Hi everybody, I'm live at the event here on Day 3 at NY Comic Con. I just made this thread so I can give people who aren't concerned about spoilers some insight on today's matches. The third place match between HuK and drewbie will not be streamed, so I will try to do some live updates for that series.
The finals between qxc and Fenix will begin at or around 2:30 PM EDT and will be streamed at the usual ESL TV location.
Third place match Game 1 (I only have HuK's perspective, as the game is not being shown on the big screen.):
HuK spawns bottom left on Blistering Sands against drewbie in the top right. HuK is going for fast carriers, getting a fleet beacon before even expanding. drewbie hasn't really poked in with any units yet. A mothership is being warped in and HuK is in control of both Xel'Naga towers.
Results (SPOILERS OF COURSE, DON'T CLICK BELOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE RESULTS.)
HuK is expanding at his natural, killing scouting marines as drewbie sends them. The mothership will be arriving before the Nexus is completed. HuK also has three warp gates and a small mix of tier 1 units. drewbie scanned HuK's main and for sure saw the Mothership being warped in. The mothership is now out.
Drewbie appears to have been cranking out MMM in response, he floated a factory over HuK's natural as well, so he's got good vision of what he's doing. HuK is moving across the middle of the map and pursuing drewbie into his natural area. Mass stalkers, sentries, and a mothership are knocking on drewbie's natural, which is still being built. HuK forces the CC to float back into the main.
Vortex goes down and drewbie drops the rest of his MMM into it so he doesn't lose anything. SCV's are pulled, vortex ends and the mothership is destroyed. Stalkers and sentries are thinned out and eventually destroyed. Drewbie holds the attack and floats back to his natural. HuK drops two more gateways at his natural after the attack ends.
Drewbie is still scouting with his factory, dropping vikings in HuK's main mineral line well pressing the front natural base with MMM. HuK seems to be on the ropes, with mostly zealots and probes being pulled. drewbie is retreating down the ramp but has cleared HuK's natural. Drewbie presses back up with solely MMM and thins out the rest of HuK's workers and most of his zealots. Another mothership is being warped in so HuK can't rebuild workers. It looks grim for him.
(They are not casting it here, I'm trying my best to text cast haha)
HuK is down to only two probes and drewbie is mining off of at least two bases. Mothership #2 has shown up but HuK only has 8 or 9 zealots to escort it across the map over to drewbie's natural. He's at 29 food with a mothership. HuK shows up at the natural of drewbie only to gg before encountering drewbie's huge MMM ball. drewbie is up 1-0.
HuK scouts drewbie with his probe, drewbie still doesn't know exactly where HuK is. HuK looks to be going more standard this time around, but who knows?
drewbie scouts HuK with his scv, HuK is holding the right side Xel'Naga tower. drewbie moves out of his base with 2 marines and a marauder, just to kill HuK's scouting probe. He goes back up his ramp. drewbie sends a scouting factory. HuK is building a fleet beacon again.
Carrier is being built at HuK's solitary stargate. drewbie landed his scouting factory and built one hellion to scoot around HuK's base. HuK is building one carrier at a time and expanding at his natural. He's got two warpgates. A flashbang went off on the Counterstrike finals behind drewbie and HuK and HuK says "aaaahh lights" in the game chat. First carrier is out and shooting depots, then returns home quickly.
drewbie has not expanded at his natural, but looks like he is starting to build a CC now. He is pressing HuK's natural with a sizeable MMM force against a small tier 1 mix and a single carrier. The natural is taken out completely, HuK FF's his ramp and drewbie seems to just be waiting for it to expire. He has several medivacs, so could begin cliff ferrying if he wants. Two carriers are picking off depots in drewbie's base, but nothing gets destroyed before the carriers are sent home. Drewbie drops a ton of MMM and pushes the ramp with a few more. HuK only has 2 carriers alive, pulling probes. Drewbie is mowing them down and HuK gg's before any carriers die. Drewbie is up 2-0.
Map 3 is about to start on Metalopolis. HuK spawns at the bottom position and drewbie spawns on the right side. Close running positions. Being down 2-0, I have to wonder what HuK will try to do to save the series.
HuK scouts drewbie first and begins bothering with his probe. Both players appear to b doing their very standard openings. HuK is sending a lone zealot over to drewbie's ramp, with his scouting probe. A single marine and single marauder are out, HuK loses his zealot.
drewbie gets up HuK's ramp with two marauders and a marine, HuK holds with a stalker, zealot, and some pulled probes. HuK has 2 gateways up, and drewbie has a barracks and factory. drewbie scans and sees HuK's base. A robotics facility is building, drewbie scanned it. HuK canceled after the scan ended and built a stargate in its place.
drewbie has a starport already and three barracks, though he might still be a bit surprised by HuK's tech switch. Neither player has expanded yet. drewbie seems to be sticking with what works: MMM.

