With the most I agree. But there are many things involved and it depends. In fighting sports the show and the confrontation before is one big part of the business in order to rise the excitement and attention. Whereas in a press conferences during a soccer world championship the reputation might be the more important part and so you see many soccer player answering humble on questions about the team of a other nation. If they insult then on the next morning there might be headlines in the newspapers of this nation causing a bad reputation. According to this it also depends on the country and the culture. Afaik In Japan people are exceedingly more beware of the thoughts and the respect of others. So some martial art fighters overthere talking and thinking different compared to Boxers in the USA right before a fight. In the USA trashtalk for fun is more a part of the society. So the tolerance limit might be higher and people dont feel as fast offended as they would in some other countries. I agree with you that self confidence and high expectations from yourself is the most healthy. But applied towards other people and spectators it depends on the character of the player I guess. Some feel more comfortable when they take a more humble role and so they dont feel any pressure of high expectations from outside. Whereas for the fans this is for sure not that exciting. | ||
