Battlecraft requires quick thinking, strategy and teamwork to win, much like regular starcraft. I play a fair bit of battlecraft but a majority of games are one sided with new players who get steamrolled.
Just making this thread so people that want a challenge in Battlecraft can find one another. I'd prefer for only C- level or higher to sign up because it is pretty easy to get to C beating new players but if you really want to, go for it.
Post your Name, Character Code, letter rating, and the general level of who you want to be challanged by.
While I'm here I'll put a few tips out there.
Beginner- Aggro is a mode that forces you to build units by spawning powerful units for your enemy if you dont make units before. A few basic 350 unit combos, which you typically spend with 1 or 2 seconds left on the aggro clock - Maraduar + Ghost - Zealot + Archon Sentries are the only units with armour and they have 25 so don't use low damaging attacks against them, ghosts are quite good.
Medium- Slow moving units are generally more powerful but tough to use aggresively. Scourge counter all air units cost effectively except battlecruisers, however they are incredibly weak to high templar, ghosts, and archons.
High (although I'm not the most qualified). I think infestors used aggressively are very good. Anti air hero is good in 2 v 2 as it has infinite range on all air. Post your 350 mineral combos/strategies!
-The patriach, which is built by buying an extra supply and then spending 7 gas, owns.
Anyway -I'm B ranked - TheFinalWord / 227 - Looking for any C or higher rank for an aggro game.

Im at maxed rating.. 1740 (B+).. doesnt seem to go any higher.
as for good "350 mineral combos" it really depends on what your partner does..
too many people have been going the mara+ghost or zlot+archon now.. one set of combo units that I have been using lately easily counters both, but theres obv a weakness to all builds.
too many ppl think it as 2 1v1s going on at the same time.. when in fact what your partner does plays a huge role.. the game is all about counters yes..but also trying to gain advantages by 2v1ing ppl by timing the crossing of your+your partners units in the middle is EVERYTHING.
suiciding your units to save yourself from feeding is probably one of the most useful tips that no one seems to do..

Rating definately gets higher than 1740, I've seen quite a few A's and even an asterisk with is apparantly more than 2100. I was only suggesting those combos for beginners.
A few I use, which I switch up to play psycological games with my opponent include, lurker, banshee, queen + marine, high temp + mule, roach + counter what they build ie stalker or reaper. I've seen a few people pair a normal combo such as marauder ghost with collosi to great effect.
While we're here we might as post our 2000 minerals combos. I use Doomsday monoliths, sentries, collosi, and 3 sets of ghosts with zergling reinforcements.
Here's 2 more tips to last you: - Sadastic assasins are exactly twice as good as ghosts in dps and health but cost more than 3 times as much. - If you find yourself in a 2 v 1 scenario where the enemy resists your initial 2 pronged attack, I've find the best method of sure victory is to have 1 person use defenders advantage to survive while the other builds up a 2k army. If your opponent armagettons it will merely delay the enivatable. If they try and build a coutner army have the defensive ally armagetton their army.

thats odd.. ive been stuck at 1740.. even after multiple wins in a row.

Not to be insulting your intelligence, but are you sure it was aggro (ie rated) mode? I recently got promoted to A- which is 1800 points. Also, note you don't get points for better players of far lower skill.
|
of course it was aggro. -__-
|
Well ok, it was part of the reason I made this thread actually, you don't advance in points unless you beat good players.
|
well its not like im choosing to play bad players.. i play with whomever blizzard sticks me with.. which kinda sux since i rarely meet anyone above a C rating.

Theres competitive battlecraft? I always just thought of it as the ultimate time killer, something to do whilst waiting for a friend to come online. Pretty interesting.

yeah thats basically what it is.

I don't consider it a time killer any more than other games, It's fun, quick and challanging especially against equally matched opponents.
|
How do you actually manage to play enough games to get rated? Seems like whenever I play everyone chooses non-rated mode.
|
Noob here. How to cost efficiently counter archon-collosus combos ???