Nobody gives a shit about 3rd place, so he might as well have fun with the game. Imagine if he won. It would legendary, just like his previous mothership rush against drewbie.
Phoenixes are being queued in HuK's lone stargate, drewbie scouted with his factory yet again. Stalker/phoenix combo for HuK against MMM for drewbie. Still no major fights yet. drewbie appears to be moving with mass marines, banshees, and a raven. HuK holds it with his many phoenixes and hefty stalker count. drewbie is on the run back to his main and HuK is picking them off with graviton beams. HuK arrives at drewbie's main with his 6 phoenixes and 8 or so tier 1 units. drewbie pulls all his scvs and only hasmarines to protect against this counter.
HuK pokes in and out with his ground units while lifting and killing scvs with his phoenixes. 5 phoenixes are still alive poking in and out. HuK is expanding at his natural during this grace period where drewbie is thinned out. drewbie's scouting factory finally explodes. HuK is still cranking out gateway units and drewbie seems to have abandoned banshees in favor of more medivacs. drewbie is trying to expand at his natural, when HuK shows up again with phoenixes. He kills a couple of units and heads home.
Scan goes down at HuK's natural and drewbie presses in with marines and medivacs. A colossus is out for HuK among lots of zealots and stalkers. HuK seems to have switched gears now that drewbie was switched to mass marine. HuK is up at drewbie's natural thinning out drewbie's marines, and drewbie calls gg as the last of his forces are killed. drewbie still leads, now 2-1.
Map 4 is now starting, HuK spawns at the top right of Steppes of War, drewbie in the bottom left. HuK is busy typing to drewbie about his super sneaky swap from robo facility to stargate. drewbie says HuK is "bm, so sneaky."
HuK scouts drewbie with his usual bothersome probe. Both players are sticking to their various very standard builds. HuK has his "ghosts" hoodie on and looks to be a little more focused than he was earlier. Right before game 1 with drewbie, HuK was playing some practice matches and lost to both iCCForever (a protoss ladder player) and Gretorp, who was playing from the exhibition area while standing up.
Anyway, back to the game. HuK is getting a second gateway and a robotics facility.
HuK has been churning out stalkers while expanding at his natural. The robo facility has created two immortals before the robo bay was completed, and two colossus are now out on the field. HuK scouted drewie early with an observer but drewbie killed it with scan/marines. drewbie has his natural expo up and running as well.
HuK moves across the map with his stalker/immo/colossus army and drewbie's bunkered natural ramp holds without too many losses. HuK retreats with most of his army intact, continuing to warp in stalkers. drewbie attempts some drops at the main and the natural. Main drop neutralized by HuK's waiting stalkers, natural drop not very successful, cleaned up well. Another dropship goes down. Colossi vs. vikings in mid-map, but the colossi escape the the natural alive.
HuK is expanding at his third, after taking down the destructible rocks. drewbie scouts it with vikings and moves up with marines to try and snipe it. HuK holds with a handful of zealots. HuK has a twilight council and templar archives out now. drewbie has his third base behind the rocks secured as well now.
drewbie has the gold expo going up, HuK is moving across mid with stalkers and forces the CC cancel. drewbie has a masssssive viking/MMM force waiting to flank HuK's army. HuK is expanding at the southern gold, and now they are battling. EMPs and storms go down everywhere, drewbie is fighting extended thermal lance colossi from his natural cliff with mass marauders and marines. HuK makes some archons and retreats before losing any colossi. Vikings chase them down and kill a couple, but the battle is still very much undecided. HuK gains a slight edge in the middle and continues to move into drewbie's natural area. Archons and stalkers make use of a force fielded ramp and thin out drewbie's army. drewbie's forces are finished off and he gg's. Moving into game 5, 2 games a piece!
Map 5 is starting now, Scrap Station. HuK is on the top spawn, drewbie on the right. This game is for all the marbles! All I can see so far is that there are no proxy barracks or gateways (yet).
HuK is building a robotics facility and only has 1 gateway up. drewbie appears to be going three barracks to start this one off. HuK is expanding already after the robo finishes making an observer. HuK is also making a second gateway and third!
Robotics bay is being warped in behind HuK's main mineral line, drewbie has expanded at his natural as well. drewbie scans HuK's natural and has troops near the watch tower in the middle. MASSIVE LAG ATTACKS! Both players remark on it and debate pausing, but it clears up.

