QUESTION: I'm thinking about setting up a customized hotkey set-up that doesn't involve that usual 1-0 (e.g. nexus on W, main army on Q), but I'm wondering: are customized hotkeys tournament-legal? I recall someone saying on a thread awhile back that customized hotkeys were a no-no in BW, and in every GSL match I've paid attention to, players were using 1-0 for group bindings.

Question: What keyboard keys aren't used in the Zerg race? I've been wanting to find keys to have my 7,8,9, and 0 control groups on closer keys.

Isnt it much easier to use the 'cylce through bases camera' button to do that? Backspace by Default.
I changed it to ~, so now i do, 5 (queens), ~ inject, ~ inject, ~ inject, ect..

Still I just forget to do it later in the game..

If I want to upgrade Broodlords do I upgrade air attack or melee?

In terms of default unit and structure hotkeys:

a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, x, y, z

are all used, leaving

j, k, l, o, w

as available (w is globally bound as the warp gate key).

This only includes the letter keys. In particular, you can move around function keys as the lower set are the useless hero keys by default. In the past I've put 7-0 on F1-F4 and inactive drone to F5.

Broodlord attacks deal damage (affected by air attack) in addition to spawning broodlings that deal additional damage (affected by melee attack).

Keep in mind that BW hotkeys were not customizable through the game interface.

In starcraft 2, virtually all tournaments allow customizable hotkeys through two clauses:

1) Requiring that players use their own battle.net accounts (which comes with whatever hotkey setups are tied to their account), e.g., MLG (http://pro.majorleaguegaming.com/competitions/17#event_36_event_rules)


7. Players must provide their own Battle.net account with an active Starcraft 2 license for the North American (NA) Region.


2) Giving players ample set up time to customize the tournament-provided accounts given to them, e.g., GSL (http://www.gomtv.net/2011gslsponsors3/news/64582)

Cycling through bases has the problem that if you have less queens than hatches or your queens are out of position in the right way, backspace injection causes your queens to wander around the map trying to inject other hatches. When you get into this situation, it can take a bit of time to fix which can disrupt your game flow. This is the queenless hatch problem dementrio's talking about.

There are, of course, ways to mitigate this such as being more careful with your injects or switching to minimap injection when you're in this situation. But it is problematic enough that some people prefer a different injection method altogether.

as zerg i always over drone, last game i had 108, i still won, and had a lot of bases, how can i manage to keep my drone count in check, how do i know when to stop etc?

You can do this by dragging a box over them and counting them at each of your bases.

One trick is to just keep count of how many saturated bases you have. Each 2 vespene geysers uses 6 drones, and each min line at full saturation is 24 drones, or at full effeciency is 16 drones. if you have, say, 2 gases running in the main, 3 expos with full saturation and 2 gasses each, you have 6+24+24+24+6+6+6 = 96 drones, and should stop droning.

I have a question about portraits: Do you have to get all the wins for a portrait in one season? I have 303 wins with 51 of them in custom games and I don't have the 250 win portrait (queen). My other thought is that maybe I won like 2 games offracing drunk some night but I don't think I have. I was wondering if my 200 or so wins in season one don't matter anymore. I know portraits don't really matter but I was kind of excited in game 301 to get the portrait so now I'm disapointed. Is there a way to see how many wins I have with each race?

edit: ANSWERED thanks. i thought i was probably missing something obvious, turns out I was.

They don't have to be in a single season. If you go into your achievements -> quick match and click the relevant achievement you're trying to get you will be able to see a progress bar that tells you exactly how many games you've won as that race.

Is it more cost efficiant to go stalker heavy or zealot heavy vs a terran ball which is marauder heavy? (ignore collosi numbers i just want to know what gateway units)

also should you ever get zealots vs a roach hydra army or just focus on going sentry stalker collosi?
