I lose an scv and a few marines, but suffer no real damage. http://drop.sc/193368 vs 1300 zerg on NA (hes KR tho) Hey Jeffrey! Want to reiterate how awesome you are for continually sharing your TvZ insight. Going to watch your replay as soon as I get the chance. I have been grinding out custom games against Zergs to get an understanding of how to deal with the roach baneling play. Basically what I have found to be pivotal to holding the bust is to keep your early hellions alive at all costs (its not worth to trade any hits vs queens, unless you know you can pop the tumor in 1 or 2 salvos). So when you see roaches rush out from the base (I have only ever seen roaches move forward before lings), you need to: 1. Run back to the nearest tower to get a count on the amount of roaches coming. 2. Circle back around to the first tower to see if lings are coming (if they have speed you can basically conclude its a baneling bust. 3. Immidiately throw down 3 bunkers behind your wall and get some marauders pumping. 4. Try to kite some of the lings or roaches to delay as much as possible (time is on your side) 5. Build at least 3 more supply depots in your main (you will loose the ones up front for sure). Get your second gas, a reactor on factory and a starport. Now you should be able to hold the bust pretty securely with 3 bunkers, and hopefully if you put your ebay in the main like I do your upgrades are still going, and you have the supply depots for constant production during the attack (this is very important IMO). Switch the factory reactor onto the starport, get 2 more barracks, 2 remaining gas and your third planted and just move out and kill his third with your army of +1, combat, stim marines, marauders, hellions, and 2 medivacs (move out when the medivacs are 1/3 done and let them catch up to your army). As long as you position your army well at his third you should be able to kill it, or at least get a really good trade off and kill a lot of creep tumours. After that I get my armory and second ebay, 1 more factory and another rax and just try to secure my third while doing some drops to scout and annoy the zerg and if lucky delay their 4th. After this step I am not really sure of what good timing there could be to move out, perhaps when I have 4+ tanks or maybe when 2-2 is done ( I have too low APM to really think well at the late mid-game stage of the game.)

First attempt at the QXC bunker contain. Worked out quite well, although I was playing lower than my usual MMR because this was a custom game.

You basically need to have a lot of production so you can isntantly start making 6 marauders or 6 vikings at a time when you see him start to tech switch. Marine tank will still be the backbone of your army for the most part, just rinse in marauders as necessary.

I have sort of a wierd question. I started playing sc2 3 months ago and im a TOP 8 gold zerg rite now, after seeing the GSL and GSTL i really really really want to switch to Terran, but my Terran play sucks, i tried playing it for a week, i went from rank 2 to rank 20 in my league.... Should i stop playing Terran? Im pretty confident i can reach platinum next season, easily, if i play zerg. Will it be easier to change races if im in a higher league? or should practise terran in gold itself?? Sorry about the wierd question.. Thanks!

Unfortunately, switching races will always be hard at any level. I think that personally you should play the race you have more fun with, whether you are terran or zerg, even if it makes you worse for a bit, you'll get your skill back in time.

i just looked thru your replay. just some major pointers. ( i tink ur rank is gold and below???, very rarely, i see 3 rax opener for plat and above unless all in) 5min: ur upgrades for con shell and shield were late. since ur emphasis were more on making maruaders, get con shells before shield. you could hav ended the game when he retreats if u hav con shells. 9min: there is no need for you to force ur way up the ramp. he was being super greedy by going double forge on one base and purely defing with mass sentries. just expand and camp at bottom of base. but dun stay there for too long. the first impt rule, NEVER go up a ramp like that, it is pure suicide. u want to engage the protoss army in the open or at ur ramp. 15min: u attacked before stim finishes, another big mistake, just wait and u could have probably killed their entire army. sometimes, it is better to pull back. u were kinda stuck at a place. 20min: upgrade 1 1 is quite unacceptable at this timing. u should be 3 3 by now. ur medivacs were late cuz you went too many rax, tt is fine, but tt means u must hav reasonable control and upgrades to make ur units cost efficient. the protoss army was already 3 3. just rmb. 3 3 gateway against 3 3 mm (without medivacs) you should still win with good control. hope this helps. =)