Third... gateway or perhaps it could be a third expo? That would be just too baller. He'd most likely lose, though.

It is an old version of CS. Its the best version they say.
drewbie broke through the land bridge rocks with a mass of stimmed MM and HuK flanks him at HuK's natural. Force fields and colossi finish off the bio ball but his nexus was destroyed. HuK is moving now for a counter attack with a handful of stalkers and two colossi. Using the observer for spotting, the colossi and sentries are working drewbie's army. SCVs are pulled to help defend but FF's keep HuK alive just outside drewbie's main. More force fields give HuK more and more advantage. HuK is rebuilding his natural nexus and heads back to his main with his injured forces. drewbie gets a few seconds to breathe and does a small drop at HuK's main which is cleared out with no real losses for HuK.

They are actually playing Quake Live which is fairly new.

It is the best version, but just looks so much like any server. Tap tap, burst to the head. Camping in the same exact spots.

drewbie is getting a lot of breathing room now but HuK's colossus count continues to grow. Both players are still on 2 bases. HuK has upgrades rolling from his forge. drewbie tries another small drop at HuK's natural but it's cleaned up quickly as well. Drewbie tries to press the land bridge but several colossi end up causing him to retreat. This could be the deciding battle, HuK's mass stalkers and 4 colossi vs. drewbie's MMM/vikings. HuK's nice force fields make it look like he's winning, but he ends up retreating back to his main once again.
drewbie is trying to build at the normal third location but HuK moves in and forces a cancel. drewbie's viking fleet tries to catch some stray colossi but he is not successful. HuK looks like he is in bulldoze mode as he moves across the land bridge to drewbie's smoke area. Tons of stalkers and colossi/sentries are slowly thinning out drewbie's forces and HuK draws back again. HuK is throwing up a third base at the normal third area.
drewbie may have been given too much room in the mid-game, as he has a ton of marauders, medivacs, and vikings still alive. HuK continues to press into drewbie though, and after he loses all of his ground forces, drewbie gg's. HuK takes third place in the IEM American Championship! Now I have to go charge my laptop, haha.

Anyone know anything about CS? The announcers were saying it might go a long time. Can anyone explain, I'm tired as hell, if this is going to be an hour I'm laying down for a bit.

Again: Sorry for not having a stream for HuK vs. drewbie. While we provided live coverage for basically every other game we couldn't really fit it in today's schedule. Day9 will record VODs for the whole series and release them some time this week. We won't publish the replays until then.
ESL TV's VODs will be released during next week, the final between Fenix and qxc will start after the Counter-Strike final.

This could easily go on for over another hour, if EG wins on Dust2, or Dust2 goes into overtime.

Currently the map just finished 1-0 col..
The system is BO3. This match will probably be 30ish mins at least. If EG wins this map then it will go to map 3 and it will be at least an hour if not more.

They play max rounds 15, so first to 16 points wins. So if they play 1-1 after 2nd map we could be waiting ~60 rounds..

The best competitive games (Brood War, CS1.6, and Quake) all are over 10 years old. Late 90s produced amazing games that didn't cater to the lowest common denominator like most crap today.
If you want to see some SC2 action until CS is over: Tune in to Brat_OK vs. DarK.FoRcE in Go4SC2 Final. Some TvZ action for a change... Score is currently 1:1.
I just do not get why people are still playing Counter Strike. I don't wanna sound like a philistine but why not just play a modern shooter? And who watches people play shooters anyway? It seems like a genre you can be good at just with unthinking muscle memory.

