No but really^^ I agree. Public vote is the worst. I once submitted a map to a poll and lost to a 1:1 remake of Steppes.

Sick! Good luck to everyone!

I'm confident a panel of knowledgeable judges & progamers who play more than 2 games on the maps will provide enough evidence to support which maps are better than the rest (I say more than 2 games because most of the time players don't really start to delve into the map's features the first few times they play the map and instead just stick to generic 1-2base plays, we see it a lot in MotM tourneys and KW. Hopefully the prize pool for the progamer tournament is big enough to convince the participating players to get some practice games in beforehand so we can see some actual depth in the matches (it really shows when a player knows the map well vs a player who doesn't)

We can only that is indeed the case, instead of judge panel with just djWHEAT, Day[9] and Hot_Bid/other known TL members who have no idea how maps work.

Are you implying that Day9 doesn't know how maps work or are you saying day9 does but we might have known TL members also in the judge pool who don't?
I read it and I thought you were questioning day9's knowledge on maps and all day9 does on day9 dailies is try to look for different strats on maps and analyzes the choices the gamers make in his replay BASED ON THE MAP so I'd be a little perplexed if you're making a statement that day9 has no idea how to analyze the intricacies of a map.

I see what you did there, sneakily bashing my perfect Steppes remake : D
edit: Btw while I don't like Day9 as a caster anymore, I never questioned his ability to analyze maps. If he was a judge this would be extremely awesome!

You do know that Day9 insisted that desert oasis would be on the map pool of MLG even long after it was taken from the ladder map pool, because he thinks the map is so good.

it is a different gameplay, which isn't neccesarily bad, but more difficult to balance. but i think the biggest issues on desert oasis was things like sieging the mains mineral line. not the concept of inwards bases itself

Awesome! Good luck to everyone. Will pay attention to this for sure all though I had no idea this was on.
I also loved the graphics in this post. Absurdly well made

He just liked it because of the awesome games it produced and because it wasn't standard so you had to have very very specific strategies on it.
I believe he wouldn't call it optimal in terms of the actual structure right now.

I wonder if Blizzard had any request regarding maps or if TL has full control over what they pick. For example if 2 player maps have an advantage over 4 player maps since the ladder is full of 4 player maps.
I also wonder if the judges will be told to follow the guidelines in the OP. When you say in the rules "16 base macro maps will have to be fairly amazing to stand out", I fear the judges picks whatever they want, and may pick 10 16 base maps anyways. In motm #9 the OP said it was encouraging creativity but the judges picked conservative maps.

He may not have amazing playing execution anymore, but he has retained almost all of his knowledge from BW, and most of the map concepts in BW still apply in SC2. When I watched hes dailies, the only thing I remember him saying about maps is that he would wish maps would be much tighter than they were back then, or that units should be bigger, because in broodwar so many units could not fit trough a choke as they did not clump up as much. Maybe he also said something about hating destructible rocks. Anyways, being able to analyze how maps work is way different from judgein maps based on how good their are.

Please don't have a public poll have ANYTHING to do with this .
It's been tried in MMA and failed hard
Edit: Also let's be honest 99.99% of the people that browse TL are in now way shape or form qualified to make picks for a contest like this.

I don't know whether I should submit Serpentis or Vallis ... :|
