TeSPA hosted its first Starcraft 2 tournament in November, 2010. The overall tournament was warmly met by both the community and participants. 64 participants battled it out for the cash prize pool of $700 USD. Notable names included the like of EG.Strifecro, ZpuX, and more.

Given the success of it's first tournament, TeSPA has decided to raise the stakes to make this tournament even more successful. We requested feedback on the tournament, and the participants provided accordingly. We have listened to both the compliments and criticism, and have taken the necessary steps to ensure that this tournament will be as exciting, entertaining, and well-run as possible.

What to Bring:
All players must bring their own:
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Headphones
- Ethernet Cable (2-3 ft)

This is a “bring your own computer event”, BYOC. It is strongly recommended that you bring your own computer. In the case you cannot we will attempt to provide one for you, however cannot provide more than 2-3. Rest assured the tournament location will be secure and tournament staff will monitor all exits, while having a system in place to keep track of entering and exiting technology. With that said, TeSPA is not liable for any damages or losses at the event. If you damage another individual’s property (intentionally or accidently) you will be held responsible.

Housing:
It is highly recommended to make plans to stay in Austin the night before the tournament. Feel free to reply to this thread to find other participants that may be making the trip to Austin. No housing will be provided on campus.

Parking:
We are currently working with the campus parking and transportation to secure special parking passes for the tournament. We will also provide a map of encouraged parking locations around campus before the tournament. We will post more information as it becomes available.

Prize Pool:
The prize pool for the event is estimated based on expected participants. Although TeSPA aims to achieve this prize pool, it is ultimately subject to change if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions:
We encourage questions throughout the thread, which we will attempt to answer in a timely manner.

The room is still being finalized. At the very least we will have the event in the same room as last time which comfortably held 64+ spectators. This is reserved as our backup. We are working to secure a new venue in the brand new student activity center. Don't worry that we are working to secure the very best venue and experience possible.

Do winners from the last tournament have any reserved seeds for the LAN? Because it's my memory that the top 8 people would be seeded

to ensure good/interesting/balanced games i suggest:
MLG Xel naga Cavs
MLG Metalopolis (no close by ground spawns)
MLG Shat Temple (no close by ground spawns)
MLG shakuras plat (only cross spawns)
MLG/ICCup Testbug
GSL Crossfire
GSL taldarim Altar
GSL terminus re
Typhoon Peaks (prlly the best map from the new map pool)

that totals 9 maps, therefore, each party can veto 1 map if the finals is a bo7... if its a bo5 then both individuals can veto 2 maps.

Thanks for the input about the map pool. We are definitely open to suggestions and will be looking into possible updates to the map pool in the coming days. We'll be sure to update here as soon as anything changes.

As for seeding, you are correct ExO - apologies for not mentioning that in the main post. As we promised last time, the top eight players from the last tournament will be seeded. I'll be updating the original post later in the evening to reflect exactly how this works.

I agree the map pool could be better, at least get rid of backwater gulch, slag pits and delta quadrant so we can have a balanced map pool. MLG map pool is quite good I'm quite a fan.

Very good points guys and thanks for the suggestions. We haven't discussed the map pool in detail internally, but we will get right on that as soon as possible.

As a fellow gamer, I will ensure that the map pool is as balanced as possible considering we have many, many choices to choose from this semester.

I look forward to seeing you guys in the brackets!

Edit: Acutally I have a question for you guys. Would you guys really prefer MLG maps over the Blizz maps? People may have certain strategies that they have prepared based on the Blizz map, but when they get into the tournament, they will realize that certain strategy doesn't work because the map has been changed.

I, myself, have not looked at the MLG maps, so would this be a problem?

The MLG maps are less cheesy. They get rid of close position spawns and also have the ramps unblockable with pylons or bunkers. So they are the same maps except less all innish and harder to cheese so I definitely would prefer them. Never played testbug although it is used in ESL or so I hear.

Love the size of that prize pool. Everything seems to be more in line and better in general. Other then the map pool, I am loving it.

Wow, it's amazing and I'm truly jealous of how many SC2 events are held in the Dallas/Austin area. Good luck to ExO, TriMaster, & CuN if they play!

Thumbs up to this pool suggestion.

I may even sign up if the maps are made to something non-terribad.