Rooting for Fenix up in here.
Why do people still play BW? Because its gameplay is better.
Ok I'm getting really confused here, people are linking me to channels where the atnDarkforce vs Bratok games are streamed, but they are talking about cs 1.6 and IEM finals.

The other link you are seeing, with Bratok is part of a separate tournament, that some people are watching as we wait for the IEM starcraft finals to begin.

Yeah but a shooter is a little different from an RTS. Once again, I don't want to rag on something other people like just because I'm not interested, but most modern shooters just seem like CS with better graphics. Obviously there are differences, but the basic gameplay is nearly identical. My basic is point is what the fuck is the point in watching people play shooters at all? In SC, there's a large variety of tactics and outcomes, every game is different. To me, every game of CS looks the same. People shoot each other in mildly different ways.
I don't know, maybe that's just me. Probably I'm just frustrated that instead of the SC2 finals, I'm watching a bunch of people standing around pointing guns through little cracks in doors. -.-

Because there hasn't been a good competitive, team-based (or 1v1 based in Quake's case) FPS shooter since the late 90s that could over take either game. The games these days look good but they don't have the depth and gameplay complexity/replayability of said classics. CS:Source for example is a joke because of the terrible engine, the only reason it was played by serious competitions was because tournaments in the US basically forced the players to play it. It wasn't until these organizations failed that Source died and 1.6 took over again.
And for the people that watch shooters, well generally the people that play them and are familiar with them. The top players and teams do things that normal players can't, so that in and of itself is entertainment enough for most people. But for people more knowledgeable of the games, seeing the strategies and tactics used and executed is a pretty big attraction as well (players don't just run around the map mindlessly).

The annoying thing is the stream is doing a poor job to show counter strike at its finest. They are hardly showing fallen and he keeps getting the 3-4 kill rounds.
Is anyone going to be able to post the link which doesn't require the Octoplugin? I was watching on it yesterday, but I can't get the octoplugin to even allow me to play videos.

It's not very exciting to watch someone standing still camping one pixel with an AWP, imo, regardless of how many shots he hits. I'd rather see what the team is doing.

Saying that the gameplay in CS is the same as in most "modern shooters" (whatever that is), is like saying that the gameplay of BW is the same as in other RTS:s because you build units and attack the enemy. Besides, nicer graphics doesn't necessarily mean better graphics when it comes to shooters, in fact all quakeplayers have always tweaked their configs to make graphics worse but more distinct.
But yeah, after ten years of the same maps and 6 (8) years of exactly the same game most tactics are indeed figured out and not much revolutionary stuff is going on anymore.

Fair enough, it is nice to see what the other teams are doing but do that at the start of the round when the play starts to intensify, switch it to the player who has beast mode on.(Fallen) The guy was wrecking that entire match. Also, watching his awp skills truely makes me wanna go in my pants!

If we are lucky complexity wins the pistolround and then sweeps EG 7-0 as T (quite plausible actually), what will probably take less than 10 minutes. If we are unlucky it could go on for another hour or more.
Octoshape is terrible, and terribly invasive. I wish the community would come together in rejecting its use. I wouldn't have any problem with a distributed bandwidth client if it only ran while I was watching the stream, but its ability to run after I'm done and continue to phone home is disturbing to me.

Which non-octoshape stream worked for you? I wasn't able to find one yesterday.
Edited: Oh, oops, is http://tv.esl.eu/de/esltv_stream/stream/55-flv-free octoshape? I don't actually know. Anyway, it's working fine for me today, but not in firefox. I always have to switch to chrome for that stream, it seems.
We will start the SC2 final after the second map of CS, regardless of who wins it. So in worst case the deciding map of CS is only broadcasted via HLTV but SC2 will definitely start soon-ish. Sorry for the delay.
Whoever is interested in the Go4SC2 final: BratOK just won Delta Quadrant and went up 2:1.

Sound like the same kind of person who lauds P2P (if it's for their benefit) then criticizes it (if it is "invasive" to them).

If we are lucky complexity wins the pistolround and then sweeps EG 7-0 as T (quite plausible actually), what will probably take less than 10 minutes. If we are unlucky it could go on for another hour or more.

