Nope this is correct, the key score is lower this way.
EDIT:

I play on a MacBook Pro so I can't use the right side keyboard for playing, also I want to have the ability of playing on any keyboard so I've chosen the Chameleon layout.
#1 I found myself pretty confused just to find the Chameleon SC2Hotkey file, there's no link to it from your presentation, I found it by entering your SkyDrive and then going up one level into the public folder, Chameleon is not into The Core folder.
#2 Is it updated? Do you work on improving the Chameleon too or you're focusing more on the other layouts? As some keys are missing and outdated for older patches, like there's no key for controlling the Oracle.
3# The Chameleon.2.0.1 file doesn't work, only the Chameleon.2.0 works
4# I find it hard to use the control groups since there's no documentation on how to set them and where they are.
5# Is the recommended control group usage of The Core valid for the Chameleon too?
6# Is the Chameleon layout valid for tournaments? I heard that most tournaments don't let you import your SC2Hotkey file, you have to manually set your layout, is this true?
1. Finding Chameleon should be pretty simple from the Chameleon TL Thread, (there's a direct link there). 2. Chameleon hasn't been updated in a while, after we release TheCore 1.0, we'll be working on TheCore Lite which will replace Chameleon. 3. 2.0.1 was an edit by someone in the community, any issues with Chameleon should be posted on the Chameleon thread, I personally won't be investing any more time into that project, but there are still a lot of people who use the layout and may be able to help you. 4. This will be improved with TheCore Lite, for now, you're on your own. I have no time to spend supporting Chameleon. 5. Yes 6. TheCore and Chameleon layouts are tournament legal as well as Blizzard ToS legal. You do not need to import your .SC2Hotkey file for tournaments, you just need to leave it as your active hotkey file and you can use it wherever you log into your account.
Overall Chameleon has served its purpose. TheCore Lite will be a drastic improvement upon it and we'll be working on it as soon as we release 1.0. I will not be spending any more time supporting the layout personally, but your best bet is to post on that thread for support from fellow players.
EDIT2: CALL TO ACTION Okay, so TheCore visualizer is out of date. I have no idea how to update it, but everything is on github:
https://github.com/cushman/thecorevisualizer
At minimum we need to be able to get everything up to date, but if any of you are super savy, perhaps you could help fix some bugs as well. I have tried for months to get in contact with adrian (the guy who created this) with no luck. How's about it, anyone up for the challenge?

Thank you very much for your answer JaKaTak.
I didn't know there there is a whole thread about The Chameleon, thank you a lot. As you explain here my efforts for learning the Chameleon are nullified by the fact that there will be a drastic improved version released soon, for which I'll have to re-learn everything again. Am I correct?
Can I help speed up the development for The Core Lite? I've seen the spreadsheet for The Chameleon 2.0 which already is very different from the SC2Hotkey file I downloaded from your skydrive.
On MacBooks the CAPS LOCK key doesn't work as a camera location key, are you aware of this? Know any way to make it work as an in game usable key?

Right panel, download zip. Put OptiGrid.SC2Hotkeys in your hotkey directory. No capslock bound, because I hate using it. I play random, so there should not be problems with any race. Suggested CG: F - Town halls + upgrades CG D - Army Production/queen CG R - main army E - scout/spellcasters/harrass Have fun.

TheCore 1.0
We've come down to the nitty gritty polishing details of TheCore. With the release of TheCore 1.0 we won't be making any changes (unless there is a bug or emergency issue) to TheCore for at least a month, probably longer. This will allow those players waiting for 1.0 to jump on to have a long period of time to adjust and sink in to TheCore 1.0. We are exactly 2 spreadsheets and 3 videos away from releasing 1.0. I would really like to have an update on the visuals and visualizer as well, but this isn't something we're going to wait for anymore. If anyone has skills for either of these tasks, please PM me so we can talk about the best possible execution of these things.
Upgrades Beedebdoo and I had a long debate about the best possible way to choose keys for upgrades without any solid conclusions. Here are the 2 main ways we thought of.
1. Use the best possible keyscore. Pros: - fastest execution time - possibly easier to learn (only 3 or so keys to learn for all upgrades) Cons: - more error prone (if there are 10 different upgrades on J then it will be easier to get the wrong upgrade and not notice)
2. Use a rules like "upgrading charge is the same key as making a zealot" Pros: - less error prone - possibly easier to learn (more intuitive rules make it easier to remember the keys) Cons: -not the fastest possible keys
It is difficult to tell which of these methods will make TheCore easier/faster to learn (bee and I had different opinions on the matter), which is why I listed it as a pro for both. This leaves us with the following question:
Is it more important for upgrades to be fast to press, or less error prone?

I dont think upgrades need to be fast to press, you only need them once a game... But if you are going for a blink allin and get charge, it can be hard to win

I agree, I would rather go for the less error prone option which for me would possibly make it faster to press anyway because it would remove the split second doubt that I'm pressing the right key.

