It's his 3rd GSL season. But still an awesome job of getting RO4.
Now all he has left to do is help MC win against Rain
Were people really surprised at the mass forcefield push in game 2? I knew it was likely he would attempt it, as it works very well against bunker-expand builds. It's not like we've never seen it before, have people already forgotten the NonY v PainUser game in MLG Dallas? (though since the game didn't count due to some silly mistake, I'm not sure if we can even see it again, too bad for those who missed it)
Still, I was expecting a 4-0 or 4-1 this series, not too surprising. Even though Jinro played solid games throughout the tournament, him being in BoxeR's bracket, on top of some luck in the match results (Polt beating BoxeR, choya over IdrA/mvp), gave him the easiest path to the RO4 by far.
Many people (likely those who play races other than terran) have been pointing at Jinro as the example to show us that, "see, Terran CAN play macro!" But this is the result when it's attempted against someone who knows how to stop it. The threat of heavy early aggression / 1-base play is what keeps Terran from being overrun later in the game, they cannot play passively and win.
As for what Jinro could have done better, I'd say... a banshee rush would have worked well in most games, as MC never built a Robo (or he may have in 2, but it would've been late). Early aggression would have helped, pushing with 2-3 units (marine/marauder with conc shells), wasting MC's sentry energy and keeping the unit count low. Even if Jinro drew the games out longer, though, if he played like he did during the choya series I don't think he had much of a chance.

I logged on just to post that tweet. I'm very curious. The fact that he says it's a surprise for foreign viewers tickles my fancy. GSL for foreigners only?!?!?!?!
That's an awful idea. I'm betting on interviews and honors for 3/4. Maybe a match for 3rd place. That'd be awesome.
I wish people would stop this immense bullshit of "He's just superior"... there is nothing like superior in SC2, every GSL has proven this by having huge differencials in who win and loses.
From what I have seen, it depends on the new strategies that have yet not been countered properly, Maps, People for some reason chocking and or repeating stupid mistakes (Haypro, IdrA) Not making choices you'd expect from a pro player (NesteA not holding his expansions, building 1 or no spinecrawler)
As I see it there hasn't been anyone in the top 8 that couldn't had a shot at winning, now you might cry faul but seriously no one expected Nestea or Fruitdealer to win when they started, heck no one knew them, no one knew Rain or Hongoyn either. I hate Rain to be truthfull, but I can not blame him for doing what it takes to win, and it would be naive of me not expecting him to have a fighting chance to win against MC when he won against Nestea.
MC might be a better player overall, and I hope he wins, but Rain has a chance; There is always a chance. I just wish JinrO had thought the same.
TLDR; Stop acting like there is a science behind SC2, if people like Day9 or Tasteless who has spent over 11 years on this shit can't call winners by even close proximety I doupt anyone can, and saying things like they're not only opinions but truths make you look like a smug douche imo. Just an opinion thought.

Bets anyone? I'm gonna bet on honorary stuff for 3/4th place this season.
Not sure, I'd think it would have to be announced very soon...or at least Jinro/HongUn would have to be made aware.

I personally find it sad that people can't see the different in player skills when they watch the games. If you can't identify skillful play and appreciate those moments, it removes alot what is fun about watching these games For example, the difference in OGS MC's void ray attacks and HongUn's are light and day even if they both had reached the same stages in the GSL. Protoss is definitely the race where player skill matters the most.
Jinro played amazing and im happy that of all the players to beat him that it was MC.I cant say im disappointed at all, ro4 is incredible. Hope to see more foreigners follow :D. Congrats Jinro on making it that far!
Dunno, it seems to me that the thread explodes in anger when a player gets owned for their quality of games played... but when Jinro gets rolled, it was because the other player had "Godlike" hands... dunno maybe im just a nub that thinks any player that gets owned 3 times in a row with 1 little push... perhaps mc read him like a book cuz of the many hours of practice but isn't that practicing supposed to refine your weakness and set up a strategy?
How can you keep calling him "Jinro" and asking "why are people being so nice when he lost?" But then ignoring his clan tag... Liquid... he best damn well get gentle treatment... he is a friggin hero on his team's website and he just lost a top 4 match against the guy who will probably win.
I think its incredibly amazing that a foreigner made it to the round of 4 in the 3rd GSL. Which has had by far the stiffest competition. I definitly think he should be proud of himself. On top of that, I think 3-4th place is still like a 12,000$ price isnt it?
Speaking purely as a spectator, the short 6~10 minute games are awful and boring to watch. I'm never really excited or worried when I see some one lose to 3-4 units. I really think the game shines when the match's hit that 3 base macro point where production is in full gear and players start utilizing more then just 1 or 2 different types of units and tactics.
Looked to me that MC just knew where Jinro's softspots were. I prefer long games, but you got to give credits for knowing an opponents weaknesses so well.
The finals will be dreadful. PvT is completely broken from a spectator point of view. Either it is rush coinflip, OR, it will be a longer game where it is Ball vs Ball moving around with the same speed trying to find the best position to attack. I feel Blizzard strongly need to make PvT more interesting to watch, since now even the mirrors are more interesting.
Keep in mind this is not balance I am talking about, for all I care Stalkers could have a special nuke the whole map-ability, as long as it is interesting to watch.
But if I were the Terran I would do my best to cheese a win in the first 5 minutes, since the longer the game goes the less my chances of winning are, so probably no match will go past 8 minutes. Where are the days where I sat astounded of how impossibly good the players were, knowing I could never do what they are doing?
Blizzard must do balance changes, not to balance the game, but to force PvTs to be worth to watch.

I would say PvT (before the patch changes that made TvZ more interesting) was the most dynamic matchup. Yeah, it will probably by 1base timings for the finals, but if they get past that into longer sets...I don't think justifying it as a Ball v Ball in macro positioning is really the same thing....I mean Blizzcon's Loner v Genius had probably two of the best PvT sets ever played (of course on Xel Naga), and Dreamhack's Naama and MaNa had another two or three amazingly played sets as well.