CT 0:2 T right now

Haha, yeah that retake of stairs was quite the ownage from EG : )
Hey guys I wanted to clear somethings up. There is only one casting area and we planned in advance to have all the finals casted LIVE here in NYC. One of the Quake Live matches ran into overtime which pushed some of the other stuff back and then the first Counterstrike Finals map ran into overtime. SC2 finals will start as soon as Counterstrike is over. It's going to be an epic final and well worth the wait
I don't understand how it can be interesting to watch CS -_- You don't even have a proper observer view. Watching it from everyone's POV one by one is just really silly. Kind of like streaming Gran Turismo or something -.- Sigh. SC please

Nope, I don't have java installed. Edit: Oh, except maybe http://tv.esl.eu/de/esltv_stream/stream/55-flv-free isn't an octoshape stream. I don't actually know any more. It says octoshape at the bottom, and octoshape is running on my computer right now, so I think it is, but I could be wrong.
1. Octoshape stream is working just fine here in Safari and OSX like it usually does 2. I'm pretty sure it won't send any data from your PC after you have closed the page containing the Flash/Octoshape widget (it says it sends data after you've finished watching the video, but I don't think it will continue after the page has been closed)
Not sure how CS is a spectator sport at all. The jumping from each perspective is a bit dizzying.
And it's really hard to tell what is happening with like 3 people dying at once and you don't even see it happen. They need to have an overhead view or something. But that would take away from seeing the "skill" that is involve in killing someone. Boring imo give meee SC
Edit: octoshape working fine in google chrome, make sure its not blocked by windows or by java

The ToS states that they can do that and they can install modified versions of the software remotely without notifying you.

Watching CS without knowing the map would be like watching SC without knowing the units. I've always likened build orders in Starcraft to round strategies in Counter-strike. There's timing involved in slow pushes and fakes that is quite complex.

Ye thats true, watching HLTV is pretty cool. But as great of a game CS is, watching streams like this sucks imho.

I disagree, but I can see how it would be no fun to watch if you don't play a lot of arena. Really that's true of most games other than shooters, not fun to watch if you don't understand them.
if you're new to CS, then the stream is probably really dizzying for you. If you know the map well and the positions the players are playing, then you can follow everything very clearly.
WoW is possibly the dumbest e-sport, in fact in tarnishes the e-sport name by even existing. WoW is an RPG that's masquerading as a competitive game. It's sickening.
I don't really enjoy watching CS but I understand how hard it is to play. I used to play competitive Call of Duty 1, and understand how hard FPS's can be. But they don't even compare to the spectator quality that SC:BW and SC2 have.
to get the stream to work, make sure you install the octoshape plugin and open the stream in IE/chrome, allow the adobe flash player plugin for octoshape and refresh the page. it should work then.

I've been following it for about 6 years. I really enjoy Midway casting (wish he casted for SC2 as well ) so I didn't think it was too bad. CS has been on a downward spiral for a while now and I'll be surprised if it lasts more than ~2 years.
Why is this so different from IEM Cologne? That was much better as it showed the audience. The players. Interviews and we saw some emotion. The production value was much much better :o
First post on teamliquid for me, but I felt compelled because I finally got octoshit plugin to work by following the troubleshooter @ http://www.mlgpro.com/live/purchaseHD I think what finally did it was modifying my hosts file buried in my windows system files which had been previously modified to install certain programs in the name of school work.... I'm assuming I'm not the only one in this situation and it took me forever to figure out the fix for the infuriating "Unable to connect to the Octoshape plug-in" ~ hope this helps those in need
I've heard worse. I like his voice (my gf thinks he sounds gay, literally. haha) He seems a little bit nervous or unsure, not sure if he's commentated something this big before. Remember, he is commentating, not casting. D9 is casting.
Usually IEM events are much better run in my experience from a spectator point-of-view, maybe the Comic-Con venue didn't have the capability to support them well enough, dunno.

The ESL guy explained in yesterday LR thread, that they are in comicon and not in a dedicated room, so they can't setup things as easily if I remember correctly.
I really don't think GunRun deserves to be there; the horrible top-40 countdown voice, combined with no understanding of the game is a deadly combo of ineffectiveness.
WoW would be exciting to watch if the spectator tools and commentators were better. MLG uses horrible, horrible casters who are very unfamiliar with the important players/aspects of matchups and don't convey the tug of war going on in the game at all. It'd be the equivalent of watching a cs stream and having them stare at the scoreboard while focusing on a player who is in B while the T team is taking A. They then start talking about "It looks like [player who just killed 3 people] has a gun. He might shoot." That is MLG level WoW commentary.

