Hi guys, I'm pretty new to sc2 and have recently came across this youtube video online where a guy basically is practicing in a custom map where he could test a bunch of zerg units against enemy combatants; trying new tricks, combos, and micro techniques.
for example, testing different ways to counter terran's MMM as a zerg... etc etc
does anyone know how i can set up something like this in game to practice on my own?
like aspecific custom maps to play around and get familiar with zerg units specific custom maps to practice microing the zerg units specific custom maps to train macro? specific custom maps for training/testing builds? etc
That's just Psy playing with the editor. Showing patch changes. There is some zerg macro maps, like queen larvae and creep tumors practice but nothing too great. For some reason terran's have got better training maps x) Try looking using search, I know there is some zerg maps too.
Probably not working on the retail version though.
I'm sure it wouldn't be super difficult to make such a map. I messed around with the editor some in SC1 10 years ago, I'm sure I could make something like this nowadays without much difficulty... nothing too high tech would be necessary. Collect a list of things you would like to be available in the OP, and I will see what I can make happen.
Edit: If you have a reference terran or toss map in mind, please mention it so I can look it up
as for the map, could you make a BIG map and have a zerg base in one corner (like how each match starts in sc2... same amount of starting drones, an overlord, minerals and gas nearby) so that i can practice doing builds... and practice hotkeys and macroing the queens, hacheries, etc.
as well as ALL the different types of units for zerg.. a BIG group of zerglings, roaches, hydras, mutas, ultralisks, infestors, etc etc all the possible untis.... maybe 20 or so per type.. except maybe more for zerglings and banelings. --------
and in another corner, have all the different types of units for protoss, where each group is separated and a distant apart from each other... so that when i do pratice my attack on them. the nearby groups wont all join in.
and same for terrans as well...
this is so that i can practice macro, micro as zerg... and at the same time test different attack variations against the different types of untis from other races. ------------------------------------------------
and if possible, another map where i have the same base and all units for zerg in one corner... and in terran corner, have an MMM group
and for protoss' corner... i will look around and see what's the most common unit compositio that people use a lot..
this is so that i can test attacks on MMM, and other more common enemy GROUPS.
i will research more on this and keep you updated...
but as of now... the first map described above would be more than enough :D
i hope this is not too difficult or time consuming to do :D
Were I to make a map like this I'd want it to be more general use, syrian. Like so you could spawn units either with text commands (believe I saw a qxc map like this) or with clicks or civs god's land style. Maybe both so more common compositions can be done with text commands, while allowing the player to customize his opposition.
Some of the things you mentioned can easily be done vs an easy AI on a large map (hotkey testing).
I will put some more thought into a test map. Maybe see if I can make the AI randomly select a build so you can practice defending against them. But if you want something like this done well, rather than suggesting how to do it, be more specific on what you want to be able to do. Let the map maker use his own knowledge to implement it in the best way possible. If, then, there are features missing you would like, recommend them.
Harley, i guess i will try to brainstorm some more and try to come up with a more detailed outline. but basically, anything will do just as long as it allows the player to try out different zerg units against the various enemy unit compositions.
so that the user could not only get a better understanding of all the units, test what zerg unit composition works best against a certain group of units from Terrans or Protoss. example. MMM.
also, your idea of making the AI randomly select some of the more common Protoss/Terran/Zerg builds so that we can learn to play against them.
@CruS, thanks for the heads up, i just downloaded it and will check it out soon.
@lobo2me, does the unit tester even work for sc2 retail? from the site's comment, it seems like it may only work for beta. =\ does anyone know?
