Or it's a waste of time to go throught the whole series? I am just a gold in HotS and was a low Diamond in WoL so take my advice with a grain of salt (still noob status). I got to low diamond with filters builds and incredible guide, I was practicing for masters and then hots hit. While the general macro concepts absolutely are still viable, I feel that the 1 rax fe is a bit dangerous against toss and zerg. When toss rushes oracle, its so much easier to defend with a widow mine rather than having to be on top of the ball with your marines to shut the oracle down (in the case of filters build 1raxfe). I have had really good success with filter's banshee tvt build, widowmines can be substituted in if needed. I really hope filter makes a guide for hots, as I have just been trying to read and watch as many replays as I can. Demuslim on stream today opened with 9 depot 12 rax 14 scout and 15 gas into 22 factory followed by expand for many of his games. This slight adjustment early on then turns into a similar style of play that filter goes through.

The benchmarks work exactly the same. Most of our MMRs are messed up. I was reasonably high plat facing low diamonds in WoL and I'm currently absolutely stomping silvers/golds in HoTS. So if your MMR has dropped, don't worry, it hasn't. It'll just take time to get back to where you originally wanted to be. Remember the key message of filter's videos. Don't focus on build orders. Just remember your key facts: make scvs, make stuff out of as few buildings as possible early game to maximize your army size and remember to throw in a bit from dapollo's videos about making buildings either before or after you expand depending on what your next move is. As long as you have a nice common pool of buildings, you can do anything you want. I still consider filters benchmarks to be my gold standard and they really do work. I've lost plenty of games through being not aggressive enough or not expanding as I should, but damn it, I've never lost a game due to being outmacroed on anything less than 4 bases. Thanks, Filter!

I'm silver in WOL, and hopefully about to get promoted to gold league. I wonder if the time to watch this videos is really worth it for protoss players at my level. watching the first video will already give you the gist of macro play( ie. build workers nonstop). If you're a toss player theres not much point of watching the rest of them, and besides, Filter is planning on doing HotS tutorials for all three races soon. if you want to wait until he makes the toss ones then i guess just wait, but in the meantime if your desperate check out dApollo's protoss revamped tutorials if you haven't already, they are really helpful

I was a Bronze 1v1, Silver 2v2 player back then, I went through the Bronze/Silver/Gold benchmarks videos and still had difficulties hitting the Silver benchmarks, I didn't manage to hit them 100% of the times and I was far from 50% with the Gold benchmarks. Even if I was stuck on Gold benchmarks, i jumped on ladder and hit Gold league with placement matches, I saw my APM growing from a bad 40 to a decent 80/90, but I still had difficulties vs harass and early pressures ... so i lost more than i won and was demoted to Silver league. My mindset is my real issue, in fact I quit SC2 for about 9 months and came back as HotS was released, ready to give it one more try. After clearing the campaign, FilterSC videos came back to my mind, i watched them again, even if they were made for WoL, but hey, it's macro, macro is still good and it's similar to WoL, so let's go 1rax FE again ![]() I don't know what happened, I immediately hit Bronze benchmarks multiple times in a row, hit 100% of the Silver benchmarks, still struggling on Gold, but it's closer to 100% and when is not, I'm not so far behind (like 2-3 scvs or a bunch of seconds on medivacs/stim) ... so I jumped on ladder, going for my placements again. Went 2-1 in the first 3 games, 1 lost to a good Platinum 4gate which i underestimated, I pulled scvs too late and I lost the bunker almost immediately, then i managed to outmacro a couple of silver/gold players ... and then the turnaround ... I went vs a DIAMOND Terran with 260 average APM at the end of the game, who went proxy factory with widow mines (which i held decently, didn't know well how mines worked, watching the replay I lost so many units 'cause I didn't notice the mines outside my base), then went for cloak banshees. I held, outmacroed and steamrolled him so hard ! Fifth game, i was nervous as fuck, I was vs a MASTER Protoss with 190 APM who harassed me so hard I didn't manage to hit my benchmarks (never played vs Oracle, I had to go for E-Bay earlier to be safe, at least to play more focused) I was nervous and late (like 10 min starport and forgot stimpack) ... I still lost the game, but when I engaged, armies were similar, he just had a couple colossus more than I was able to manage (he was 15 food ahead and 15 workers ahead, due to harass, but he tech-ed and upgraded better), he forcefielded me decently ... I just lost the battle with 2/3 stalkers alive and 2 colossus left on the battlefield, I also GGed too soon, maybe I could have taken a 3rd base and proceed to re-balance the game ... was too nervous ![]() Now I'm high gold, matched vs Platinum ... I'm really looking forward to play some more games ![]() = Paoz =

Would also love more videos focusing on more specifics, like builds or specific situations. filter, one suggestion I have is maybe a video where you play a game and describe your thinking process when scouting or whatever the video's focus is, like you've done in the bronze-silver videos. I know it's hard when playing live but it seems you should be able to pull it off. The scouting video in the original guide had great audio content but I don't think the background replays really added value, especially when you were showing one matchup and talked about a different one. Keep it up man and thank you!

TBH I see in the thread many people who say they nail the Gold and Plat benchmarks but still lose, and there I think is the main drawback in Filter's teaching method. The message that people get from his videos is "Do your build, the opponent doesn't matter much if you nail the benchmarks and you will win" (While the actual message is "Focus mostly on your build, nail the benchmarks and it doesn't matter if you win or lose, this form the base of your future play"). Up to certain level it is true, but after that there is a wall because you play like a robot and fail to react to curveballs the opponent throws your way. I did saw the video that refers to scouting, but it was kinda cramped and convoluted, with Filter talking for 20 minutes while I get nothing. For the next time Filter, try to show examples instead of just talking about them, I know WoL tools were more limited, and now you have an opportunity to use the excellent HotS tools. I prefer Apollo's teaching style, especially his "Learning with Apollo" videos, he put alot more emphasis on "conversation" with the opponent, reading the game, using common sense and making the right decision. On his tutorials he doesn't macro perfectly, but he constantly trying to find what the opponent is doing and making the right decisions. Filter's guides are very good for learning the mechanics in the beginning, but don't expect to reach to Masters with them. I think both Filter's and Apollo's videos compliment each other well, but as standalone it's not the full package.
