In the FAQ, the suggested control groups are P for Nexus/Forge, O for Gate/Star/Robo. Why are there only two CGs for buildings and how am I supposed to build everything with these groups? For example, if I hit O, what if I want to build both an immortal and voidray, since they're bound to the same hotkey? 2. In the suggested control groups, ; is ranged units and 0 is labeled "stalker". Does this mean all stalkers? If so, why are they their own CG? Thanks In TheCore you want to focus on tab production, this frees up more control groups for army and harrass, scouting. Think CG for observers, phoenix, HT, Blink Stalkers, Mothership core. I know at first this might seem totally unrealistic, but start with 1 control group and play games making just zealots with no gas against the AI. Then eventually start to add 1 unit at a time in your ai games and you will start to find it much easier to remember and use the different control groups. Once you nail just Gateways alone in the production key, you can add a robo, or stargate. Then just work on warp ins, tab and queue up a Immortal, then back to army. Once you get the hang of this, add a stargate in and keep practicing your tab production. It will take you a while, I have put in a good 20 hours so far and I am still only using gateway/robo so far vs AI. I still suck and I still mess up, buts I can see progress. Good luck On October 26 2013 04:47 FnaticPink wrote: I am having a hard time integrating camera keys into my hotkey rotation, anything i can do specifically towards this? i didnt use it before so now it seems even harder considering i have to use 2 keys now. I was just like you and all I can say is just find a camera location setup that just makes sense in your head, because having a understanding of why will help you remember where. Like for me 0 - = is my cameras for my 3 nexus bases. But 0 is where I keep them all on hotkey. So I can hit 0 then either 0 - = to get to any of my bases for quick chrono. This just makes sense to me. P is my hotkey for production and L ; is my 2 control groups for my main armies. This way in my head I know I have in 3 rows my army, production, bases. I bound my camera to warp in pylons right next to production so I can easily hit 2 keys back to back to select camera for pylon warp in, select gates to warp in. All I can say is it just takes practice, you have to just make a resolve to do it and stick with it. It will eventually get easier and faster and faster. Good luck I

I'll have a more complete analysis in the future, but that is what I've learned so far ![]() Also, I'm glad you're digging the layout :D I feel like I should mention that I too am digging the layout! I think it's ingeniously done! Been using it since the very beginning, after many half assed attempts to customize my own. Only thing I dislike is that it'll probably become very popular, especially now that TLO and other pros are promoting it, meaning that the advantages I was looking forward to have in having a superior layout is going to diminish =/

I Having different control groups for observers, blink stalkers, etc.. makes sense and that's totally intuitive. What do you mean by tabbed production, though? I don't even know what that is. Could you link me to a thread or something? I guess what I'm really struggling with here is actually using/implementing the core. I have all of the setup down and I've memorized the hotkeys now. I just don't know how to use my setup optimally and put it into practice.

Thanks for the video, it was almost exactly the history lesson I was looking for ![]() ![]() 2. Any other essays you think I should read? I'd be more prominent to read those that discuss functionality, but list away if there are other "good essays." 3. Why does ZRM use both "o" and "i" for building basic buildings? In other words, what buildings would be better built with the secondary key "I"? 4. Do you have a discussion thread that answers questions like these or is it just "ask away" on here? It'd be a long shot to ask for someone to make such a thing, but do you or anyone else have any intention (if it is not made already) of making a list of questions and answers about thecore for commonly asked things? If I had any other questions, I forgot them at the moment, and will get back to you later unless I find the answers elsewhere. But for now, to practice learning thecore some more ![]()

![]() 1. I never ended up writing it. I had a rough outline of what I wanted to write, and Foxy and I went over that as well as other things until we came to an agreement on what was most efficient, then we used that to make TheCore. 2. None that I know of. I always suggest Deliberate Practice - Ericsson as well as The Art of Learning for starcraft players (and people in general). But that has little to do with TheCore and more to do with getting better at starcraft. 3. This is so you can hold down one key and make spines/spores. You can thank TLO and Snute for that one ![]() 4. The OP has most of the basic info covered. We're working on compiling a tips and tricks type section as well. But this is the best place to ask questions (after reading the FAQ) :D

1) Is there a way to search this thread other than the search that searches every forum post on teamliquid? I'd like to make sure my question hasn't already been asked, but don't know how. 2) Any good solutions for casting fungal growth when you have burrowed infestors in a group with non-burrowed infestors? The specific case I'm worried about is when... a) I'm in a battle, and burrow some infestors b) some hotkeyed eggs hatch and now I have a hotkey group of burrowed and unburrowed infestors c) I want to unburrow the infestors to cast a fungal, so I hit my control group and then unburrow. But hitting unburrow doesn't unburrow my infestors, it selects a fungal from one of the unburrowed infestors that's not anywhere near the battle. My only solution so far is to cancel the fungal, cycle the subgroup, then hit unburrow, and hit fungal again. Is there a better solution than this or is there some reason this situation should not be happening to me? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
