I see great potential to improve the documentary a bit and get it much more appealing to broader audience which (besides more money from viewer) should be goal of any documentary like that. That's true. I think that some more information about the "player" instead of the person would be nice. At least a tag with the name and race would be nice during the interviews, i know most of them but i can imagine that many people are "who is that again" especialy if it's not someone like TLO or Hero. I am missing a red string, a story, it is missing something to get the interviews in place. And it is missing some facts that people, that are into eSports for a few weeks or months, could reffer to. You are totally right with that. But i was trying to defense it, because there are some comments were people complain that it's not about eSports and only about the team, but well i think the focused was meant to be on the persons and not the game. Yes it could be better, but it is not bad, it is enjoyable if you have enough knowledge, but some people had too high expectations.

My comparison would be the realtalk episode with 2gd gave me a great story in terms of him and what he's done and how esports has changed over time. Here I got some lovely produced episodes and a little of Nazgul's philosophy (which was awesome). Actually the best way to put (my immediate impression) is we got a marketing video which had some moments of real connection. IDK I think it might be some weird expectations by me. One editing question though :+ Show Spoiler + Why the choice to end with TLO's silly blarb about always winning MLG next year rather than Tyler's heartfelt words about the glory of winning? I guess it better fits the spirit of the team?

I felt that this might have worked better as a mini-series, with each episodes focusing on different players on the team. You could have hyped each episodes week in advance. As it is, I felt it was a bit boring after a while. From a technical side of thing, the sound mix level needs some work. The movie also feels a bit too.... "quiet" as a whole. Some music to accompany the more personal interviews might have been good. I also feel you need a LOT more B-rolls to cover the talking head sections. We don't always need to see the people talking to know who it is. The mantra is "Show, don't tell", right? For example, during Tyler's section about his depression, it would have been better to show that he is depressed rather than hearing him talk about it. Of course, this is easier said than done, but the best documentaries all do this well. I felt that you could have push the players more to be more critical of other people in their interview as well. Ask them about their weaknesses. What they wish they could have done better. Then you could mention those contents to the other players and get their reactions. It just makes for more conflict, and would have been no exaggeration on the part of the filmmaker at all. In this regard, I actually felt Huk was your best interview subject. I also think it would have benefit from a more swift editing as well. Just an honest opinion from a film editor. Hope it helps.

The storyteller in me wishes that the story of how TL got to be TL was given a bit more explanation-- in the beginning there is that awesome animation with a bunch of facts like "TL goes inactive" and "TL adds Player X" and it all goes by so fast that I wanted to slow it down a bit there: Why did TL go inactive? Why did TL add player X? How did all of this actually happen? I suspect, however, that the story I wanted was in fact not the story of Team Liquid, but the story of Nazgul. There were some good interviews with Nazgul in the movie, but I think the world could use a whole documentary just about Nazgul and how he made TL happen. Both the website AND the team. How did this all happen, how did this become a thing that exists in the world? You'd have to interview all sorts of people, like the guys who started Justin.tv/Twitch, some people from Korea to talk about how the Korean scene happened and why, and then add a walkthrough of a day in the life of Nazgul. What does he do and how does he do it? That would also make a good movie, so if TL is thinking about a followup project, maybe they could consider this.

I much prefer this, it's a lot more grounded without being sensationalist. I think there were some unreasonable expectations for this from what I'm reading. To the first, not at all, to the last, yeah, it was probably the hype all around. It's documentary, it's meant to be objective team portrait, there is no need for drama and I don't think anyone expected it, just more detailed inside info to highlight the player's personalities. For this length and number of players (I guess I didn't expect there are actually so many TL players now ![]() The best thing about this doc is definitely the "pay what you want" model. I'm big supporter of free culture (specifically donationware), indie developers/artists/etc., direct payment without greedy distributors and paying after you consumed the product based on how you liked it. This should really be standard. If for anything, I'll pay for this approach. Also knowing where the money goes helps a lot and you can decide better thanks to that too.