I actually find Day9 and GunRun to be an excellent compliment to one another. Day 9 with the exciting play by play and GunRun with the calmer color commentary. Great work to both.

Yeah, i do also think, that they fit quite well together.
QXC's drops are horribly ineffective, they never do the damage that they should do. this works against protoss and zerg, but against terran you should only drop if it is worth it and not like that.

I don't think GunRun is filling the role of color commentator, it seems like he's providing some of the play-by-play, while Day9 is doing part of the play-by-play and all of the color commentary.
the problem i have with gunrun is that whin he gets excited, he gets more intense but starts talking in more hushed tones so his volume is constant no matter what's happening

Yeah, GunRun's commentating today is infinitely better. He just has to shed a couple more bad habits (like the aforementioned "so um... yeah") and he's perfectly fine. Oh, and he needs to have his microphone volume upped a bit, but that's hardly his fault.

Marines seem much more resilient since the tank nerf, and they destroy marauder cost for cost, they keep you much safer from banshee, etc. You can get tons of them in medivacs, it's a great combination

well it´s almost his only unit that needs gas so he is able to build so much of em. He really builds so few tanks i don´t know how he holds the attacks.
Its almost like qxc could've killed fenix's entire army with 6 hellions.

People like you and me know and understand everything Day9's talking about but i think it's good for e-sports to have someone cast at a lower level so everyone knows what's going on. You gotta remember than alot of people who more or less only played campaign are tuning in too.

This is true, but the things he says are pretty much limited to exactly what is going on in front of him, he adds nothing other than to describe what is taking place on the screen, e.g. "and he adds a reactor to the barracks". Anyone can provide this commentary, there is no real entertainment or human layer to his commentary beyond his deep voice which people seem to like.. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't even do this very well and often stumbles over his words.

That said, if taking five minutes to read a thread is "scouring" it--if it makes you this angry--maybe you need to cool off a bit and go do something else with the afternoon. Life is too short to be this up in arms about something so inconsequential.
How am I angry? I don't get this aggression. All I've done is ask for a stream and defended myself from attacks from TLers.
If you're a high level player, everything every commentator would say would sound redundant. So what then, would you want no commentators at all? Its a silly argument. Their job isn't to teach you the game. They're there to provide entertainment, a human layer for the action.
And on that basis, thegunrun could use some work as well. I'm just grateful he hasn't said anything silly or just, completely wrong information, as some other casters do. Or atleast, I haven't heard any yet.

Well, describing what is going on is part of a good commentary. And I guess it's not easy when you're casting with someone who has ton of experience and speaks non stop, telling everything there is to tell

I do think though that explaining the function of building the first supply depot 3 times is a bit over the top...

Dude, he casts like 10 hours per week max. (Asides from extra events obviously) All teachers in the world would be dead if talking that amount was a problem.

Fenix is just harassing all over the place. Banshees, vikings, raven with autoturret. Such a pain for qxc to deal with, losing workers literally left and right.

qxc is the one with the ravens and vikings. Fenix is the one with cloak.
LOL!!! When I see Gunrun talking and gesturing I am sure its a guy talking excitedly in an asian language and some other completely muted guy doing translated dubbing. :p
Congrats Fenix. And qxc for that matter.
Will be following Fenix closely in the future for sure.
Amazing tournament from Fenix, all his games were very high level. I didn't knew him very well, just saw some games from him on iccup, when he beated select. Now I'll follow him closely, he's got a new fan !
I think a lot of the hate is just piling on that you get on internet forums. People tend to want to be part of the majority voice and that's why the hate has continued.
Congrats to Fenix on the win, definitely well deserved. Props to both players, it was an entertaining final and I was really impressed with qxc's play this weekend.
I think the smarter decision would have been for qxc to expand instead of pushing Fenix's front. It was that attack that really let Fenix gain map control

Keep ya head Gunrun glhf
Agree, I think it is pretty obvious that Gunrun does not have that much experience as a commentator, and that is the main reason why things played out the way it did. Personally i am under the impression that he is just really friendly and cheerful, and I would like to see him in the future now that he has an entire tournament under his belt.
Your commentary was good today, and your smooth baritone voice makes it all the better. They should have upped your microphone volume, but that's hardly your fault, is it?
The reason they don't have cameras set up is because they aren't legally allowed to move their cameras around at the venue unlike in Germany, they have to hire the union workers to do it there and it would take too much time & cost them more money than it's worth.

