Just an update JaKaTaK , I think I been using TheCore about 20 hours so far? Maybe little more or less, I'd say 75% of that time was vs AI and hotkey trainer.
I thought at first I would never be able to use control groups and now I am able to use about 2 CG for army so far, and I am currently working on 3. I use 1 CG for 3 Nexus, 1 for all Production which I am still struggling with to use tab production.
I have gotten in the habit of using a CG for my Mothership Core and so I can have her follow army or stay home to help with drops. I am able to easily use 3 Cameras for each nexus.
I use a camera for my forge/twilight/robo which I always group closely in main to avoid drops, and I assign the camera button that is same button as my Primary army. So I can hit shift ; chrono and then double tap ; to head back to my army. I never been able to do that before.
Also when pressuring or attacking I will bind my [ to camera for pylon warp ins which is right next to my Production button P.
This allows me to quickly hit Shift [ , P and rapid fire warp in any units, control click rally, double tap army and continue fighting. During combat I can easily chrono upgrades, and production within seconds now, which is awesome.
I am still struggling quite a bit though at all of this when in games and under pressure, I have lost few times because I hit Feedback in stead of Psi Storm lol, and all my Templar got melted. I am still hitting production buildings by mistake but that is less often.
Within just using this setup for 3 hours I could see the benefits of using it, and now after good 20 hours I see it even more. I still have not hit that point yet where I feel like I am better then I used to be, but its rapidly approaching as I push myself more and more.
I would compare this to writing right handed all of your life, then switching to writing left handed and trying to write and essay with a pen. Or throwing a ball right handed, then swapping left and trying to be as accurate, I mean sure you can throw it, but it isnt pretty at first lol.
I am excited to keep working on it, I can't wait until I get to that point of no return where this layout just feels natural instead of feeling like im trying to hard.
thanks again JaKaTaK, for such a great job and support on this amazing layout.

Anyone here with a mac using a Mac with a non mac keyboard who can shed some light on how to elegantly fix this?
I also use KeyRemap4MacBook to rebind the right side modifier keys while sc2 is running. I use control instead of command because command+h will hide the screen during a game
You also might want to look into this to fix the os x default mouse acceleration.

@Lancer Thanks! Good to see you're making progress and having a good time This is a team effort so I extend your thanks to everyone who has and is contributing to this project.

@JaK
I am using the core for about 2-3 weeks now and i love it!
Thanks for the great commitment
I am playing zerg with the medium layout and got used to the camera an still trying to advance my controlgroup control..
the only thing that i dont think is optimal is the link / infestor control groups because i have to use the same finger with those groups. Does anybody have an idea how to group when playing infestor / ling?
Beside that .. what control group would you guys suggest for broodlords?
best, praktu

Somebody please help!
I can hotkey all 10 control groups except group 6( Ctrl+Shift+0). I even went into hotkey settings to reset it but to no avail. I can type both "O" and "zero" but it won't work in the game. I'm starting to like this layout but I can't use a damn hotkey HELP PLEASE!!!
THANKS!

There's an FAQ...But I think this question should be considered a VFAQ. Or a VVVVVVVVVVVVFAQ.

Melee Ranged Mutalisk Baneling Infestor Viper Corruptor Swarm Host
Those are the recommended uses for the hotkeys so it depends on your army comp. If you got no infestor or lings or mutas in your army. Use one of those hotkeys. Do what is most comfortable to you, there is no right or wrong. They are just "suggestions." You need to be able to answers these types of questions on your own in the future because what will happen in two years when LOTV comes out with new units?
Take care my friend.

Is there a changelog for version 1.0? I am interested in the changes, especially concerning the rapid-fire key (if it is still present), as I played up to the version before it was introduced.

I even went out and bought a new keyboard. Its a specific bug with this hotkey setup I think. I switched back to standard and "0" works fine. When I switch back to the core, "zero" doesn't work Can somebody fix this for me please!?!?!?

See my post right after yours! If you still have problems after that, please explain further!

Antylamon thanks so much!
To make this easier on the next person. If you have windows 8 do the steps in his directions and use my tips:
Step 2: Change the view to category or you will not see it. Step 5: The "change language bar hotkeys" is hard to find. Its a blue link.
OK so do what it says above but use my tips. GOOD LUCK! THANKS AGAIN!!