Hey guys,
First thank you for creating this awesome layout, has been quite fun to use it!
One thing bothers me tho, it's the usage of apostrophe (to build an cc for example). It's not goot reachable imho. What exactly was the reason to do it like this? (newest Version, TRM, german layout)
Also generally my sc2client doesn't seem to like the new hotkeyfiles - it does strange things. Gonna do a more precise error description later, but I think it has to do something with the german layout.
Thank you for your effort dude!

Yea, blizzard fucked with shit in the most recent patch and we might need to fix up some things. Definitely will appreciate a detailed error report thanks.

Just opened up the new 8.1.2 RRM and opened Terran (my main race)
Tank Mode/Deactivate mine on apostrophe Love this one. It's got a great feel. I hate the H button in general for RRM and I like this change.
Cloak/Decloak on K and H Seems perfectly fine on the surface, but I don't like what the ghost looks like now. Snipe on apostrophe just doesn't work for me at all, I feel I gotta have snipe and EMP on I and K, so I changed it up. I settled on snipe on I, cause snipe feels the most spammy and feels good on I, and at a high level of play snipe and EMP are almost equally important, although I may regret moving EMP to K and taking it off the best key. K is still a great key though. Sooo, I created a conflict with cloak(K), I had to move cloak/decloak to H and apostrophe. I like the feel of cloak on apostrophe and decloak on H, I hate pressing H at all, but it works out nicely because I rarely have to decloak my ghost or banshee before they die or cloak runs out, which means i rarely have to press H to decloak. But I feel it might create a conflict in my brain with Deactivate Siege Mode and Deactivate mine on apostrophe along with activate cloak on the same button. But cloak on apostrophe helps with upgrades cause I can make the cloak upgrade at the ghost academy and tech lab apostrophe for added consistency, where if I had made cloak/cloak upgrades H i would create a conflict with SCV Halt building.
Supply Depot - I always make raise depot I and lower J, it helps with remembering since I is the higher button positionally on the keyboard and J is the lower button, I like the feel of it.
Raven - I have to question Seeker Missile not being on I. I imagine auto turret might get more keyclicks in the data - when players make auto turrets, they really spam them all over the place, with them being only 50 energy. But I feel in HotS the Seeker missile is THE Raven spell, its the main spell you use on your ravens, and its the spell you need to be able to click with the least delay in stressful combat situations, so I give it the prime real estate on I. I feel auto turrets are generally cast in low-stress non-combat situations, so I put them on apostrophe, and PDD on K.
Lift/Land building on / - One of the most satisfying and intuitive things to press for some reason, don't think it's new to 8.1.2, but i'm glad it's back from being banished the last few versions.
Anyway just my 2c and I am enjoying the overall direction of the Core and the iterations as we gradually approach hotkey perfection.

@ella snipe and seeker missle are on apostrophe for the rapid fire function. Did you check that out before making your changes?
|
You'll have to explain to me what the rapid fire function is.
edit: looked through a few dozen pages to figure it out myself. doesn't seem like something i would be interested in for playing terran.

i am terran, too, and if you ever used this to call down mules or to snipe, you dont want to miss it any more...

1.0 will come out when the last 3 videos and 2 spreadsheets are finished. We would like to have the visual aides updated as well as TheCore visualizer as well, but we won't wait to release 1.0 because of these 2 things. If there is anyone willing to take a crack at it, it would be immensely helpful.

TheCore visual aides are outdated, it should be a pretty simple process. Let me know if you're interested and need help starting.

The visual aides are very important imo. That's what I use the most to explain TheCore to my friends who are switching. # Which Keys are the homekeys? # Which key is to be pressed with which finger? # Which are the keys for the control groups?
The "cheat sheet" of the Fleetkeys Hotkey System is a nice example (Fleetkeys Visual Aid)
|
@Becuula can you or anyone you know do this for TheCore? We really need cheat sheets.
EDIT:
We decided not to include rapid fire mule in TheCore previously. I am thinking this might have been a mistake.
How do you terran players out there feel about rapid fire mule?
|
First of all: Thanks to you JaK and to all the other guys who supported you by creating this awesome (surly often annoying) stuff for the community. Really great work!

We need some sort of generation mechanism to parse such cheat sheets out of the Hotkey setup files as there are n different spread sheets for all the keyboard layouts and hand size-race setups. So this is not a trivial task but could be exciting. I will think about it and share my thoughts with you guys soon...

Thanks LifeDrain!
I agree that something like this can be done programatically. If we could make it happen from the hotkey files themselves it would be easy to update when a change has occurred, (also it would be less error prone than doing it manually).
I don't know if you've taken a look at TheCore Visualizer yet, but maybe there's something in there that will be useful to you.

Maybe add it as an alternative keybind? So you have a good keyscore for the earlygame and the ability to rapidfire in the lategame.
