I've seen HerO do immortal drops on stream against widow mine drops as a followup to a regular robo opening (because of late stim and all).

If you want to learn a dumb build that totally isn't legit but might just magically work, go for Pigbaby's 2base carrier imo

Just do some fast colossus (as in support bay before forge) and get speed for your prism, then go into a standard midgame. Seems simple enough.

Alej wrote a guide on it a long time ago too. It's pretty outdated, but maybe you can get some ideas:

To be honest, after watching VODs of puCK dropping Colossi on people, I'm thinking that might be the better option. I can't find a build order for doing it in HotS but it shouldn't be too hard to adjust. I just want a fun build that can harass without having to open Dark Templar or the even easier to shut down Oracle...

It's not the build per se, but the style overall. The only major difference between the openings is that Parting goes robo before extra gates, but as it turns out when you do that you can still afford 7-10 stalkers to take map control so it's perfectly fine. He also has a slightly faster warp prism, obs and support bay.

The huge difference between him and Zest is how they play out the game. Zest goes for a 3base allin with 8gates, 50 probes, noupgrades and 3 colossi literally every game he opens blink before robo. Parting can do that (although he prefers to saturate his third base), but he also likes to play longer games off of it and always starts a forge after his third and before his second set of gates. He used basically an identical timing to set up his storm transition vs innovation on deadwing. Also he has at least 4 more midgame builds he can use off the same opener (2 dt builds, blink allin, as well as 2base double forge colo/blink) to mix it up. Zest sometimes does a half arsed 4gate blink pressure but i hate it because imo it's not strong enough to kill people, but the transition is insanely delayed (robo and third base start at like 9 minutes).

I swear i'll have more on this written in a while, be patient

Off 4gate blink yes, Zest's robo starts then. Off blink 3gate robo it starts earlier (main reason why i think it's a much better build tbh)

That's a very different build though. PartinG has also been doing heavier blink pressure, but aparently he goes stalker + msc into a twilight, expands while getting 2 extra gates and chronoing blink, then hits very early with blink and keeps making probes behind it (nonstop I think). In that case, he gets a much later robo when he can afford it as a transition.

Yeah but he hasn't done that build since roughly may/april. He almost always does the light poke/warp prism build now, at least in his last ~20 televised matches.

He did the build I'm talking about very recently in gsl before being eliminated, at the very least once. He also did this build in the season 2, like you've mentioned. Here's the game I saw:

That's a straight up blink all-in, not a committed 3/4gate pressure with colo and 3rd behind it. You can't just call every build the same because it just so happens to get a fast twilight council

Oh that's true, he went up to 6 gates in that game and hit later. My bad. I still think he's done that build recently, but I might be thinking about season 2 games after all, or perhaps he did the same build he did in the vod I posted.

How the fuck do you take a 3rd / defend drops on Kapallena?

I went Blink into Colossus and still got my ass handed to me by marauder/widow mine drops.

Ah thanks.
I was comparing the games of Parting to Zest vs Yoda from IEM Toronto (King Sejong), where Zest played a very similar build. Hence the question.
I agree that the pre-saturation collossus/blink allin is utter crap and a waste of this beautiful opening. And I noticed the flexibility of followups aswell, especially loved the dt gimmick on overgrowth ^_^
Unfortunately I am no where near a point on ladder where I play repeatedly against the same opponents so I cant make that much use of build-disguise.

You can just join a team and play in tournaments. It's way way more fun than ladder

Or you can just go full protoss, give no fucks and make dt's anyway. That works too.

Catallena is kind of a bitch for defending, especially in some positions, but it should still be playable. It just sounds like your positioning and obs coverage good enough.

In PvP my build is a fake 3 stalker 2 gate, with stargate after 1st stalker pushed his scout away. After that I build the additional 2 stalkers and push out to search for proxy pylons.
My consideration now is to go for a 12 gate instead of 13, to gain an additional edge in a phoenix mirror (by starting up the production a bit sooner) and be safer against proxys and warpgate rushes.
Any thoughts about this?

I wouldn't do it.13 gate is perfectly safe against anything, there's no need to go 12 gate for the sake of safety. Also, the differene in when your tech comes up between 12 and 13 gate is really negligible. 12 gate is nice for warpgate timings because 5-10 seconds are a huge deal, but it't not nearly as relevant when it comes to tech timings.

If you want to have an advantage in stargate mirrors, i'd recommend simply going stargate right as the cyber core starts.
