I could just as well be damn impress with myself to believe what I did was true. Which in this case I'm referring to Sen.

Nada's all in was because he was one base behind and would have lost without it. San's carrier play was a complete surprise for sen and put him offbalance so as much as it is not a normal strategy it worked great. The others all played strategies that you see them play very commonly in GSl tournies. Maybe they didn't train seriously for this, but how much can training help when you don't know your opponents that well. They still play a lot either way.
In short, the world won those games and they did it against a korea team who WAS trying. They have too much pride to go out and lose. They can do better and I'm sure that will be seen but I am sure the world can too.

Regardless of how this showmatch does, I don't think any of these korean stars want to be seen losing to anyone. All questions will be answered in the real tournament.
