I really hope he has professional help organizing and managing it. I really do appreciate all the work he and Husky do, but I am not a fan of the amateur style.
You summed it up right there. I love HD and Husky, I love this tournament, I love starcraft 2 but organizing and managing is not there forte.

It's their first tournament, and it's arguably the biggest tournament to date. Pardon them for not being amazing right away. Give it time.

The only criticism that could be levelled is the lack of a proper schedule but they made it clear in the OP the timings of when the matches would be played.
Complaints about them thanking the sponsor during the casts are fucking ridiculous.
They can thank them all they want, and we all are happy sc2 is getting better price pools, I just said its annoying to liturally hear "thank you super cool irip" every single time there is a nano second of silence.

Yes I do agree it feels the tourney feels like it has been dragged out. Also players who participate in it can't get their prize money for 1-2 months.
But if it was all played within 1 week what am I supposed to do when its all over?
no up and downside
It did feel nice and smart to let players have 1 week for each match. Now It feels slow since theres less and less players near the end.
Keep in mind this tourney was announce 3 weeks before the games were played, So That may be a reason why it feels even longer than it really is.

So where are the updated brackets/replays for this stuff, Whitera vs the Littleone has been played already has it not?
|
The tourney has not been dragged out - one week a round is too long now? See OSL/MSL. I would rather see players having a while to prepare for their next opponent and really have some quality builds in store. With this prize pool it's a lot better than those day-long tournaments where it's just one round after another.

In regards to the quality of the tournament, I have a few things to say ( don't worry, good stuff ).
Although you can tell this is the first time they've done something like this, it's turning out quite well. During the course of this HDH Invitational you can see them adding stuff they initially didn't think of, and the end result will be a good one. This can be reflected well with two things:
1.
Improved promotion of iRip. Initially they did a reasonable job with this, for example the amazing intro and the acknowledgment at the start of the videos. Now they are typing a pre-written message at the start of the game, and Husky ( I believe these videos are uploaded from Husky's perspective ) is even centering this message on screen so everyone can see it ( watched him drop it down from the nexus a few times lol ). Because of this promotion and various other mentions I found myself Google-ing iRip, as I'm sure others have, this is good because it's exactly what the sponsor would want.
2.
Transition to real time streaming. Commenting on the video as it happens so you can make on the spot calls about DC issues, this is a very good thing, and because they are held over the internet it's a must for any legit tournament. Plus it makes it more real for the viewers and no leaked info can get out.
In all I'm happy with the event, however there's also 2 slight concerns I'm sure both HD and Husky are aware of, but I'll post them anyway.
1.
Site Updating. Lol, yeah, no biggy as you can see. But the ro4 player list isn't written yet as it still has player 1, 2, 3 and 4, and the vods aren't added. Not a big deal as we all know how it stands, but it would feel more professional if you had perhaps a designated post updater, as the gaps to be filled wouldn't take too long. I've been in a lot of site updating situations before, and I understand around work and chilling it's tedious to jump on, edit the post correctly and add correct links, spaces where it's due etc. Nothing major, just some feedback.
2.
Different commentating to what the screen depicts. That is, HD or Husky talks about a huge issue before the camera has located it yet, or one of you are talking about something else while the issue on screen is playing. This is merely due to both of you watching the same game, however controlling the screen how each of you want and us the viewers only getting one copy. I know due to the replay / spectator mechanics and different monitor commentating this issue at the moment can barely be improved, and you guys do such a good job of discussing the important bits anyway it's barely an issue, but another pointer nonetheless. Perhaps Husky could have some sleepovers at HD's house and commentate on the same screen, HAH!
I think criticism is good, and nothing is ever perfect. So don't take this as me saying you're not professional enough, as after weighing the facts I think you guys indeed are. It is far greater than what I could put together, and you should be proud to be hosting such a ( so far ) successful event.
Looking forward to Idra + Nony and the finals - although I'll be more excited to watch TLO again, my secret hero.

I don't know how you could say it's been dragged out. The time between matches seems totally fine to me.

This isn't Brood War where a game changing patch could be 7 days away. This is BETA SC2 where at any point Blizzard could change anything they feel that needs to be changed. If SC2 was released and balance had been thoroughly fleshed out I'd have no problems with a tournament lasting YEARS. That isn't the case though.
Now just for example Idra(who I'm no fan of) has what, 3-4 days max to prepare for his match against Nony with the change to roaches? How is that remotely fair or provides the chance for quality builds? Hell next week Blizzard could say they went to far and revert the change. I'm sure others have also been affected in tournaments that have ran longer than 2 weeks in this beta. Time is not your friend in a beta. What would happen if beta ended in the middle of the tourney?
So what can be done? Since HD and Husky prefer doing VOD's anyways, they just have to select the players they want and let them know not to talk about the tourney. Just get the matches done ASAP and get the replays. After the Tourney has a winner then announce the player list and start releasing the VOD's either every 2 days or whenever you want. Point is getting it done as fast as possible, you can release and tease the results however you want.
I like what they're doing and feel they just need to improve upon this aspect of it because patches will continue into release and the possibilities of advantages/disadvantages changing from week to week will always be there. Just get it done ASAP so at least everyone plays with the rules of ONE patch and not three or four.

IdrA vs TLO is going to be EPICCCCCCCCCCc

I think the problem is not the time between matches but maybe im wrong but the matches are like all week/on week days sometimes and i have to keep checking when matches are on .... i wish it was like TSL where matches were on weekends at set times, i cant watch during the week so i catch what i can.

The competitors knew this going into the event, and I'm sure they'd rather an event with the possibility of big patch changes compared to no event at all. It's a bit of fun, and they'll just have to take patch changes as they come.

With the rotches nerf nony' s chances against idra has futher increased in hdh invitaional
|
Every patch that has happened during this tournament is helping nony big time lol. First phoenixes get a huge buff then roaches get nerfed for the 20th time as he's going into his match against IdrA. I'm guessing that they've actually already played their series, kind of funny nonetheless.

Nony has said (along with most top gamers) that the phoenix change didn't alter how/when you would use the phoenix much at all. In fact Nony said it hurt him against zerg because he only went phoenixes when the Zerg was going for Spire. After the change no Zerg goes to Spire, so he doesn't get to use phoenixes as much.

when is the idra and nony game going to be played im been lookin for it but cant find a answer, im guessing this weekend tho?

I didn't say it did alter how or when you would use the phoenix. It still got a massive buff, making it way more powerful in those situations.
If zerg have stopped going spire against protoss because phoenixes are so much more powerful, how is that "hurting him"? The fact that he doesn't get to use them doesn't mean it's detrimental. He's not getting to use them specifically because of the fact that they ARE so much more powerful in those same situations. That means one entire branch of tech and a large portion of strategy is almost totally cut off in that matchup, limiting their other options and making it even easier to counter them. If zerg stop going spire it's not detrimental because he doesn't get to use phoenixes, it just means that things like robo tech will become even more powerful because you don't have to worry about corruptors and mutas picking off colossi etc.
There's no way that a unit getting more powerful is detrimental to the person using it.

Wonder what Idra has plans now that Roaches got nerfed hard.....On the bright side....he has to come up with something knew and who eva plays against him is going to have to expect the unexpected :O....
