If you get private coaching it should be stated before the game starts. Let's say I am scum and I know I am playing against these 10 people. I would be quite upset if on of these 10 people have somebody I don't know about telling them info about me I do not know about. Maybe a tell or maybe my behaviour or w.e. I agree that discussing it in the thread is a total no-no. Imagine Townplayer X saying "oh guys, I have been talking with these 4 vets here and they all agree with me that this guy is scum, they all said this is the lynch of justice. Please follow my advice." Is such bs to play against as scum. On the other hand as scum, what can you do? If you are scum you are forced to lie and say "Oh I have been getting some town coaching from marv during this game and he says this and this and this". Makes it pretty unfair for dem scummers imo. Because nobody has extensive coaching on how to fake scumhunt as scum. So it is a towntell to have a private teacher.

Even in the model OP there is a place in which you list the coaches of the game. If you want to get coached then let the players know and put it in the appropriate place in the OP. Calling cheating private coaching is just wow.

In the "4-vet wagon' example players have lost the opportunity to question the vets to confirm or challenge their reads, which is a large part of the game.

Obviously it's impossible to tell i people play fair or not and if they discuss reads with people who are not in the game or not. Usually it doesn't matter. But the point should not be if it matters or not. If i post my role PM straight quoted from inbox in thread when 10/11 people think i am town already is it "not a big deal" because "it didn't matter"? That kind of thinking is just retarded imo.

The way things are dealt here is basically "stop whining, it didn't matter" and it's so stupid i don't want to play anymore because of it. For example the DarthPunk fake cop claim in Titanic III. Yes, it didn't matter. But what if we were in LYLO and DP has a fuckton more towncredit than Hopeless who was the actual cop? Then it would have mattered. I am not even sure if people realize how big of a deal that can possibly be. Or the gumshoe thing; It's funny that Steveling is not whining about it here now because his team won. In game it was a big deal for him. He called ME unreasonable, claimed scum and said he will not play with me again. Yeah it was not me who was cheap. But hey it's not a big deal because his team won. I think you guys should try handling these things reasonably and not just say "it was not a big deal because nothing bad happened". I felt really bad for geript a while ago when he tried to get people treated equally regarding rule violations. Somehow he was the bad guy everyone stared bashing. Unbelieveable. But yeah, that's it for me. Soon enough you have everyone talking shit about each other and more people quiting. Think about it.... /peace

If everyone on TL Mafia always acted like a saint, no rules would ever be broken, no one would ever even mention a game being played outside of the thread, everyone would treat each other with complete respect and the banlist would be unnecessary. If everyone on TL Mafia always acted like a complete dick, being a dick would cease to mean anything. Problem is, like most people, we're somewhere in the middle. Regarding Foolishness/Toadesstern, I agree with the people who say he broke the line by invoking Foolishness' name. However I hope people stay reasonable when discussing games. A lot of us are friends outside of the games and thus we talk, but please don't actively go try to solve a game with someone not playing. If you want that, announce to the thread that you will be coached/shadowed by a player, and get it approved by the host. Regarding Marv/Rayn, I really think it's a bit iffy when Marv has access to the obsQT. But again, to me the main thing is to what extent where they discussing reads. If they were actively trying to solve the game as a team it's over the line. If rayn shot marv a single post and said "hey I'm not sure if this means x or y" then it's much less of an issue. But I don't want to encourage out of thread communication like that, so let's please just try to not do it. Regarding Rayn's ban, he took two modkills and acted like an idiot, but he also has a long history here of playing games where he's an enjoyable part of the game, so I'd think a permaban is over the top. Rayn is absolutely right that we should not consider incidents with regards to their outcome in the end btw.

I do not think that rayn has any desire (at the moment) to continue playing here until/unless the issues he has brought up are addressed and some level of governance is put in place to ensure that similar transgressions do not occur in the future. At present, those issues are things that I will attempt to simplify: 1) Out-of-game bargaining using items such as one's life (i.e. "I Swear On My Life...etc") 2) Out-of-game hydra/communication with players not actively playing (e.g. reading the thread with a friend and discussing reads) If I have missed anything as it pertains to the situation with rayn, please feel free to correct me.

So I think it's cheating, or at least it's ruining the integrity of the game.

Please not, having to sit out games when you get back into the mood of playing is enough, and he's an enrichment to the forums being probably the most active player under those circumstances: Player Count By Year 2008 203 2009 134 2010 249 2011 284 2012 419 2013 315 2014 80 Also, since Rayn and Marv are both two very experienced players, they are very likely to come to the same (or very similar) conclusions and it probably does not have much of an effect on the game itself. And even if their reads are completely different, Rayn is usually so confident about his reads that he would probably just disregard Marv and do his own thing. If Marv were sending it to someone like me, who has no clue what they are doing, I would be more likely to simply act as Marv's puppet and do whatever he "advises" me to. So the thought of permabanning Rayn, the most active player and one of the best TL Mafia has ever seen, is ridiculously stupid. Edit: To the "Rayn broke the TL Commandments", they don't apply here. If they did, there would be like 5 players left on this forum.
