Who knows, maybe I will learn many things from BW? What do you guys think? Many ideas in starcraft 2 come from BW. You don't "have to" play it, but I say why not as long as you enjoy it. You would probably appreciate how you don't have to send your workers manually every time, and can select more than 12 units in SC2, which many players today take for granted. I haven't done this myself, but playing 1.vanilla starcraft 2.broodwar 3. SC2 campaigns in this order might be a really fun way to further understand the stroyline that continues into HOTS. I just want to know if there is gonna be anything that I can learn from playing BW. maybe mechanics? Micro? So, what do you suggest? I guess that playing BW will increase your APM as you need more APM just to survive in BW. From there it will improve your mechanics awhen you will switch back because you will be faster, but i would just stick to SC2 and practice from there, but that's my own opinion
You need higher APM to survive in BW but just playing BW doesnt increase your APM, dedicated APM training does. And you might as well train that in sc2 rather than BW. Id say the best you can learn from BW is strategic positioning. Because you can only have 12 units in every group you tend to spread out your army alot more and not just deathball it. This lets you practise multi tasking and combined attacks much better.

Long story short: yesterday I came back from a Starcraft break of one week and I noticed a lot of the streamers (HerO, Illusion, BabyK to name a few) were doing something. They were telling some of the workers with minerals to return the cargo and then shift-commanding them to a spot and then back onto the minerals. Is this just a new fancy trend of showing off/practicing mouse precision/combating boredom OR has someone found out that it actually boosts mining by some wierd coding by Blizzard?

Yeah you missed something, here's the thread on it.
Mineral boost trick (works in 1.5!)

I opened siege expand in TvP as I've been playing mech, but I noticed something that really screwed me over. The guy did a warp prism collosus play much like a reaver drop and it decimated me (as I'd never seen anyone do it before). Why don't people do it, it does so much damage if you're not ready o_O! Do people not do this just because the standard is bio and marines kill the prism too easily?

It's a high risk low reward situation if the terran goes for a bio army. Losing a colossus and a warp prisim (both comming from the robo) will put you a tad behind if you do not deal a lot of economical damage. More over, in the late game, when the terran starts his farm of OC (see taeja's game) killing SCV does not give a really good advantage because they have so much mules...
TLDR : High risk, low reward if playing standard, not workth it late game

In the current ZvP metagame of 3 base zerg vs FFE protoss, many have stressed the importance of keeping an overlord at the protoss natural gas geysers. Can someone tell me what the implications are for different gas timings at that location from 5-8 minutes? Eg, what can/cannot the protoss do if he has x number of geysers at y time?
|
Keep in mind that this is generally not true at lower levels, I've been 7gated with 2 gas taken and I've been stargated with 0 gas. Anyways, here's everything as far as I know: At 6:30: 0 gas at natural: Gateway pressure or all-in. Get a 6:30 roach warren, sac overlord into main ASAP. At 7:30 you need to know to make a lot of roach/ling, or to just make a few roaches and mostly drones. 6+ Gates = mass roach/ling, 4-5 gateways expect some zealot/stalker pressure, be sure to prepare for the follow up (expand or some kind of delayed 7gate. blink stalkers are popular follow up). 1 gas at natural: Stargate or DTs, often an expand, occasionally a 5-6 gate stargate all-in. 2 gas at natural: Tech heavy all-in. Either double stargate or a sentry/immortal all-in, or some gimmicky colossus play. Overlord sac will tell you what to do (mass spores/queen vs double stargate, mass units for sentry/immortal)

Against 8-9 minute protoss gateway timings in ZvP, do you think it's worth investing in ling speed?

I 2 proxy rax vs zerg and he's 6 pooling, what's the correct response?

Although ling speed won't finish in time for initial push, you'll need it. Ling speed will finish during the battle so that you can punish badly positioned protoss units from that point on. Instead, lair can wait until you get enough roaches to hold the push. 150mineral100gas which doesn't do anything to help you defend the push is complete waste. Gas is better spent for 4 more roaches.
I recommend watching these 2 games between MC and Stephano as good examples. Game 1 of this Bo5 is irrelevant to your interest, so these are Game 2 and Game 3 where MC goes early gateway push 2 games in a row.
Game 2 Game 3
Game Spoiler + Show Spoiler + Stephano made a mistake of making lair in Game 2 when he had no reason to. He learnd from his mistake in Game 3, and he made 4 more roaches with the gas he saved which helped him hold the push. Ling speed kicked in during the battle. Theoretically, you can make additional 4 more roaches with 100 extra gas saved from ling speed, but slow lings and roaches alone cannot catch up with stalkers. After 10:00 mark in Game 3, MC falls back a little. Without ling speed, you cannot punish that move. Also, ling speed simply helps surround the units and helps DPS by moving to the next target faster after killing one. I would say always get ling speed for standard ZvP no matter how early the pressure is, just delay lair accordingly.

How do I change the order in which units are dropped from a medivac? I'm trying to marine hellion drop in TvT and the marines always seems to drop out first which gives the other guy time to get his SCVs out of the way before the hellion can do splash. Also when you marine-hellion drop do you drop straight into the mineral line or try to get into the edge of the base undetected?

First in first out, load more specificly to your unloading needs. The second depends alot on the situation, 95% of players will have placed depots all over there base to avoid that.

in a typical late game tvz where i have bio, medivacs, vikings against ling, bane, infestor, broodlord, corruptor should i focus the broodlords or corruptors with the vikings?
|
why isn't mass hydra + overseer contaminate a build that has been explored?

Try and kite with the vikings against the corrupters to bring them back to your marines, but mainly try and take out the broodlords as that's what they're there for.

In the Arcade menu there is a barely visible text box to the top right (beneath your icon and achievement points). Type in the search phrase "unit" and hit enter. Unit Test Map is among the top 3 results. Worked for EU on 18.08.2012.

Thank you, for some reason it wasn't working before even tho i typed there. I guess it needed more time to load or something.

Hi guys, does anybody know if there are the Korean version of unit quotes? In TL wiki pages, it is nice and complete but they are all in English right?
Would be nice to see the Korean quotes, if anybody has them

Can someone explain why this stalker was able to shoot my pylon on the highground with no vision? http://i.imgur.com/agbNb.jpg
Does it just glitch sometimes? There is that weird mid level there. Surely you havn't been able to attack previously visible buildings this whole time and Ive somehow been oblivious to it.
