The alternative is to issue a drop command at a location which causes the medivac to move to a location and then begin to unload its cargo. If you don't need to stuff your units into a tight space (e.g., the back of a mineral line), then it is quicker to issue a move-drop so that the medivac can unload enroute to its final destination. (There is also the smaller issue that move-dropping allows the medivac to maintain its forward acceleration so if you are doing quick drop/pick up action, you can swing around the medivac to pick up the dropped units and head to another location instead of waiting it to accelerate after coming to a full stop.)

Alright but how do you do a move-drop command?

(I would like to follow some of their games/replays to study their builds in the different matchups.) 3. Is there a link or replay of TLO playing with protoss? (I have seen him playing Terran and Zerg but never protoss) TLO seems to be the most famous and most successful random player at the moment, although he tends to just pick Terran sometimes. He seems to be on the ropes as to whether to stick with Terran or keep playing Random.

Make sure this command is not queued (i.e,. you pressed 'd' rather than 'shift-d'). The dropship will continue moving on its original path, but it will begin to unload from the point at which you issued the drop command. The same technique applies to all dropship tech (medivacs, warp prisms, and overlords). And it generalizes to queueing up commands as well so that you can queue multiple drops at different locations, in particular, baneling carpet bombing multiple probe lines at once. Psy's youtube video on baneling bombing describes the general technique:

However, that is a rather large amount of marines and is not quickly reproduced, while 10 zerglings can quickly be replaced. It's dependent on the game...if Zerg is teching and is gas starved, then yes. If not, that's a large chunk of units you lost...Mostly no.

Long time lurker, first time poster - I have a question regarding ZvP, when I sac an overlord, I have trouble detecting whether it is a 4-gate or 3-gate stargate play. Often I have been caught with my pants down, so what should I do to prepare (steal gas?)?

If anyone else was wondering, hope it helps.

Often I have been caught with my pants down, so what should I do to prepare (steal gas?)? You want to sac an overlord around the 5 minute mark. During this time, you should be stockpiling larva as well to decide what to do with them after your overlord has made it inside your opponent's base. The 5 minute mark will usually give you the most information about their tech path, whether it's a 4 Gate, Robo or Stargate tech or a DT/Blink rush. It's also a good idea to constantly poke with speedlings to find out the army composition and if he expos. You can learn a lot from seeing where his resources are allocated by his army makeup.

Often I have been caught with my pants down, so what should I do to prepare (steal gas?)? The overlord is only one indicator of what the protoss is doing. You need to rely on other indicators such as + When does the protoss take their second gas? (Consequently stealing the 2nd gas deters stargate but incites 4-gate). + Where is the nexus chrono energy going? On the nexus, gateway, cybercore, or is he simply stockpiling it? + What is the protoss's unit composition? In particular, is the second unit that pops out of the gate a sentry? Is he light on gas units? in order to strengthen your decision making. Mr. Bitter's session with incontrol on 4 gates gives a good overview of what to look for. The same kinds of things incontrol points out are indicators of a 4 gate apply (with appropriate modifications) to scouting stargate play and any other tech in general. http://mrbitter.blip.tv/file/4711503/
