With three days to go until the beta ends I wanna go on a heroic 200 game run. But, I figure, I should fix the little kinks in my mechanics before doing so. So...Yeah, I've tried searching the threads but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Let me elaborate.
I saw this post somewhere that I can't seem to find. That post was praised as "brilliant" because it showed a really fast way to inject larva. It involved using shift, backspace and v if I remember correctly. What I do atm is group all my queens under one hotkey and I select them and click the hatcheries on my minimap. It feels kinda slow though and sometimes it'll take me a second or two to center it properly.
I know everyone uses what's comfortable for them. But I'd like to hear from people who've tried out all the different ways of injecting larva. What's the fastest and best? Are there pros and cons to each different method? i.e. using backspace seems like it will screw up your micro if you attempt to do that under pressure.
1. Put all queens on 1 hotkey. 2. Select queens. 3. Press Spawn Larvae hotkey. 4. Press Backspace once to center on a hatch. 5. Hold Right Side Shift. (With left hand thumb, do not release at all) 6. Click Left Mouse Button + Backspace (Hit backspace with left hand index\middle finger) <- Repeat this series of actions rapidly. Hitting LMB and Backspace over and over in succession. 7. All hatches are injected.
I've remapped one of my mouse keys to backspace to make this easier to pull off.
i keep all my queens on 4 so i hit 4 -> v -> shift click the hatches on the minimap. it's a lot easier than it sounds, those hatcheries are huge on the minimap. for me, it seems to be the hands down best option, but i'm still fairly new to the game.

I've been using with excellent results. Feels like instant injections.
You can inject larva via the minimap, so if you've got accurate clicking, you can hotkey all your Queens to one group and cast it without having to move the main screen.

Dang! How did you find that? I tried searching for backspace, shift, inject etc. when I searched. Thanks! This is it.
It feels so wrong though, to customize hotkeys like that... I don't know why.
Get a g15 or other macro keyboard and bind a few keys to 55v, 66v, 77v and 88v. Much easier for me to hit G1 click, G2 click, g3 click etc than any of the solutions from non-macro boards.
Of course, you'll get a lot of hate for using a macro keyboard.... but I think mechanics like spawn larva without autocast are stupid and tedious and shouldn't be in a GAME.

Custom hotkeys will be available at launch, so it shouldn't be any problem.
I searched for "larva backspace" and chose to search for content, then it was one of the first results there

The game has already been oversimplified. If its auto in the first place, you might as well remove inject larvae from the queen and just make the hatchery spawn 4 larvae every 30 seconds. For goodness sake, learn how to play the GAME instead. You might as well tell blizzard to warn you whenever you near your supply and have a scv auto build a supply depot for you

Amd how do you remap your townkey to one of the mouse buttons? That was be gorgeous.
Hotkey all hatcheries to separate keys with one key for select all hatcheries that's bound to my mouse (0).
When you need to spawn larvae, double tap the hatchery's hotkey, drag a giant box over the screen selecting the queen/drones/overlord/whatever other units are there, hit V and hit the hatchery. Repeat for each hatchery.
The reason I do this is simple. The select all queens method suffers from the pitfall where if you don't have a queen for every hatchery, you need to think about which ones have queens and which ones don't whereas mine is a mechanical action. Using the hotkey all queens to one key method, I've sent a queen to a base I didn't intend, a mistake which is very easy considering the speed at which you're injecting larvae.
Also, I enjoy the extra larvae control binding separate hatcheries gives. I don't want to select all of my larvae and send drones from my main to my fourth expansion. I want my fourth and third expansions to make those drones. What are you supposed to do, use the minimap to access the hatcheries you want to make drones from? No thanks. What about when your natural is being attacked and you want to make zerglings from your nat while making hydras from your main. Knowing where exactly your units are popping out is worth having separate hotkeys in my opinion.

I did it with the software that came with my mouse(old razer copperhead). But i guess it can be done with any mouse with extra buttons. Probably just have to google something like "mouse button mapping" and you'll find some software that can do it i guess.

When i need to make specific units from a specific hatch, i just hit backspace to get there and make the units. Probably a bit slower than having each hatch on it's own key. But i have problems hitting the keys beyond 6 so it wouldn't really work for me anyway. For the drones i try to keep the drone count even by doing drone transfers. Then it doesn't matter what hatch drones are made from.

This...is just obscene. I managed to remap my mouse as well. This feels soooo wrong, yet sooo right. It's almost IMPOSSIBLE now to miss a larva round.... Jesus.

i have a mx510 or something...it's pretty old, it seems the all keys can be resigned...only found out now -.-.
but i do have a g15 keyboard and i guess i could change one of the macros to backspace...i really don't want to have those logitech software running tho....they tend to add a lot of services/run quiet a bit in the background :/.
I tried the backspace thing, but that key is so akward. I really feel that using a mouse/keyboard with a macro option is cheating because the larva queen combo is in the game to separate the pros from the casuals a little bit more, and if I don't learn how to handle it 'properly' I might aswell just skip playing the game.
On the other hand, I can't seem to customize the hotkeys- what's up with that? Pretty awful! Will it be in by release? I'm using the grid when I play, I think it really is the best- and so I was thinking of hotkeying the baselooking (or whatever) to a key close to my left hand, such a §½, or perhaps even tab (since I never, ever do any tabbing when I play, and it might feel more natural)
If you just want something that for sure works than psy is really good and I'd start off with what he does or else try to get some reps of some good zergs and just copy their hotkeys. As a sidenote I've noticed tlo has some crazy hotkeys as terran. I watched one game where I noticed he had his orbital command on 1, I think factories on 3, rax on 4, and I think units were on 2.
I'm nowhere near as good as psy but in diamond and I've tried every system for injecting and I've found that putting the hatches on 5+ and manually injecting is the fastest and easiest way for me because there are lots of times I need to make a certain unit asap from a certain hatch and it's faster for me to select the hatch and make the units than have to hit tab.
if you have a mouse with 2 thumb buttons hotkey top one to queens and bottom one as backspace then shift clickV press bottom until you are all injected...
I prefer the 55v 66v method compared to all the others. Not only do I find it a lot faster with my finger placement, but it's also a nice reminder of things to do inside your base.
If you have good precision I like minimap injections. Make sure though taht you have a queen near each hatch, otherwise you'll have them wandering around awkwardly.
honestly, i think if i ever had enough hatcheries that i had to use this method instead of doing it manually, i probably couldn't macro from all those larva anyway. Still, clever

I know right? I mean what reason is there to play a game that requires hand movements?

knowing TLO i'm sure there's a reason. 5d6s is what most people use to make a marauder and a tank, but it really isn't that ergonomic, you have to twist your hand out at a weird angle and the pattern on the number row and home row is reversed, whereas if you made it with 3s4d, you can keep your hand off the edge of your keyboard and the progression is more natural, plus it's easier to tab
i actually like that a lot now that i think about it, though i'd have to adjust it since i use my starports more than my facts and i split up my raxes. but i might try that ordering and use 567 for units. i use my macro keys 200x more than my unit control anyway
