This is correct if you leave the AI to fire the shots. You can override it and have 4 widow mines shoot 1 ultralisk by right clicking the ultralisk.

I average about 50 at the start of the game and end up having around 150-200 more towards the end. Try to work on being more efficient with your APM. Message me if you have questions and maybe I could help you, stream some games as examples and so forth. I don't got much to do this weekend! ![]() Skype: mndakota

Fairly new SC2 player here wanting to learn. Not sure which questions you professionals would call simple (or if there are simple answers due to my noobness) but here goes: 1. I have noticed that professionals use a lot of hot keys and control groups. Is there a "best practice" when using control groups and if so, which control group numbers are best for buildings and which are best for units? 2. I have noticed a stat with SC2 called Actions Per Minute (APM). The highest I have gotten so far is 65, but I have been beaten by players that have over 200 APM. How do players achieve 200 APM? That's it for now...the rest I think I can get on my own. Thanks!

There is no "best practice", you should be able to reach them fast so you dont have to spread your thingers too far. The numbers are just personal preference. It just happens when you get better, especially if you are zerg. If the players you play against are zerg you shouldnt worry about the apm, zerg naturally needs more apm because of injects. Another reason why people have high apm is producing units continously, controlling units, looking for drops/counter-attacks at the same time. Doing multiple aggresions simultaneously is also a big factor. The last important factor is that from a higher level (~master) you also "spam" apm in the beginning to warm up your fingers and train accuracy.

As the other other person said there is no best practice, and it's different for every race. If you play Z then you probably want to learn the "backspace inject" method, but bind backspace to something more comfortable. As a toss player I tend to bind my nexus to 4 and my forges to 4 (4-e is easy to make probes, and when you have different buildings in a control group you can press tab to cycle between them). I bind my MSC to ~, army to 1, important units like stalkers/HT/colos to 2, robo and/or stargate to 3 or 5, and camera hotkeys to f1-f4. Hope this helps. On May 04 2013 07:09 zerokill2006 wrote: 2. You might want to watch an SC2 stream on twitch.tv occasionally to see what it looks like when someone is playing fast to get an idea of how they control units and production, and how they play in general. Hope you stick around, you have a huge learning curve ahead of you so try to keep it fun, don't worry about winning you will always be at 50% win ratio (about). Also this simple question thread is a great place to come to, I learned a ton here when I started. Later on you might want to check the practice partner thread to find someone to play with outside of ladder. And now here are some fun facts!

edit: question 2: Why is it considered bad to make an oracle in PvZ? I usually get a stargate after FFE and I figure I might as well make an oracle, and i usually get 7-10 drone kills with it. Is it just better to have faster phoenix?

I'm trying to figure out what the blink stalker build is, and is this the right build? If so, would this build auto-lose to a DT opener? Or do they get a robo for obs as well? I'm assuming it's a 3-gate blink. edit: question 2: Why is it considered bad to make an oracle in PvZ? I usually get a stargate after FFE and I figure I might as well make an oracle, and i usually get 7-10 drone kills with it. Is it just better to have faster phoenix? Question 1: There are a lot of variations to blink based builds. Some are 4 gate blinks, some are 3 gate blink into robo, it really depends. As for counters and reactions etc, most good players will try to poke and scout a bit before it reaches the time where a super fast DT build would come and kill you. This may come in the form of a hidden probe in or outside the base going into the base, or a 1 zealot 2-3 stalker poke which would be able to infiltrate the base if you cut too many corners. With the new mothership core and hallucination you really should not die straight up to a DT rush very often unless you are very lazy with your scouting. Question 2: It's not bad, but personally I think phoenix and voidray are safer bets. Oracles are somewhat more of a hail mary unit that may win you the game, but phoenix and voidray seem to me as the slightly safer choice. The choice of a more confident player if you will. However many progamers use oracles in PvZ's too, so it's by no means considered bad, or "noob."

1. Siege tank? But then they drop on the tank. 2. Widow mines? But you need 2 mines to kill the medivac which means that you risk killing your own workers since splash from 2 mines is enough to kill lots of workers. 3. Bunker behind minerals? This protects most of the mineral line but no the gas workers. 4. Some other way?

Make mines from your factory and get 1 turret for each mineral line. Run/Split workers as well as kiting hellbats with marauders. It's not easy to defend well and it's even harder to not lose anything. Another thing to watch out for is a 2nd drop for when you send your workers back to mining and they are all clumped up.

Whenever I try to stack my workers, often the ones I stacked end up mining from the far patches after a couple cycles of mining. Why do they unbind, how do I stop this, and am I losing mining time overall?

im not sure if im doing it wrong but when i want to grab gases it usually depends on how much larva i have and if i have enough for say 2 geysers i just rally the drone eggs to the extractors and leave it at that. but this also limits to how many geysers i can grab at one time. so do you players just drone up past 16 on each mineral line to get that extra little mineral boost until you grab your geysers? or would it take too long for that. i usually grab my first geyser pretty early to get speed and than take out from gas and only put them back on gas when speed is done to get lair and once i grab my lair i try to saturate my other 3 geysers before lair is finished but i find that i can only saturate 2 and than i have to wait for another spawn larva to pop, what do you guys think?

So I am brand new to this website. Been playing SC2 since it came out though. I am trying to step up my game and came here looking for help. First off really simple question. How do I post in the strategy forum? I cant find where to create a new thread. Granted I have gotten most of the answers I wanted just by searching the threads. But it would be nice to know how to create a thread. And its bugging me that I cant find it. Second question. I just switched from Terran to Zerg. I really want to learn to play zerg but I am having a hard time. I am high level Gold Terran. I am doing okay on my Macro with Zerg. Lots of room for improvement of course. But I am having a hard time with engagements. It seems like I always come out on bottom. Especially against MMM Terran. Zerg units just die so easily... Thats what I am having the hardest time with. How do Zergs get around this? Not letting the enemy Max out? More aggression and harassment maybe? I guess I just need some general pointers on how to use zerg effectively. I know how to kill zerg... just not how to command them. Anyway I hope this is the right place for this post. If not Im sorry and please have mercy on the newb. I ll learn I promise. Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! There might be a minimum post count or time spent on the forum to create a new thread on the strategy forum. I dunno, but I don't have any problems finding the create new thread button at least. your question nr 2 basically boils down to "how do I play zerg", in which the best I can do is link you to this very nifty guide: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=402758
