What's up with that? I thought they only put you against people in lower leagues if they want to demote you or something.
Did you check the silver guys match history?
I bet your MMR is about mid-high gold and was facing a low level plat player (which is kind of the same as high gold) and a high level silver player (which is about mid gold).
When I play ppl on ladder i usually check their recent 5 1v1 games to check what level Blizzard estimates me as.
Gl on ladder tho

Thank you :3 But what I don't understand is, after those games, they put me up against someone in bronze? And they keep pairing me up with people in silver even though I honestly think I should be placed in platinum. I've won every single game tonight, and I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to get into platinum by beating someone in silver.

Actually you can, and most likely probably will, move into higher league by beating someone of lower MMR than you.
You have to stop thinking about the whole MMR system as quantitative ranks, ie, that someone of rank 25 is better than someone of rank 50, and someone in diamond is better than someone in platinum. What you need to account for is inconsistency: on a bad day a diamond player looks silver quality and on a good day a platinum such as myself can absolutely wreck diamond or master quality players. The MMR system is not concerned about whether you can beat someone of higher rank than you, but whether you can consistently beat a variety of players around your level. Remember that every victory in matchmaking is worth points; victories against weaker opponents are worth less points, and victories against stronger opponents are worth more, but at the end of the day, wins equal +points and losses equal -points. Simple as that.
The other thing is that a few months ago, Blizzard substantially eased the standard deviation of opponent difficulty. That is to say that nowadays the skill range of opponents against which you will be matched is much wider (except at the masters/gm level). As a gold level player, it's now more common to be matched against bronze and diamond players, far outside your own skill level. This, theoretically, exposes you as a player to a more diverse range of skills and strategies, thus forming a more accurate overall picture of your abilities and deficiencies. In theory, anyway.
The point is, beating harder or easier opponents will raise your MMR either way. Beating harder opponents will raise your MMR faster, but not significantly so. If you have a consistently high win rating over your last dozen games or so, your promotion is not far off no matter who the system is matching you against. And ultimately, while beating a bronzie may only yield you a few MMR points, those could be the few points necessary to tip you over into the next league. So yeah, don't focus on who you are being matched against; there is going to be wild variation there, and you have no power over that. Instead just focus on winning consistently, and you will see your promotion before too long.

edit: nvm, was answered better before I got round to actually posting, lol.

My Question: For units that can attack both ground and air, which weapon will they use versus Colossus?
My hypothesis: It depends on the army that the Colossus is with. If it's Immortal/Sentry/Colossus, a thor (for example) will already be using it's ground weapons. But a queen would do more damage if she used her air attack, so what will she default to?
|
99% sure they use the one that deals more damage, but this probably ignores armor. So a thor will use its ground attack, while a queen would use its air attack, and a battlecruiser would use its ground attack.
It has nothing to do with what unit it was attacking previously, or any other units.
I remember reading this somewhere, but I can't find a source to this, sorry!
|
Okay, thanks for the reply! The only reason I assumed that was because most units that have ground and air attacks take a second to transition between the two, right? Like the Thor for example: If it's attacking the ground and then targets an air unit, it has to first aim its guns upward (because its air attack has different graphics). The queen likewise has to "transition" between her spine attack and her melee attack. How long do transitions like this take? Is it a negligible amount of time?

When doing the moving drop trick with medivacs, dropships, warp prisms, and overlords, is it possible to cancel dropping units without having to go off a cliff or something? (I mean pressing drop on the transport itself so you can move and drop @ same time.)

To clarify, since not everyone uses default hotkeys, he means Stop command. Which, if you play grid, is E, not S. Also I think the ESC key works as well for both hotkey setups. Not sure about that, though.

The Thor will always use its ground attack versus Colossus. The air attack will not be used even if the Colossus is outside ground attack range. However, if you target a flying unit near the Colossus, the Colossus will take damage from the air splash of the Thor AA missilies.

When a high templar uses storm, does it have to storm an area on the ground, or can it storm, say, an area beyond the edge of a cliff?

So long as you have range, you may storm anywhere. So no, it doesn't have to be on an area of the map with ground.

I played a ZvZ and a PvZ (I'm random) and I didn't notice, but I wasn't paying attention. Would be amazing if it was true
