What's the difference between it being live and it being a replay? Please explain it to me...
The only difference is that you can't cheat when it's a replay Aslong as no1 spoils the result it will indeed be exactly the same.

if it hadnt been for the youtube 10min only grr grr! rule, you could have added a high amount of time 10min+ for black screen in the end of the vod to hide the true length, or even use a random number to realy confuse people
or maybe something like allways uploading say part 1 through 5 even if the game ends in a all in 6pool cheese. in case of cheese you add black screen to get the time to hit about 10 mins. it would end short game spoilers yes?

can't w8 for those games to get under way... gonna be nice to see day9 and tasteless battle it out
on the downside it's a shame tho that there isn't gonna be any live streaming
|
I dont really care about livestreaming, as long as the results arent spoiled. Replay cast actually improves the cast mostly, as it easier to fix problems that would happen during livecasts. I guess the important thing is to focus on the quality of the games, not that there isnt livecast
Worked for TSL2, so cant see why it shouldnt work here, looking forward to some great games !

Thank you very much for hosting this Husky and HD Great names and already a very great game. Love your streams and I hope this will be up to my expectations!

If I DVR a football game, even if I keep myself from knowing anything about it, there is an energy missing knowing that the action is in the past. I have no idea if that kick is going in the goal, but it is slightly less exciting nonetheless.
The same thing happens for esports as well. A live match is more involving than a replay - for whatever the psychological reason. I thought this as well... Up until nony vs idra game 5 of TSL2... That game still had me on the edge of my seat wondering if the all-in was going to work out for nony or not, I pretty much forgot all about it alrdy being played days in advance.
edit: and, incase some forum noobies didnt know, TSL2 had the same system of replays being used for the casts.

I feel like I need to make another post about showing the replays on stream ... seriously I don't understand all this paranoia around some of you. This is not a 500 unknown players tournament ffs! Honestly, how can you imagine players like Day[9], Tasteless, Nony, Nazgul, White-Ra, Artosis, Ret, etc. etc., to open the stream and cheat????? This is very disrespectful to treat them like that.
Please think realistically about it and tell me what is the real chance of these invited players to cheat like that + not to be caught! (and again don't treat them like unknown players who have nothing to lose). Just imagine what would happen to them if they get caught ... it will be the end of their SC2 career ... and they're not idiots to cheat for 1000$ only. Stop acting like if they win this tournament, they will not have to worry about money for the rest of their lives. And even if you cheat there's the risk of still losing the game ... does it worth it?
And for those who say replays = live on stream ... don't lie to yourselves please. I simply can't cheer for a player, or hope he will do something, because the fact that what I see on stream already happened, sticks in my mind and won't let me get hyped for the match. Also remember we all got annoyed that MSL separated Jaedong and Flash from fans, by making them play in a separate room. Well, if you think about it, watching replays as "live" is even worse than that.
So please please don't take away the beauty of a live match just because there's a very small chance a player will cheat. + Show Spoiler +10.000 viewers enjoying a live match >> IdrA being paranoid that Orb will cheat (nothing personal against IdrA, but he's the one who posted earlier: "it is utterly retarded to stream games live").

Hey HD and Husky,
What do you guys think about commentating the game live but only posting it after the game? That way you never know when the game will end and it will be much more exciting for both commentators and viewers.

Hey Husky and HD! you guys are awesome commentators! keep up the good work guys! Esp good to see commentators collab together; even though at different locations; good work!

Although i already thanked you in this thread i have to do it again.
THIS is how consumer want tournament information presented. Everything, every little information is displayed right on the spot. No excuse if you miss something

First matches will really start tomorrow? : )
|
OMFG, Artosis VS TLO and Tasteless vs Day[9]....
Im sad to see that they all had to be on the same side of the brackets >_<
|
So do the casters casting the game also have the replay bar hidden for them? o.0

Also I know you guys are all excited for this Wednesday, but keep in mind that that is simply the start date for matches to begin. Many players are actually planning to play during this weekend. In addition, livestream/vods are not officially scheduled yet. (But they will be soon)
I would guesstimate that the first games will be available for public viewing in about a week.

Ah, soon it all will start.. :D Going to be alot of fun.. :D Great work HD and Husky ^^

TSL was something else. Players took free wins on ladder, which is totally different than map hacking (or watching the game on stream). There is a reason why people like to watch the Champions League Final live on TV, rather than watching it recorded the 2nd day. I hope this doesn't sound weird to you and those who say live=replays if you don't know the result.
Anyway, I hope HD or Husky can give a reply to my post ... there is no real reason for games not to be live, as I described above.

[bolding mine]
Sadly, this is true. Where there is money to be made, efforts must be taken to making cheating less viable.
Note, I am not saying that any of these players would cheat. However, removing the ability to cheat easily means that there is less of a question if someone plays inordinately well or makes a blind choice that pans out.
The honor code is a nice idea, and one that I wish had more traction. But, as IdrA said, it is not viable at this level.

are you serious? ya theyll cheat... but not that much!

Realistically how can you possibly know what a bunch of people you've probably never met will do in any given situation when money is at stake?
As Idra said above, being well known hasn't stopped people from cheating and being dishonourable in the past. Look at all the drug cheats in sports, look at Tiger Woods and what he turned out to be like. People are pretty good at hiding things when they want to be.
I don't think it's being paranoid to eliminate an easy and undetectable form of cheating from a competition given the opportunity.
