I'm confused.
What happened with 'K'? Why is one of the most accessible keys not used for abilities? Why would it be used for something as trivial as hold position? And what key is used as "tab" now?
Might have missed the explanation along the way

I think Jak requested not to ask questions about that document . I'll do my best to answer but I could be wrong. First, i believe hold position is used more than ability 3 (for Protoss) according to the data used to develop the core. Second, this would make the three most used abilities all be on different fingers (ring, pinkie, and thumb). I think it isn't that Hold position received more priority than before, it's that ability 2 found a better key: / and Z. Next subgroup (and previous subgroup) will be the mouse buttons. We will have the capacity to easily put one of them on the keyboard if we so desire.

Okay... So as a result of the changes we've made, Protoss, Terran, and Random Layout are going to be the same. The Question is, what do we call it? PRTRM and PRTLM? Stick with Random and have it be RRM and RLM? Anyone have a brilliant idea?

Ahhhhhhh fml, sorry for not checking that!

I've actually been using theCore for months (though I go through spurts of playing a lot and then not playing at all) and never noticed it (never used that control group much except for scouting workers at the start...)! Since it seemed to come out of nowhere, I figured it would be something more annoying and complicated.

What about PTRM and PTLM (take away the random since it is, in a sense, "gone": random players and people who like to play multiple races will happen to play on the P and T layout.)?

4)XLM and XRM ( I mean literally the letter X, for "except Zerg")
5)Some acronym that spells a short word.

Keep the current convention, it will be easier for you to maintain if in the future you make changes to Terran and not Protoss (and vice versa)

Good point, what happens if something in the future requires a change to one but not the other? Then again, that can be (easily?) delt with as it comes, and it is more simple to reduce if possible.

one for each and one for random is more intuitive. You don't want someone reading and thinking you only have a zerg layout or something

Also, I was looking through that document for new changes so I can start learning it asap. I see that on the mothership core, Mass Recall is /. I think that is a mistake as I often hit Mass Recall, then base cam and click, Its a bit hard to go / into shift fast.

In addition, / on unit producing structures is bad as Toss as I often want to warpgate multiple of one unit in by holding shift. I usually go Shift + unit button and then just hold the shift. I understand you can do unit button then hold shift before clicking but it is still kind of awkward.

Also, ' is no longer used for almost anything but build advanced, it was one of my favorite keys! Guess I just gotta get better with my thumb now

Intuitive? Yes, I think having one for each is more intuitive. I also think it is simpler the fewer layouts there are. I spent some time trying to see if Zerg could be absorbed as well . I think individual ones will be easier to maintain though.

Rankith, I do not play Protoss so if this is a stupid question, please tell me: can one not just hold down the unit button and click to warp-in? I agree with what you said about mass recall, it seems to me it would be a benefit to be able to go back to a base quickly.

There isn't anything more to maintain, just have 3 seperate links to the same DL for clarity sake is what I was thinking.

Didn't know that about warpins, so nvm on that one!

Oh sorry, I don't know if it is a thing, it just seems like it should be possible to me. Someone who knows will have to confirm that it works and that it has no disadvantages.
