I felt that this might have worked better as a mini-series, with each episodes focusing on different players on the team. You could have hyped each episodes week in advance. As it is, I felt it was a bit boring after a while.
From a technical side of thing, the sound mix level needs some work. The movie also feels a bit too.... "quiet" as a whole. Some music to accompany the more personal interviews might have been good.
I also feel you need a LOT more B-rolls to cover the talking head sections. We don't always need to see the people talking to know who it is. The mantra is "Show, don't tell", right? For example, during Tyler's section about his depression, it would have been better to show that he is depressed rather than hearing him talk about it. Of course, this is easier said than done, but the best documentaries all do this well.
I felt that you could have push the players more to be more critical of other people in their interview as well. Ask them about their weaknesses. What they wish they could have done better. Then you could mention those contents to the other players and get their reactions. It just makes for more conflict, and would have been no exaggeration on the part of the filmmaker at all. In this regard, I actually felt Huk was your best interview subject.
I also think it would have benefit from a more swift editing as well.
Just an honest opinion from a film editor. Hope it helps.
^this! Even though I am not a filmmaker, even I asked myself at some point: Do we ALWAYS have to see the talking person's face?

It was pretty good, I think the part about Jinro was the best. I felt like i learned more about him then i knew before the other parts were okay. I agree on that it might have been better as a mini series instead of a full movie, I would have enjoyed a few more stories or about themselves.

I really appreciate this, it was an amazing experience and insight about the players.
It was above average as a documentary, it was more personal that it should have been, in a way.
Made me want to play again, so, see you in the ladder.
Damn TLO made me laugh more than I should have. And Hero could impregnate me without me having a uterus.

This Video is great. Thanks a lot. The lanst sentence of TLO was actually the best. It made me laugh.

Understanding the concept has nothing to do with it. I understand it wasn't there intention to make a narrative but rather for it to be an introspection of the players and stuff. I just felt that it dragged because of this and as a whole it sorely missed some in game action and some general tournament 'play with the player' moments.
Thinking about it now, they should have really put parts of replays in it. Some easy examples would have been when each player was talking about themselves you could get them to describe there play style and then show examples. Another crucial moment where this would have been key was when jinro did well at GSL, show the actually games, the winning moments and parts of the games where he did well and perhaps where he could give insight into his play etc

Hmm...does anyone have the music credits? In the film they just thank some names for the music, but the song during Haypro's intro is from something that I know very well and I wanted to find out who did it and where it came from...

I wish there'd be more of the players just joking around with each other and other pros. But yeah it was still really good. Some of the stories about like Jinro slapping hotbid or basically everything that TLO or Day9 said was hilarious. Like that story about Day9 mailing Dario some sand... omg that's funny.
On a related note: as someone who paid $10 or more for the documentary, how do I claim my poster(s)?

Haha the ending with Dario was so epic... "I could always win MLG next year..." made me laugh :D.

And now just win everything pls

I'm only 30 minutes in but been watching for two hours now. Kinda hard to get through it, when you look up every player and tournament that gets screentime/mentioned on liquipedia.

Amazing video. Like, wow! I think HerO is my new favorite pro. That guy just seems so driven to me, inspirational.
As someone who has not played a lot of Starcraft or done much in the scene since beta and early release, this was a great way to get updated on the players in Team Liquid. Awesome stuff.
|
I felt it was abit too much fluff... Too much talk about how a certain player had talent and could become the best in the world. I would have been happier to hear more personal stuff about the players rather than "he can become the greatest".
Either way, it was a really good documentary imo.

Wait, so a documentary that's been sold as a "TL documentary," not a "eSports documentary," is being shit on because it focuses on TeamLiquid, not eSports? Really?
This community...people need to learn to read. That'd solve so many problems.
Great documentary! As for those wanting a single thread...I think the team itself is the thread. I'll agree that some of the best player evaluations came from HuK. His statements on, say, TLO were a great contrast against what literally everyone had said up to that point in the film.

Hey!
I was just wondering if it would be possible for you guys to host this video on another website that's eligible in China? Because it would be sad if the support from the people currently living in China isn't rewarded. Anyways, just a small request! I could wait until I'm back in Sweden otherwise, just that it will take 5 weeks.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL the ending
tlo is a pimp
amazing documentary

I realized this wasn't what I was hoping for. As an active TL stalker I can say that I didn't learn much from this documentary. I would have liked to see more behind the scenes stuff. But I understand the decision of making the documentary like this.
I thought the intro was epic, though. Appreciate the effort put into the whole thing. And I agree with the comment about not always showing people when they are talking.

Hmm really odd, but it won't seem to take my debit card. Not sure why. Didn't NASL use paypal? I used this same card to get a pass there.

The point of the documentary was not to talk about StarCraft but to talk about the players. It was made to allow fans to connect with the players on a new level and to show the behind the scenes.