I really wish they would make a BattleCraft version without all the stupid extra units and modified stats on everything. I play it occasionally to kill some time but it would be so much more enjoyable if everything used actual ingame units instead of altered versions that make most decisions counter-intuitive (e.g Stalkers beat Marauders, Tanks beat Archons).

It would very hard to balance if everything was the same, impossible even. Blizzard balanced the game around the ability to micro therefore battlecraft has to make adjustments.
Archon collosi is countered with tank mule easiest I think, guardians also own it.

I really need the new version on EU Servers. I can't stand the wait. I already tried to ask ppl to upload it, but apparently the creator has to do it and i can't find his/her contact online. Can somebody please tell me how i can help to distribut the map to European Servers?!

battlecraft is an amazing game, i'm one of the real pros. (if you are good you will know HYDROPHELIX) we need more chat on this awesome game

not familiar with Hydrophelix... I've played BC for over 2 years (ah the days of aggro...). My rating is somewhere around 2670 (Triple Sword), but I have a triple crown filed away that I haven't touched in ages since getting it. (you can save the bank files if you really care about your rating... although there's no reason to).
the game without aggro gets really boring at high skill level. just becomes a infestor-> queen -> mule/vindicator game.
@Archon/Colossus question, Mule+Tank would beat it, add a ghost for faster (and zergling protection), add viking if he spends another 300 (takes out col quick). Staggered scourge behind colossus wrecks though.
My "go-to" 1400 send is....
Tank Colossus Viking Scourge Vindicator Ghost Vindicator Mule Scourge Zergling Scourge
Scourge beat defensive vikings. just use them correctly.
Diamondbacks can save you from a side-attack gem.
Hellions, although seen as noob, are the ultimate pro tool to combat vindicators. If they try to stop it, add in the "cleanup crew" (Zergling + Reaper) to protect them.
Mules are OP, they ignore unit collision.
alas.... timing is everything. get used to timing all your units arriving at the combat line together.... strong sending will be the end of you.
|
i have been playing for a couple months, took a break for a bit. i have several triple crown files. ez pz. that send is a bit redundant. i don't know any real benefits to having two vindicators, one can do everything needed. also 3 scourges?? if thats to protect colossus why not send wraiths or something stronger(but still light armored of course!) mules are not really op they are just a distraction, zealots and diamond backs are the same thing but better imo. if you are getting bored of it then play hyper, it's where all the good players hang out and it's actually sometimes challenging. i would change the order of your send too, 1sg3cn1v then add any of the other stuff (i don't think any of it is important other then that) you want the vinds behind something so banes don't get them but not in the back where festors won't hit them
|
you definitely do want a 2nd vindicator behind (1 wont kill 1 infestor let alone 2 - also not counting ghosts). This also counters hellion-counter to save infestors. Stagger sending is how you make them false counter, I generally have a send I want to force them into defending so I can outplay with a quick lurker/hellion/zerg/reaper.... that with a slow moving vindicator already rolling in and a barely still alive vikings/infestors is a forced gem in the making.
scourge are infinitely better than wraiths because numbers are what's important, you want them staggered so the vikings have to focus fire them down (even if they have ghosts its gonna take some time) - its not the light air that saves colossus, its the cheap/fast moving/high numbers scourge that is impossible to defend. If they aren't staggered 1 archon kills em and the colossus die shortly after.
hyper.... meh, played it for a year or so and I can safely say I'm sick of it. the subtle skill level is gone, its just massing sends into big balls of doom that may or may not go your way. Early game can be fun but its last like fucking 30 seconds lol
zealots are vindicators -1, I use them instead of the 2nd vindicator in early game. Diamondback are incredibly situational (if I'm purp, red can't be attacking for example), lose effectiveness as the game goes on (balls of doom are bigger and the DBs melt), and generally have bad collision pathing. Mules+Queens are your wall however and I would never consider DBs a wall unit.
I respect your opinion, but I've played this for a looonng time and can see the rookie in some of those strats.