Wow really? Had no idea about that, ty for explanation.

Are you kidding me? Didn't you see that one time Fenix walked in front of the camera by accident? Add to that the time we saw part of Qxc's shoulder.
You appeared a little nervous the first day, which was understandable, but you definitely found your groove the next couple days. Hope you get more opportunities to do some live commentary.
I'm really not a fan of Gunrun- kind of ruined IEM for me . If you're reading this, I appreciate the effort, but please try not adding "yeah, ok. anyway" to the end of every sentence, and summarizing what day9 said right after he said it. Maybe it was nerves from it being your first major live cast (havent listened to GLHF) but it was kind of awkward casting, I think.
And as someone else said, your volume was low, but that probably wasn't your fault.
This is meant as critique, not necessarily hate. I may not be a fan of yours, but you do have fans- just gotta work on your enunciation and get rid of some of those unnecessary words.

This is a horrible excuse.
They could still have a webcam on each of the players, and get them up into the commentators booth for post game interviews.
Esports is not going to grow unless fans have actual faces to cheer for and sponsors aren't going to sponsor players unless they can actually get their logos on TV.

I was merely explaining why they couldn't have cameras on the main stage when the prizes were given, you can blame IEM for the rest.

Blame lolamericas stupid laws that make such cameras illegal.

I think they may have preferred not to have shoddy presentation like using webcams, etc and just forego having player coverage at this particular event, which after all was merely a qualifier for the IEM world championships which will surely have much greater coverage (judging from past events). I'm sure they will have main-stage interviews and such with the players then.

So it's legal for them to show the commentators but illegal to show the players?

pretty standard actually
qxc just splits up his forces to much in the BS game
I wouldn't say it's standard since most of the other terran players haven't really gone for this sort of unit composition because of the danger of losing air control and getting raped by a few vikings. What enabled Fenix to do so was that he built so many marines and was always able to outmaneuver the tanks of his opponents and protect his own tanks from marauder assaults which was again a consequence of his high marine and medivac count.
I think you guys are being way too harsh at IEM. For this sport to evolve you can't expect perfection from day 1 or else you will kill any initiative out there. IEM is moving their league to the US for the first time ever. They have never worked with the IEM employees doing this event, they probably have no experience with Comiccon or their policies. They probably don't have the same budget from their sponsor for this event as they have for their others. Etc etc. Give them a chance to grow this is difficult enough of an industry already.

It's true, but I can't help they've missed the boat big time.
Here's an amazing story of a player who's come all the way from a country where the average yearly salary is 1/3 of the prizemoney offered for this tournament. And we know nothing about him, his backstory, what this win means to him, how happy he is to take the win etc...
This is the kind of thing that gets people interested in something, the human angle, it's the difference between being personally invested in something and seeing a bunch of computer graphics on a screen and is SOOOO important for getting sponsors and spectators.
I hope that we get to learn more about Fenix in March.

No, they are not just there to provide entertainment. They are there to provide information we wouldn't have just by watching the action, such as harvester counts, food counts, production, resources, etc.
The caster also needs to follow the important action, since we can't control the live replay, the caster needs to do it for us, and their partner needs to provide information that is off-screen, such as a simultaneous drop or a 2-pronged attack.
Their role should be similar to NFL commentators. Here's what is happening (caster), and here's what that means (commentator).

Agreed 100%. The guy flies up from Peru to NYC to play in this event, and they can't get him in front of the camera even once? That's utterly terrible.

For people that want a little background on Fenix.
He was a BW player who played PvT, TvP, and TvZ. He got to the round of 8 in the TSL2 before being eliminated 2-3 by runner up Mondragon. He plays for FnaticMSI with Gretorp, KawaiiRice etc.
This is all off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it's correct.

Just to be clear, the person who controls the in-game camera is the observer. Most non-Korean casts give the observer a microphone and have them say some things too. That's not really the most accurate perspective though. Really what happens is that they don't have an observer and they make the guys with the mics do it. Ideally, the guy controlling the camera does not have to say anything at all but can listen so that he can take cues.