I read about the Darkgrid and The Core hotkey layouts and it inspiried me to optimize my hotkeys. However I am not willing to change them completely, since I have been using the standard hotkeys since the beta. My control groups are pretty standard with: 123 units 4 cc 5 rax, factory, starport 6 starport 7 ebays 8 armory 9 ghost academy So what I changed was the hotkey for tanks and medivacs to A and I bound the Tab function to spacebar. So now when I want to macro I simply press 5 aaaaaaa spacebar aa spacebar aa and I get a full unit production of marines, tanks and medivacs which are my core units in almost all matchups. This has helped my macro a lot. Especially in TvZ which is so micro intensive and where it is not important switch composition, you just want to make sure you are constantly building those 3 units. However I used to have lift buildings on my spacebar, and I have not found a nice new spot to put it so if you guys have any suggestions that would be appreciated. See I hate having to move my hand so much to press the 5 6 7 to build my army (since i do prefer them on separate keys). I was wondering if anyone remapped them so that I didn't have to move my hand so much and could better utilize the keys closest to my hand. Should i switch to something like The Core? Do any well known Terrans use something similar to it?

I don't find it that hard, as I do something similar. 1 infantry 2 tanks/raven/ghost 3 nuke silos/ghosts 4 rax 5 cc/oc/pf 6 starport 7 fac 90 rax's If I dual prong, I use 1/2 and a follow up army, or army at home will take 3. It's more a matter of finding what YOU like, and not what 'other known top terrans' use.

I heard something about remapping 7, 8, 9 and 0 the F1-F keys, so you can have enough hotkeys available easily to your left hand without having to move it as much. I haven't tried it personally, but it sounds interesting.

Vs Zerg, I like to go Mech, maybe sometimes combined with banshee etc and marines. The biggest problem is.....the stupid banelings...it seems all they do is make banelings as the counter to everything and just a move....then his roaches will clean up the rest.. What do I do vs this many banelings? Even my thors get wiped out...this is not late game, just early/mid game. Should I really make tanks? I dont really like tanks in TvZ... Any mech player want to help? Thanks

I know exactly what you're going through. I initially played Terran when I began playing in December, but then thought about switching to Zerg a time or two in between. I decided to stick with Terran, up to about a month or maybe a little more ago, when I actually started randoming. At the time, I was rank 1 plat (but lost often to diamonds, I'm a bad player ![]() The transition was definitely tough at first. I also took that time to switch to grid hotkeys, and attempt to incorporate location hotkeys more as well, so there was a lot of change going on. At the time, I dropped to pretty low plat, but it's like what the other poster said - just play what you have fun with! If you want to change, go for it and play around with it now. It may only be harder to do later. And don't worry too much about whether you're mid gold, high gold, or plat - the MMR system is trying to put you with people on your level, giving you the best games possible. So even if you drop now, it just lets you practice with less stress. Your skill with Terran may eventually reach what you have with Zerg, and you'll also be having fun. So, if you want, go for it ![]() Sorry for the rant, this was just something that I debated a lot with myself not too long ago, and I thought I'd share my experiences. Good luck!

Thanks You have to build tanks against Banelings or you have to split like a god which only really works if the Baneling numbers aren't out of control and not possible if you fight on creep. . A big army of Banes will kill any Terran groundarmy without tanks unless he runs his Banes into random stuff.

Any mech player want to help? Thanks You can try to kite the banelings with hellions although helllions are weak against banelings cause they make no extra damage. But they make splash damage which make them viable against banelings. Otherwise would be Tanks a good choice. They do a lot of damage against all zerg ground units and with their splash damage they can kill banelings pretty fast. Personally i would prefer tanks, because the hellions need a lot of micro and if the banelings hit once your hellions are gone, because they are light units and take extra damage. The only thing you may have to do with your tanks is to focus fire the banelings but I dont think thats necessary.
