Bets anyone? I'm gonna bet on honorary stuff for 3/4th place this season.

Anyone know how jinro could have won?

The question isn't how Jinro could have won those matches against MC, the question is:

Was what MC was doing in the respective matches supposed to absolutely crush what Jinro was doing?
What other viable and stable options were there for Jinro to open up against MC, and why did he choose to do what he was doing rather than any of those other openers/builds?
Is what Jinro was doing supposed to be labeled as defunct given what a Protoss such as MC can do, or was the build of MC specifically meant to counter only what Jinro was doing and a small sub-set of other builds in the respective matches and would've fared poorly against many other builds?

From my perspective I just don't see any amount of micro saving Jinro in the first 3 matches. In the first and 3rd matches I can accept Jinro losing, given the great pressure in game 1 (Jinro could've handled it slightly better) and the fact that Jinro expanded in the 3rd whereas MC saved it all up for what I suppose only protoss is consistently able to do (since they can reinforce the front with warp in, reducing or negating the advantage of defending). In the 2nd game I'm just marveled at how incredibly effective those early sentries turned out to be, and with MC putting down an expand of his own and still being able to completely crush Jinro I feel absolutely mortified for Jinro. I don't see any reasonable (stable) alteration of Jinro's play there that could have saved him. And I don't know if I'm supposed to believe that MC is simply so much better than Jinro that it's reasonable for him to be able to play similarly to Jinro (expand and mass up units for a reasonably fast attack, no excess teching slowing either player down) and not only win, but completely roflstomp him.

There may have been completely different builds that Jinro could have used that would've worked, and probably have been pretty stable as well, but I don't see that what Jinro was doing in game 2 is supposed to be so weak and fragile that a comparable build (macro and tech-wise) can simply run over it with good forcefields.

Or is there something magical about MC that makes him so much more powerful? Is he an alchemist that turns his minerals into gold minerals? I'm sad to say it but to me it seems more likely that it's some slight balance issue that MC is better making use of than most other protoss players. Forcefields maybe?

Oh, and sorry for the overly long post...

Jinro should've pulled out one of the standard Terran cheeses like Banshee rush, bunker rush, or SCV all-ins. In fact, the only game that was close today was when he did just that (Thor rush).

Today's pattern: Jinro expands first --> Lose

My point exactly. All he could have done is cheese. (Or does anyone have a better answer?) He didn't have a chance in a standard game, but I simply can't accept the fact that MC is that much better that he supposed to crush Jinro in game 2 mainly because of "amazing forcefields" (which for a top-tier player like MC is pretty much the standard forcefield use). Is "amazing forcefields" supposed to be über alles?

I'm new to watching the GSL my first season to watch it. I'm just wondering do they play matches for 3rd place? I really like Jinro's play and it would be nice to see him against HongUnPrime.WE.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but after waking up in the middle of the night to watch the games I'm kind of hooked and it would be awesome to see a 3rd place match.

Before the game people (in the know) generally believed MC was slightly better at this point in time than Jinro and that his PvT is extremely strong.

Why are so many people confused or claiming that Jinro couldnt win unless he used cheese?

MC is just superior, as much as it pains me to say it.

Jinro was not aggressive enough, he did not build enough marauders lol.

I think Jinro should have applied some early pressure and basically get more units before expanding. MC was pretty vulnerable before he got warp gate tech and a number of stalkers. If Jinro attacked he would have defended well with sentries and zealots but it would have kind of made MC's attack come longer and later. In game 3, the reaper somehow didn't see the stargate? Was it too early? Against Choya it was that reaper that scouted DT's and made him prepared against them.

Basically MC plays aggressively in the opening, if it doesn't win outright he still transitions well. To play aggressively in the opening you need more units than your opponent has and to defend it well you need as much units as your opponent has and position well. Basically I feel the timings of MC and the way he micro's just were too strong. Marineking couldn't apply his own aggression when MC was being aggressive but still the one who was more aggressive won in the end. I guess you need to be aggressive and active against this type of play. The foreign style of play is pretty much I'm gonna macro up .. you also macro up and we will clash in midgame and see who wins there. In Korea, it's more like I will try to kill you early .. if you surivive I will kill you later. And usually, not many survive. It's when those 2 mentalities and styles clash we see a macro game in korea ( eg kyrix vs marine king and MC vs marineking game 4 ).

Basically what I'm trying to say is .. you have to nullify aggression with aggression either defensively or attacking first .. when those to cancel each other out .. it transitions to midgame and lategames. Otherwise it just doesn't get to that stage of the game.

With this in mind, I feel we will see some good games from MC and Rain .. both have got that early aggression, timing attack mindsets and if they can cancel each other's early aggresion out we will see Macro games but if not, we will see early wins. That's just how thing's are rolling with their playstyles. It's the state of the game.

Since MC plays with the Liquid guys he will probably do some tribute to them. Anway:

Called it.

Sure Jinro had an amazing run with fantastic games, but in my opinion his opponents was mediocre at best. MC put a brutal end to the Cinderella-story, much to my delight (not that I don't like Jinro, I just don't want a mirror in the finals and I want the better player in there too).

Overall I agree with you, I just think that game 2 shouldn't have been that one-sided. MC didn't do anything special that game, other than nifty fast sentries and good control and macro (and probably being on top of what Jinro was doing, so he knew if banshees would come). I'm completely fine with him winning with that attack, but not so overwhelmingly.

Someone else pointed out that ghosts would've been good, and I would really like it if ghosts became a staple unit in the TvP match-up even before HT need to be dealt with. But personally I feel like they eat into a Terrans economy too much for it to be used that widely. Maybe if ghost cloaking was cheaper to research, but alas I shouldn't get started on balance changes.

You can't really, because if the protoss goes collosus you are screwed.
