I'm really not a fan of Gunrun- kind of ruined IEM for me . If you're reading this, I appreciate the effort, but please try not adding "yeah, ok. anyway" to the end of every sentence, and summarizing what day9 said right after he said it. Maybe it was nerves from it being your first major live cast (havent listened to GLHF) but it was kind of awkward casting, I think.

And as someone else said, your volume was low, but that probably wasn't your fault.

This is meant as critique, not necessarily hate. I may not be a fan of yours, but you do have fans- just gotta work on your enunciation and get rid of some of those unnecessary words.

That's my opinion, anyway.

This is a horrible excuse.

They could still have a webcam on each of the players, and get them up into the commentators booth for post game interviews.

Esports is not going to grow unless fans have actual faces to cheer for and sponsors aren't going to sponsor players unless they can actually get their logos on TV.

I was merely explaining why they couldn't have cameras on the main stage when the prizes were given, you can blame IEM for the rest.

I think they may have preferred not to have shoddy presentation like using webcams, etc and just forego having player coverage at this particular event, which after all was merely a qualifier for the IEM world championships which will surely have much greater coverage (judging from past events). I'm sure they will have main-stage interviews and such with the players then.

So it's legal for them to show the commentators but illegal to show the players?

That's why the law is stupid i guess ?

Fenix gonna be setting a new trend with the amount of medivacs he makes. I don't know any other terran who does that. It keeps winning him engagements where he seems to be completely outnumbered.

pretty standard actually

qxc just splits up his forces to much in the BS game

I wouldn't say it's standard since most of the other terran players haven't really gone for this sort of unit composition because of the danger of losing air control and getting raped by a few vikings. What enabled Fenix to do so was that he built so many marines and was always able to outmaneuver the tanks of his opponents and protect his own tanks from marauder assaults which was again a consequence of his high marine and medivac count.

I think you guys are being way too harsh at IEM. For this sport to evolve you can't expect perfection from day 1 or else you will kill any initiative out there. IEM is moving their league to the US for the first time ever. They have never worked with the IEM employees doing this event, they probably have no experience with Comiccon or their policies. They probably don't have the same budget from their sponsor for this event as they have for their others. Etc etc. Give them a chance to grow this is difficult enough of an industry already.

It's true, but I can't help they've missed the boat big time.

Here's an amazing story of a player who's come all the way from a country where the average yearly salary is 1/3 of the prizemoney offered for this tournament. And we know nothing about him, his backstory, what this win means to him, how happy he is to take the win etc...

This is the kind of thing that gets people interested in something, the human angle, it's the difference between being personally invested in something and seeing a bunch of computer graphics on a screen and is SOOOO important for getting sponsors and spectators.

I hope that we get to learn more about Fenix in March.

If you're a high level player, everything every commentator would say would sound redundant. So what then, would you want no commentators at all? Its a silly argument. Their job isn't to teach you the game. They're there to provide entertainment, a human layer for the action.

No, they are not just there to provide entertainment. They are there to provide information we wouldn't have just by watching the action, such as harvester counts, food counts, production, resources, etc.

The caster also needs to follow the important action, since we can't control the live replay, the caster needs to do it for us, and their partner needs to provide information that is off-screen, such as a simultaneous drop or a 2-pronged attack.

Their role should be similar to NFL commentators. Here's what is happening (caster), and here's what that means (commentator).

Agreed 100%. The guy flies up from Peru to NYC to play in this event, and they can't get him in front of the camera even once? That's utterly terrible.
