What's the difference between it being live and it being a replay? Please explain it to me...
The only difference is that you can't cheat when it's a replay

If I DVR a football game, even if I keep myself from knowing anything about it, there is an energy missing knowing that the action is in the past. I have no idea if that kick is going in the goal, but it is slightly less exciting nonetheless. The same thing happens for esports as well. A live match is more involving than a replay - for whatever the psychological reason.

A live match is more involving than a replay - for whatever the psychological reason. I know exactly what you mean. But unfortunately we have to take whatever measures necessary to ensure that players cannot cheat over livestream. Until livestream institutes a delay function then this is the best we can do. Somebody brought up a great example being the TLI, and how they used replays to great effect. Also I know you guys are all excited for this Wednesday, but keep in mind that that is simply the start date for matches to begin. Many players are actually planning to play during this weekend. In addition, livestream/vods are not officially scheduled yet. (But they will be soon) I would guesstimate that the first games will be available for public viewing in about a week.

Please explain it to me... The only difference is that you can't cheat when it's a replay It simply loses the magic. I can't imagine having to watch something like the super bowl on even a 5 minute delay. That said, I think a 5 minute delay would quash any stream abusers and would be very appropriate. I guess the only thing missing is a technical way to achieve this. Do you have an overlay to cover up the replay progress bar? The replay progress bar itself is a spoiler Plus it takes up so much extra space on a stream too =[

Rest assured, livestream/vods will not show the replay progress bar. if you go the vod route with a site like youtube, don't forgot about the site's progress bar. i think MLG covered the replay bar in one of the matches, but youtube still showed the total video length so that kind of defeated the purpose of avoiding spoilers D=

I mean for those cases where there's say a best of five and the winner takes it in three wins straight, if there was only three vids posted for that particular matchup you would know after the first game who won it all.

I agree that in the long term, tourneys should be randomized or set to some reasonably impartial seeding system. But I guess since it's an invitational, the game is still in beta, and it's the first big sponsored tourney, a little manufactured hype isn't bad. Also, I hope you guys are going to be shameless about plugging IRip. Think Tasteless mentioning Blizzard every 5 seconds in GOMTV =P
