Is the idea that you're suppose to press both keys with the thumb at the same time?

The thumb still has to be moved, but there is always a key inbetween so finger repetition is avoided.

One question: do you guys play with health bars "always on" or "damaged"?? I like damaged because it makes the screen a lot less cluttered, but the one downside it I can't see my eggs progress nor my buildings without hovering over it.

TheCore is was and will be 100% tournament legal. Removing keys from the keyboard has been happening since broodwar ![]()

Putting abilities on it while on paper I assume is more efficient, just seems uncomfortable because you constantly have to move it around. I don't know, might just be my personal preference. What about K for gateway and I for Assimilator? why would you put such an important building on k instead of one of the home keys? Why 8 for core and not N? In general, why was N dropped from the layout? Thank you for you time answering all of these, I really appreciate the work you guys are putting into this amazing layout, can't stress this enough ![]()

I changed cancel (F8) to enter. I find that I'm using cancel quite a bit. The most common is when I'm injecting but my queen is less than 25 energy, so I have to cancel that action and come back to it. F8 is so far away that I always have to look at the keyboard or I miss it. I tried putting this on enter (for my thumb) and it was a ton easier. What are you thoughts?

Pretty sure the gateway assimilator swap was an oversight. I'll take another look at it. N is slower on average than 8. We'll have more information on key scores in the future, including how to make your own custom key scores that will match your own hand perfectly. For now, we are going with the same method responsible for all versions of TheCore. @Feng We're putting abilities on the thumb that are not frequently used and not used multiple times in a row. Piano players use the same motion to press keys with the thumb, but you'd be hard pressed to find a piano player that uses his/her thumb 2 notes in a row. The use of the thumb will be nowhere near something like a trackpad. Overall, TheCore has been developed by trail and error. We take our best guess with the information available as to what is most efficient, we try it out, keep the things that work, change the things that don't. This is just another trial, we won't know for sure how well it will work until after we give it an extensive honest run.

Personally I find F8 pretty easy to press. If I want to stop my queens from running around the map if I give a bad order (injecting a hatch that has no queen for instance), I just press hold position instead of cancel.

And you're right, hitting those piano keys used to be a lot easier than these damned trackpads! So give me something to test!

Since TheCore is using the keyboard in unconventional ways (left hand on right side), it is essentially changing standard keyboard into a game controller, the down side being that you need to turn the keyboard and have lots more of it than needed. How does it stack against purpose-built game keyboards, such as this Belkin or Toshiba or Logitech? As a laptop user I already have a separate keyboard for StarCraft, but a dedicated controller would be easer to move around and better at achieving all the efficiency goals that gave birth to TheCore.

Can you clarify what you mean when you say this? I feel like those specialized keyboards could be really great in terms of achieving TheCore's goals, and would be a worthy alternative. Obviously those cost money, though, and each individual one would need its own custom hotkey layout, whereas TheCore offers a layout for anyone with a standard keyboard.

My main issue with thecore atm is that I like typing on messenger and such alot and my keycaps are blank so I need to reposition the keyboard every time so that I can touch type and it's a pain in the ass.