It Is possible with git rather easily, but Github has a limit on showing you the diffs if a lot has changed between the 2 points you choose to compare. If you want to try with github you do the following:
- go to the gihub page: https://github.com/jonnyhweiss/TheCoreConverter
- At the top you will see a field that says xxx commits -> click on it
- scroll down to where you want to start to compare from -> your base version or the version you currently use
- On the right there is a strange number. Hover your mouse over it and select the copy SHA1 button that appears
- Go back to the main page and click on the green button next to branch:master on the top
- click on the box that says base:master and paste in that SHA1 number you copied
- wait and cross you fingers
- on the compare page click on Files Changed
This should be a list of all the changed files and also highlighted in them what changed from the time you selected in the commits page to the current status.
Like I said you might be out of luck since GitHub has a limit on how many changes they show.
If you have git on you machine see here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9702795/large-github-commit-diff-not-shown

For a overlook on all the major changes I made a video:
To answer the short question: Yes, Rapid fire is still integrated into TheCore
|
Been several months since I played SC2, and I'm thinking about picking it up again. I just got the most recent version of the core, and I'm wondering about the reasoning behind the changes to the zerg freecams.
When I last played, we had worked out the smooth finger roll creep cam method, holding ctrl down the entire time and using rapid fire. Both setting and recalling the freecams was ctrl+a key, in order to facilitate this. Setting the cams was on ctrl+I and ctrl+J, and recalling was on ctrl+H and ctrl+O. edit: here's a post about it from the last time I played http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=341878¤tpage=228#4557
in ZRM 1.0, setting is on ctrl+J and ctrl+shift+J, recalling is on ctrl+I and ctrl+shift+I.
I dislike the toggling between ctrl and ctrl+shift, and I'm wondering why this was changed. Did you guys decide spreading creep with the freecams was not optimal (and thus no longer worth moving the camera hotkeys off the homerow for), or am I missing something about the intended usage of these new hotkeys?

Hey JaKaTaK,
Quick question/inquiry.
I been watching ton of GSL and GSTL vods and now they have hotkeys on where you can see all the pro's control groups. I notice that most of the Pro's on the GSL use seperate CG for production buildings. This is how I used to do it also, before trying to learn tab production.
What are you thoughts on this? I always seemed a bit faster using seperate CG for production, still not sure yet if thats better though. Your core is so well thought out, I just figure you have a reason you say tab production is better.

I, though not able to represent JaKaTaK, think the biggest arguments for tabbed production are 1) it frees up control groups for other things (JaKaTaK is a big proponent of using as many control groups as possible) and 2) you can check if all of your buildings are producing with just one button press.

My take on this would be that tabbed production means that you will have more control groups available for your army. So if you want to micro multiple units separately, you can. The downside of this is that you will have to look down at your screen to see what building you tab to, for example 1 - Nexus, 2 - Gateways, 3 - Robo, 4 - Stargate. With this kind of setup I know that I will always be able to press 3 and get my robo. If you have tabbed production, you don't have a consistent number of tabs to get to the robo or stargate since one of them might not exist. In terms of consistency and muscle memory this is a potential problem which is probably why the pro players don't do this.
A last thing to keep in mind is that for Zerg you don't need multiple control groups for production, so tabbed production would technically be more consistent when you play all the races as you would have more army control groups available.

I think you make some valid arguments here. There is something to be said about being in a micro fight, hitting your production and making a Immortal, vs hitting production, tabbing to the correct one. I suppose if you just get used to it, its not quite that bad, but having a key for robo and stargate is nice.
I currently use CG for Nexus, Production, Main Army (zealot/sentry/stalker), High Templar, Flying, Mothership Core, Harrass, and probe (proxy pylons)
I am completely happy with this many CG's for my army, so I guess since I have 2 CG's free I could actually use them for my stargate and robo. But my problem is because I use PRS and I am using a Orbweaver gamepad, not a keyboard I would have to figure out a way to use the last 2 control groups since I currently don't have them available.

Not true- you never need to look at the screen, and you can always get to your robo or stargate with one "tab".
I dunno the priority for Protoss buildings, but for Terran it goes Barracks->Factory->Starport, meaning when you have a CG with all three, pressing the CG selects the barracks, then next subgroup (tab by default) gives you factory, and pressing tab again gives you starports. Pressing tab again loops you back to the barracks.
But, regardless of whether or not you have a factory or barracks in the CG, pressing "previous subgroup" (which is NOT tab- it's shift+tab) gives you the starport, since it's always last in priority. Regardless of whether or not you have a starport, "next subgroup" gives you the factory, since it's second after barracks. The only case where getting to the factory messes up is when you have a factory and starport but no rax, in which case you just press the button.
