At 9minutes into the game - i don't think Z would have enough time to get Infestors AND have enough units to hold this off

8D I'd probably have to build all 3 gateways after the mothership to afford this, but I'll see what I can do.
Surely that doesn't help, though? Getting the mothership there faster means it arrives with less energy and therefore less awesome.

This is a great guide. \0/

4 gate w/ mothership - standard.
wannabecool did something very similar to this earlier on the it's gosu tv stream except he took 2 bases and was only really able to pull it off because he forced a cancel on the hatch and the zerg tried to block his nexus with an evo chamber.
i know this is a troll thread but mothership is actually pretty freaking strong if u can hide it for a minute. but this is kind of hard considering the nexus animation when building one AND the huge lag spike once one actually warps in LOL.
i will def smurf with this build.

i actually do not think this is a troll thread... a mothership with 4 gate at 8:45 can be pretty strong

Well it's definitely more of a fun build than a viable, fuck yeah this is my go to win game strat.
Also, oh yeah cool build I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for posting.

shoulda used vortex on the queen that killed your mothership around 13:10 in the game vs TargA
:D
haha, actually if you'd just attacked it instead of running you would have won that fight ^^

Early motherships against zerg are actually pretty good because of cloaking, you can focus fire his 1 overseer/ 1 spore crawler and clean up.
|
the Q&A is the best part of this thread :D

Cruncher did a strat like this on 6gates (1base) on metalopolis just warping zealot sentry. Pretty cute and definitely fun to execute!

definitely fun strategy. Caught lots of zergs off guard. First time I tries it the timing was pretty bad. But then now I can get mothership out around 9 mins, you gotta leave stalkers around the corner to stop all the overlord from scouting. And early game all the anti air that zerg has is 2-3 queens, so if you can't kill the overseer, just let the mothership do the job, or add 1 single VR and you'll see it's amazingly different story.

This is a pretty interesting strategy. I'll give it a shot next time I'm on. Theres something about the mothership just sends chills when you see your opponent has got one, I guess even more so when it floats over your natural at 10 mins in.

I want to try this in 2's combined with scv mass repair and tank/marine or something along those lines. Can you imagine forward spotting for cloaked tanks with a mothership? With mass repair to heal it if they focus fire?! Using scan for vision takes on a whole new meaning when the other tanks are Cloaked.
Would probably work well with 3 rax --> factory opening for marine/zlot harass/pressure to buy time for MS and tanks.

The hilarious part of this strategy is that early motherships seem to be the only time a mothership can be useful, even though it is supposed to fill the roll of a flying support caster. I've actually faced something like this before and realized that without a spire... motherships are pretty good on their own. I barely won the game because of a base race, but I really shouldn't have won haha.

mothership base armor 2, +2 for guardian shield, with mass repair. Sounds like fun times ^^

If scouted, you can throw down like 3 spores at each base, and 2 spines, then just pump lings, get Lair, and gg.
Not scouted you just flat out die to hilarious mothership shenanigans.
If I saw this I'd probably baneling bust with all my lings (I always get an early bane nest for any SG openings from toss, I detest VRs) and go for a base trade.

The issue with this is something that the player I faced talked with me about at the end: You should recall a probe with the attack and build a pylon in your opponent's base, a cloaked pylon thanks to that mothership.
edit: erm... I guess it's worth noting that the map was scrap, so my opponent recalled the army rather than walk it alllllll the way around, so you could just walk the probe.

you can't base race a 1 base protoss unless you get lucky. FF + ramp + future warpins = LOL
|
Would Vortexing the drones at the main or nat be worth it to cut his economy in half rather than using the vortex on either units or using recall to get past a FF??
|
lol ret just lost to this on stream.
