if watching reps in groups, go to a non-ladder server, right? might be a small hassle but higher security is nice

I mean that ladder games are only watchable by two people, because the replay only has two slots (created in one on one mode).

What's the purpose of "higher security"?

I don't care if the other guy MHs, really. I just won't game him again if he finds out. And since I know most of the people I game, I don't get that problem.

It isnt about map hack, it is about abusing for wins, a far larger problem for any ladder.

For a frame of reference, pgt was one on one only.

if it is possible to secure people that can write them, there have been programs in the past that open slots for replays. one on one mode games could be watched by a full house.

as it is, i would still prefer melee mode because a lot of the fun in ladders at the average level is showing off your cool wins to your friends or showing them losses asking for advice. also, what if the players have mannered observers? lessened security but more trust and freedom seems like it would help the ladder overall, since the accumulation of little turnoffs and annoyances are what in the end make many people quit playing, not the game itself. the downside is that (i'm not sure about this, but maybe quite) a bit more stress and need for moderation will be placed on the administrators.

a sensible course of action could be to at first use one-on-one mode until the early stages of hectic organization are sorted out, and then begin to implement melee mode and user conveniences once everything has settled down.

of course if there are massive differences in security and ability to abuse i would vote one-on-one, but i am not aware of any.

One on One mode its better. Why would the fact that you couldn't show a full house your replays make you want melee. And like someone said there is the replay slot maker which would allow it anyway.

melee is nice for obs but i think it would produce too many problems with people accusing others of proobsing
so 1-1 only

It seems like a question of whose convenience is more important: ladder admins (anti-abuse work) or users (showing replays). I can't imagine users refusing to play a ladder because the replays are not socially apt, but I can imagine a ladder's administration having burnout problems, etc, due to a higher workload. My suggestion would be to at least start with 1on1 mode for ease of operation and if everything is going nicely, introduce melee later. If it's not easy to switch between 1on1 and melee, I'd still suggest going with 1on1.

However the best solution would be to bring back slot maker as I think a lot of people have been missing that anyway.

Yeah, can someone please explain clearly the advantage of one on one? In what way can melee be abused that 1v1 can't? Are you saying there would be games with multiple people or something? I'm probably just being stupid and not seeing something obvious.

And what about creating some rules about this - there cannot be any observer in the ladder game, but it can be created like melee or obs version :o))

if you're gonna melee or whatever, just go on bnet servers.

This is why we have replay slot maker.

I don't have a large group of people that I hang out with consistently on SC (like a clan or team or something). I have a select few people on my f l, and consequently I'd be just content on replays that, theoretically speaking, could only hold one slot for reps. I just don't need more slots than one. :|

Having that said, I'd prefer higher security. As was stated before, things like MH and so much really do not bother me... It's more or less the win-hacks that make ladders useless. I don't really know, and because I got into Starcraft competitively much later than most of the other people on this forum, I don't consider myself very educated or experienced in such aspects.

the only thing i didn't like at pgt was the lack of obsing
i mean.. i see my friends play some ladder games and wanted to obs but could not
if you could make that it would be gosu

if its melee, u can just close slots and dont let anyone watch while ur playing...isnt that the same as one vs one mode? this would also solve more than 2 people able to watch reps ?

Hm. Tough call actually. The security is ofcourse a big plus, but I like to be able to watch replays with others as well.

On the One on one mode you can watch it with one more. Besides, I usually watch replays alone anyways. And it worked very well on PGT. I'm kinda arguing against myself here, am I not? Well. I convinced myself. One on One mode it is. Thanks for your input to my dilemma, psychosis, you are very wise.

One on one. Abusing is ever a problem. Yet how many people want to show more than 1 person a good replay? Some. But everyone gets so so pissed at a bit of abusing and a little pitance like only 2 per rep is nothing really. If he's asking for advice usually its only 1 player helping him anyway.

Yeah I'm going to ask that too: Why is one on one more secure as an anti-abuse system as opposed to melee? Is it to prevent obs and therefore obs cheating? If thats the case, the players can simply deny observers, cant they?

In any case, if it turns out that one on one really IS more anti-abuse, then that should obviously be the preferred mode of play. Replay slot maker ftw!
